Mikeler's Multis

So why do you think I should not go as low as you?

you certainly can. since we both play stock (comparing the MGPP to PST) maybe checking TW's power level tool might be helpful in determining tension.

FWIW - have another MGPP strung at 47/50 with B5E/Dunlop Comfort Poly and the power is too high.

using k blade tour. have yonex super pro tour at 54 lbs. feels too tight. got some mantis comfort. what tension would you suggest (I'm guessing upper40s/50?)?

Uvijek Argen

Mantis recommends stringing above 58.

And G&G tennis recommend for B5E to string starting from 42. Funny that you have the eye in this string in the same time as me. I'm planning to do a full job at 45#'s and see from there.

Have very little left from the MT reel and since my arm got better( or so so) I change the set up from MT/Big Ace to Big Ace/MT. Since MT/Big Ace last me exactly 3 days (2hours of hitting each day) every single time.

Later in the next weeks I will send you a msg to see if we can hit somewhere around where you live since I work very close in the southwest area (Dr. Phillips).

think Bob strung his Black Ace 98 with B5E hybrid at 51/54 and it works for him at that tension. he looks to hit somewhat flat (not a top spin hitter).

I never play with synthetic guts or multis but my normal tension on poly is 57.5/56.5 lbs. Should I try ALU Power @ 50/Mantis @ 56.5?
Lol...I really like Pro Hurricane. I used Pro Hurricane Tour in my old racquet but it was terrible in my new one so I tried the white one and it worked great. Tension maintenance is the only major downside for me :(

Hmm.... Not sure. Haven't gotten to play with it yet.

I usually string polys around 54 or 53 in my MG PP. But this time I'm dropping to 50 since I tend to sting multis/gut around 56.

Tried hurricane in my PDR. Just never felt good t me...

Polystar energy.

Got to say, just tried it full bed alongside full bed of scorpion and the energy feels unlike any poly... So soft like butter with great poly playability and spin. Oh did I mention I strung both at 43 lbs in 18x20. Scorpion was pretty soft too but the energy is amazing. May just buy a reel and go. Awesome awesome is all I can say-- spin, flat, touch, power, control-- nothing missing, comfy like nylon

I've only bounced balls off a racket with those strings but it did not feel like poly at all.

Turbotwist has no multi in it. It is a monofilament poly.

According to Guts and Glory Tennis and by my personal experience, TT is a poly that behaves like a multi, to the point that it is recommended to string it with the tension given to a multi.:)

I just got a half set of weisscannon black5 edge (B5E) from a fellow TTWer and local Bad_Call in yet another string for beer trade. I think I'll put it in the mains with MCS crosses this weekend. Thinking of going with B5E in the mains at 54# and MCS in the crosses at #58.

Let us know how it goes!:)

Go lower. While B5E is soft, many who review it are stringing high 40s, low 50s (even bad_call I thought said he does his 49/52?)

According to Guts and Glory Tennis, who sell and know this string pretty well, low forties is recommended but as a full set. As a hybrid, I suppose somewhat higher, upper 40s.:)

I thought u had arm issues? If so, why would u use a poly in the mains?
just wondering.....

p.s. I have a pack of B5E that I haven't tried yet. I like a gut/copoly hybrid and I am afraid the sharp edges of B5E will cut into the nat gut.

If you have a user friendly racket, B5E as a hybrid is very soft and shouldnt cause problems.:)

As a follow up comment, I am using Babolat Revenge (main) and gut as a cross. With Yonex VCore 100, it feels very smooth and comfortable. This is, I think, due to the racket shock absorption, as Revenge is not the softest poly supposedly.

So, my point is, if you hybrid with an arm friendly racket, it could work out.:)

I have B5E as main with gut crosses in another racket, the Babolat Aeroprodrive Gt. It does not feel as comfortable as the Revenge/gut in the Yonex Vcore. Again, the racket is a factor.

