Official TW String Playtest: 2012 Wilson String B

Received string yesterday. Strung last night. No problems stringing. String was neither especially stretchy or stiff during stringing. Definitely a 16g string.

Racquet: Volkl PB10 Mid (16 x 19)
Tension: Mains 53, Crosses 50

I have only hit with multis in these frames twice. Demo frame had NXT 16g. New frames were strung with Gripper 16g by the vendor. I currently use Spiral Flex 16g in one practice frame and a gut/poly hybrid 17g in my match frame.

I hit groundstrokes with my 4.5 practice partner for 90 minutes this morning. The test string reminds me very much of the two multis experienced in the past (NXT and Gripper): Very control oriented, only powerful when hit in the middle of the sweet spot, and only average in terms of spin generation. Directional control was good with this string but I was not getting the depth I am used to with my two strings of choice. I really felt like I was putting a lot more energy into my shots than normal, only to have the ball land a couple of feet behind the service line. Anytime I was late or rushed, the ball either ended up in the net or landed a couple of feet inside the service line.

I find the Spiral Flex the be more crisp and slightly more powerful than this test string. Both are equal in terms of spin potential. At only $3.00 per set for Spiral Flex, I am not convinced this is worth substantially more based on only one hour of hitting thus far.

For the final 30 minutes of hitting today, I grabbed my match frame strung with Pacific Classic Gut/Volkl V-Pro 17g. The difference was dramatic. Easily twice the rpms on groundstrokes and much better depth. Much larger feeling sweet spot also.

On a more positive note, the test string was not harsh and exhibited very little movement for the first hour of hitting. I plan to hit with it a couple more times over the long weekend and will post regarding to its durability, serve, and volley characteristics at that time.

received my string today. turkey day tomorrow so will probably be able to string this up over the weekend and hit with it next week weather permitting. excited to try out a multi. i don't use a string like that normally.

Play Test

Tension: 56 on mains and 54 on crossed. Full bed
Regular string set up: Kirschbaum Proline II 16g
Racquet: Microgel Radical Midplus (18x20)
Power: 7/10 Did not have too much problem finding power. Fortunately, I did not find myself blasting the ball out too often.
Feel: 7/10 I would have appreciated more pop. This string feels great on the arm though.
Serves: 8/10 not as crisp as I wanted it to be, but I was able to place it roughly where I had planned.
Tension maintenance (how long it holds its tension): 8/10
Durability: Still testing the durability. The string is quite thick though. Seems like durability will not be an issue.
Overall:
Compared to the Kirschbaum Proline II, this string lacked the “pop” and crisp feel
Stringing was not too difficult (8/10)
Groundstrokes: the ball does not bite much. This is probably due to its thick gauge
This string is average when compared with others. Probably not worth hyping over

Unable to get my racket strung over the Thanksgiving weekend....

Tension: Strung at 60lbs as a full bed.
Normal String Setup: My normal string setup is Gamma Asterisk Spins at 61lbs of tension as a full bed.
Racquet: I play with a Babolat Pure Storm (2009 Edition).
Power: I found these strings to provide a decent amount of power. Being a big hitter, I found these strings to have had my shots bouncing around the service line on flat shots as oppose to penetrating the baseline.
Rating: 7/10
Feel: These strings provided for great feel especially at net, I was really able to hit much more solid volleys with them then I normally am which I enjoyed because I take every chance to get to the net.
Rating: 8.5/10
Tension Maintenance: I didn't have too much time with these being that this is a Playtest but they are thick strings and they were all in tact after some relatively high tension stringing in the frigid Northeast and are quite thick so I'm sure they'll hold up.
Rating: 8.5/10
Overall: Over all these strings provided for good feel from all areas of the court, especially the net but were definitely lacking in power.

Too much that im use too. It felt really nice and plush, but ground strokes and serves were flying deep in the 2 sets of doubles and singles groundstroke rally points we played. In the single rallies, I couldn't hit out like i'm use to and basically pushed and played defense to stay in points

To me felt really nice, but I wasn't really use to it

Tension maintenance (how long it holds its tension)
Can't say, I plan on restringing with the other half set, but make the crosses 5lbs higher. The 2 hours I used it though, they seemed to start notching

Im not the right person to really rate this string as I prefer full poly. However, maybe someone who is sensitive to strings would like this string for the right price.

Stringing- a breeze. No problems whatsoever. A little ghosting did happen.

