I wish Milos himself showed a little more pep out there. On the one hand, it's good to see him so composed and unflustered but he strolls around so laconically he doesn't generate any excitement. Very impressed with his game today though.

Did Pete show any pep out there? LOL

Monfils is gradually figuring Milos out. He is getting returns in play by now reading the Raonic serve like the alphabet.

Milos is in trouble when Gael gets his hots deep and with loop fllowed by drop shots.

= the way to beat Milos.

does this look like a clown to you!

Great photo! He's the Clowncrobat, the edgy clown children run from.

Seriously, with that much athletic talent, why doesn't he have a major yet? He won 3 of the 4 junior majors but what's holding him back at the next level? IMO, it's that little tennis court between the ears. That's where majors are won and lost.

I'm actually starting to think he'd rather entertain than take home the silverware ... he knows his capabilities and uses them to entertain ... problem is they can get him into trouble when he's up aaginst a hot, talented opponent like milos

speaking of hot, monfils has raised his level, now up a break in the third, 5-2, raonic serving to stay in it ... wow that happened fast

Monfils deserved it, as Raonic dropped the level of his first serve after the 1st set, and to some extent let himself be amused and distracted by M's clowning and ... coming to the net (which I mentioned) ...

Good progress for Raonic.

love his game a ton!

At least I called the Niemenen win in 3.

Where's Raonic off to next?

Monfils knows tennis.
Raonic is learning it fast.

true ... and it's more a matter of raonic's body learning it .... i get the feeling that once the match went into a third set, monfils had the upper hand in the conditioning department. seems that milos' body wouldnt do exactly what he wanted it to in the later games of the third set ... he's not totally match tuff yet, still recovering from that long layoff ... hope he can continue healthy into 2010 :)

otoh, monfils was able to kick it up a notch when he had to

A good result from Raonic, at least he this should give him tons of confidence winning a few matches.

Man I hoped it would have been a Blake Monfils final.

Just realized this match was a potential preview of the Canada/France DC in February. Given it's in Canada, the surface will almost certainly be indoor, fast HC and barring injury these 2 could be selected for singles (though France is really deep and might pick somebody better suited for fast indoor courts like Tsonga/Gasquet/Llodra). Hopely Milos will have learned something from this loss and also be closer to top match form in a few months.

Here's what Raonic said about today's match

"I had my opportunities," said Raonic. "I was up a break in the second set and got a bit tight. I had some sloppy mistakes. He's a top-10 player so he'll take those and run with them."

Lots will be learned from this match. His injury comeback is more than hoped for...his 4th semi of the year. And a title. And he's 20 years old. And he's Canadian! LOL

Great effort from Rocket Raonic. I'd like to see him start hitting the gym like La Monf.

But there's no doubt about it -- this kid could be really good.