Possibly B5E/gut should feel great in the Yonex; the same should apply to
B5E/ multi.:)

Exactly. Best part is that it plays like a poly, I had no arm twinges with it during the match, and I was swinging full speed. Spin was brutal, and control was solid. Last night, no post-match pain and this morning, none at all.

Only thing will be to see how long it lasts (as tension hold is one of its common negatives on here), and then this time I really mean it (lol, heard this one before), I may have found my string... I played so comfortably, confidently and solidly with it I'm feeling why change a good thing with more experiments? I hope it plays well for a couple more matches, at that pricepoint, I'll be happy.

The guy I know who plays with it says he gets about 7 or 8 sets until breakage. I'd rather have a string break on me than make the decision to cut it out. Are you using 16g or 17g?

Quoted for truth. Scorpion is one of the softest co-polys out there (my favourite for now) but Energy feels like it's in another league. Crazyyyyyy soft, great string.

1.20 17g. I feel the same way. Especially on poly, I'd rather have one that plays great for 6-8 hours then breaks; rather than worry about whether its dead, about dead, or killing my arm because it's been in too long.

Even if it lasts 4-5 hours, the cost of the reel will justify that longevity for home stringer like me.

OK, here is my review in the TW format of the Babolat Addiction 16.

So I strung up Babolat Addiction last weekend. It's a see through string and anytime I've used those, I get ghosting. This was no exception. It looks to have a lot of multifilaments in it. The coating feels stiff so we'll see how it plays. Gave it Ye Olde Ball Bounce test and it feels crisp like a solid core string. I think this one has more potential than the Yonex, but we'll see.

Tension it is strung: 60 pounds on a lockout machine full bed
Your regular string set up: Mantis Comfort Synthetic 60 pounds full bed
String pattern of your racquet: 16 x 20
Power (or lack there of): Medium/High powered multi
Feel: Average feel
Tension maintenance: Held fine so far
Price: $10.95
Overall comments and feedback: See below

General: The first few hits I could tell this string was very crisp and fairly powerful. I was concerned that control would be an issue but I was mostly able to harness the power.

Serve/Return of Serve: My serve was off last night until I lowered my ball toss. The extra pop on this string helps on the first serve. My second serve was getting some nice bite with the string too. My chip returns were not very good at all but when I just took a crack at the return, the ball seemed to go where I wanted it to.

Strokes: Lots of spin on both wings. My opponent commented after our match that my shots were heavy and giving him trouble. The conditions helped with the spin being about 85 degrees with no humidity. Depth control was effortless with the extra power on my shots. I did not feel like I had to change my strokes to harness the power. I did not hit very many balls in the service box unless I was going for a sharp angle

Volleys: I did not get to hit too many volleys in my match, but the ones I hit found the mark. It just seems very solid when hitting volleys.

Touch shots: Hard to tell so far. I hit a sick dropper on the 2nd point of the match but tried a few more that were not quite as good later.

Softness: The string feels like a stiffer multi and I had a twinge of elbow discomfort immediately after the match that went away within minutes.

Tension: Might be a pound or two low for my liking but going up in tension would increase the stiffness even more.

Durability: The string looks like a sturdy 16g string. No signs of notching after 2 sets.

Movement: String movement is not too bad so far.

Conclusion: For those who like the feel of solid core synthetic guts, this might be worth a try. It feels like a high quality synthetic gut. I would not recommend it for those with elbow issues.

Yep, no playing the guessing game when the string breaks. The string is very well priced so I'd be happy with 6-8 hours. So this string really has killer spin? I'm realizing that my spin is what hurts my opponents. They all seem to eat up power shots.

How does Polystar Energy compare to Technifibre Biphase?

Biphase is a multi and Energy is a soft poly, so is Biphase much softer? How about power, feel, tension maintenance, spin production, etc..?:)

^^^ I just bought a pack of 17g PolyStar Energy. I picked that gauge because a friend of mine said it is softest. He has strung 3 reels of that stuff for himself and his customers in the last month! Guess I'm late to the party...

