I suspect EVERY SanFranciscan has been to Alcatraz, Angel, Treasure, walked the GGBridge, driven Lombard, held hands around the CoitTower, and ate fresh crab at Fisherman's Wharf.

Andre Agassi and Roger Federer played tennis with these fantastic views on top of the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai!! The hotel is built on a man made island, and considers itself a 7-star hotel!

Now this is a Sony Ericsson stunt I can get behind! Flavia Pennetta and Caroline Wozniacki took over Yale Dome football field in a fun promotion for this week’s Pilot Pen Tennis tournament, a US Open tune-up in New Haven, CT.

Anyone else think these ATP photo op things are kinda lame? I mean they always just set up some kids net somewhere and just have the players half ass a few volleys to each other and call it tennis.

How about making the court big enough so the players can actually move and use their skills? May as well be me and vive le beau jeu ! out there gently volleying to each other

if you want a larger court, just look at post #258. ;)

it's just for fun... i think people enjoy to see the players playing in the street, even it's not even a decent court. and maybe this kinda demonstration can also bring some additional spectators to the tournaments ?

How do I post a photo?

I actually have my own tennis court on the property!

It's not exotic, but worth the look.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah I get that its all about publicity, but I think it would be cool and a much more exciting spectacle to see the players actually playing properly out in public somewhere.

Like the Soderling/Baghdatis pic. It looks like theres enough room for them to set up even just a half court big enough to get them to hit some full blown groundstrokes or maybe crack a few serves at each other. Anyway, just my opinion

I think im just hoping to see that Sampras/Agassi guerrila tennis tv commercial re-enacted in real life sometime haha

my gf took me there (alice marble) last fall. Had the driver from The Ritz-Carlton take us the :)

It was either the amazing view or that new soft hard court material, but my gf beat me:)

I am staying in Berkeley right now and I am going to try to go play here later today. Sounds like a early morning time might be better for crowds and court availability?

Courts near water mean too much wind and a decided preference for swimming, even if the yacht is surrounded by unwanted security. Tennis courts work best in parks and gardens. It was lawn tennis, after all.

I agree, it's hard to hit the courts when the pool is so inviting...

Those courts look depressingly drab....like something you'd see in a low-security prison.

They are ancient--built by William Randolph Hearst at is castle, San Simeon in California. During the 1920s and 1930s, all of the Hollywood stars came to San Simeon and would have played on those courts. There is an indoor pool beneath them. Although the courts are drab, the view is amazing--you can see mountains, the pacific, and of course the rest of the Hearst Castle.

Hey, Granite---are those the courts at Squaw Valley's High Camp, up at 8200 feet? I bought some high-altitude balls a few years ago, thinking I'd play there, but over time, they went dead, sealed in the can....

Na, those are lower Dollar Point courts in Tahoe City (6200 ft). I have played up at High Camp (8200 ft) though and its pretty awesome and very lively.

Where are those courts located?

Located at Hyde St and Greenwich St. in SF. You can even take the cable car up there. Great view but not so great when it's foggy or windy (impossible to play). The court surface is slow and has odd bounces but easy on the joints. I played there for many years.

Clay courts the Four Seasons Resort in Nevis, West Indies. Wish I had better photos but I was busy playing tennis and the resort has the best photos on their website anyway.

How was the Four Seasons in Nevis? My wife and I are planning a long weekend this spring. We went to St Lucia (Ladera) last year and loved it. We might go back, but we're also looking at Nevis and Petite St. Vincent. I'm sure the Four Seasons is top notch, but I'm wondering about the natural beauty of the area and also the ease of getting in and out. We have young kids, so we can only go for a couple of days.

Couldn't find any pictures of the courts - but this is the view from the red clay courts closest to the coast - the Miraflores suburb of the city:

There was another club with terraced red clay courts a little further south. Wish I'd taken my sticks...

No, it was a few yrs ago - AA had a sale - $440 roundtrip from LA! Pretty cool that there are two facilities so close together. I check AA every so often to see if they are having sales - definitely going back.

alpine court

we had a nice view on this court in gaudissard (1830 m) in the queyras (hautes-alpes), with the pic de rochebrune (3320 m), which is close to the famous izoard pass, in the background. :)
(this made up for the state of the court and the antique rackets that were available) ;)