Late to the party beats missing the party:). It's a great string too bad I hate having to restring it every 5 or 6 hours due to massive tension loss. For the price, it can't be beat.

Mikeler, this is getting confusing. Maybe you should have a Mikeler's Polys thread as well as a Mikeler's Multis thread?

I suppose if I hybrid it with a multi then I can still keep my thread title? It's just a test to see if my arm can handle it. If not, back to multi testing...

Polystar energy in a hybrid: Currently using: Mains -dunlop hexy 60 Crosses - Polystar Energy 58

So far I like it a lot, I strung up two on Sunday and the third on Monday. Hit with one for 5 hours on Sunday no noticeable tension loss, hit with the second Monday and Tuesday for a total of about 4 hours no noticeable tension loss. I am hitting tonight I will try the first racket again to see what I notice.

A local guy here says tension loss is not a problem with this string but then some of the other knowledgeable string posters in the other playtest threads say it does lose tension fast. I'll have to try it out for myself I suppose. My local guy suggested stringing it at 58 on my crank machine. How do you like it at that tension?

If you are just transitioning to polys, you should start out with multi/poly hybrids and see how that goes. No pain, then move on to a poly/multi and THEN full poly.

Not yet, let's wait and see how my elbow reacts. Even if my arm does fine, I may not like using these polys.

I hear ya, but you have worked hard to play without pain and it doesn't take much to reaggravate it. just sayin.....

It is good advice. I probably should go and buy some MultiFeel from the local shop to use as the mains.

^^^ yea, Jack's advice is good. Start with your softest multi in the mains/polystar cross (just to gauge comfort because playability may not be impressive at all). Then progress to polystar main/multi cross if the first goes well. Then try full polystar if those both work because, 1) I have tried multi/polystar energy and I was thoroughly UnderWhelmed... 2) comparing that to full Energy was night and day: multi/energy was an uncontrollable mess, while full Energy was a controllable powerhouse with that great poly playability. I would anticipate Energy/multi being decent, much closer in playability to full Energy than multi mains.

Anyway, sorry I feel a little responsible for derailing this thread to poly talk when I came on and said "OMG Energy"

Yea, last thing, be sure you use a lower powered multi, since Energy is oft considered the highest powered poly. MCS or Multifeel based on your reviews sounds decent.

I wouldn't use a high powered multi unless you need extra power. I prefer dead feeling string beds personally, reminds me of using a table tennis racket.

Yes. I never went to get diagnosed with GE or TE, but my arm was in mucho pain for quite a while there (a year or so ago, thanks to Lux TIMO).

Since then I've been using gut and gut/multi hybrids, flexbar exercises, Band-it armband, etc... until last month when I decided to give gut/poly a go. Just a couple weeks ago I transitioned to full poly again (SP Hyperion--also very comfy), and this week PS Energy and WC Scorpion.

So far, so good. But, I string LOW (43 lbs full poly), and my sticks are sub-60 flex, 18x20 pattern. I still have a backup with gut/multi just in case... but so far so good. :)

I'm a Gamma synthetic gut person too! I have a crank, so I could get away with stringing mine a little higher than yours. The local guy who recommends it is going through 3 reels a month of Polystar Energy for his customers as a home stringer. Tells you how popular the string is around here.

Let me start out by saying that I played last night and the wind was really whipping. It was mostly a cross wind but it seemed like we were also getting downbursts of wind too. I had a 2nd serve ace that bounced twice before it got to my opponent!

Started out last night with NXTC. Hit well with it in the warm-up and first game. After that, I couldn't keep anything in the court. At 3-1, I pulled out X-1 and was having the same issues. So I got the Babolat Addiction out of the bag at 4-1 and never looked back.

I'm not sure if both NXTC and X-1 had lost some tension or it was just the wind. If so, that would definitely move them both down my list some. I probably won't find out since I may cut them out tomorrow.