Groundstrokes- you could basically read pv's views on it. It's a good, solid multi. Ample spin, good power, and a nice, consistent response. Flat shots were noticeably better than trying to really spin it.
Overall- 8.5/10

Serves- again, about the same as every other middle of the line multi. Decnt spin, plenty pf power, and kicks were pretty nice too. Nothing spectacular.
Overall- 8.5/10

Volleys- this setup preformed excellently at the net. Now i like a low powered setup for volleys, but this really did well. Plenty of power for put aways, but also plenty of touch and pocketing for drop volleys.
Overall- 9.5/10

Stiffness- 1 being the softest, 10 being the stiffest
Overall- 3/10

Durability- average for a multi, so not great.
Overall- 6.5/10

Overall, I'd put this at around maybe 130-150 bucks a reel. I mean, it's not excel or x-1, but it's a good value multi.

alrighty i got this string a few days ago and have strung it into my wilson blx six one tour (stock) at 55 lbs i usually string hybrid poly cross and gut mains

Stringing was very easy, it's a multi after all. No problems with that at all, didn't stretch as much as i expected.

Ground strokes - well, they weren't too bad in fact i liked the feel of the string. it was like a downgraded version of wilson nxt, at least i thought so. the forehands felt like they were pocketing the ball nicely, the spin for me was enough, i'm a relatively flat hitter. the power was nice but not explosive or overwhelming. my backhand felt fairly okay, i felt like i could rip it with enough control and spin. the string was fairly soft on the arm too, no issues with that at all.

Serves - were meh, the power and feel of the pocketing was fairly nice, but the spin lacked quite a bit on my second serves, i felt like i just couldn't get enough spin. but the feel and control was alright, i would use it for a quick substitute.

Volleys - i usually don't volley often as i should, but from what i did with this string they felt clean, and crisp. again i'm not an expert with volleys so i can't tell you much about the control side of the volleys :/ but i can say that they were nice and touchy by that i mean you had a good feel/connection with the ball when hit.

overall, i didn't mind this string, much better than the gold luxilon playtest i had. i liked this string it felt nice and lively, decent control and the durability is not too shabby. not much notching and not too much string movement.
i think i would give this one an 8/10 but that's just me.

The problem is that I can't stop staring at it, like it's an optical illusion I have to figure out.

First, thanks TW staff for the opportunity. This will be a 2 in one review from these string since I have at these moment chronic tennis elbow (with a cortisone shot given to me this past Tuesday), and pass the torch to my wife to finish the review(She plays like Kana level, but one hand backhand instead).​

We played either with Babolat VS 16 or Tonic (Ball feel) Full bed @ 57 pounds, with a back up racquet of Maxim Touch full bed @ 58 pounds.

Power (or lack there of) It have a good pop to it that it was enjoyable. Something in between regular sensation and NXT. And didnt felted in my arm while I hit. So thumbs up for future players coming from injuries and looking for something reliable and playable while they heal.


Feel
Soft and great touch. We got close to net and practice volley, and it felt like I said before with good pop and was direct it where I want it.

Tension maintenance (how long it holds its tension) My wife play for 2 hours hitting with a 4.5 guy and she reply didn't felt in that period of time any lost. I personally check with the tourna stringmeter and was @ 54 pounds.


Overall comments and feedback
We are on the look for a good soft playable multi for our back up racquets. We were happy with maxim touch, but as soon as lost the coating start playing different(doesnt grab the ball well).
This string test it really remind me like a baby NXT, it does everything well. If the coating is as good as NXT then this is a winner, cause softness and playability are there. Today my wife played one more hour with the 4.5 guy and was shifting from her Tonic to the test string. Her game didnt change and didnt heard any complaint(which she gives when hitting with Maxim Touch).

Personally and speaking from the both of us we are tired of the low power strings, even the one coming in multis now. We like strings with good bounce and pop, and this test string is one of them. So props to Wilson for not going in the trendy way.

I'll start the review by saying that I have NEVER played with a synthetic gut or multi before. I have always used poly strings.

I strung the B string at 57 lbs, which is mid tension in my Dunlop Aerogel 4d 300 tour. Normally, I use BHBR 17 at 52 lbs.

Groundstrokes: Since I have never used a multi before, it took me awhile to figure out how to hit my forehands. I hit with a lot of spin, and I was not able to get that with this string. What I did get was controllable power. Way more potential to hit flat than with my normal setup. I found myself out hitting my 5.0 partner in forehand to forehand exchanges. Even though I wasn't able to hit with much spin, I found myself hitting just as well with the flat ball.

Serves: There wasn't anything special going on with my serves. I got nice control, but my kick serves suffered. I just couldn't get any bite on the ball. I was forced to simply slice in the ball.

Speaking of slices, they were outstanding. The ball didn't float, and I could chip and charge.

Volleys (Feel): This is where I loved this string. My dunlop mutes everything, so I was relieved to find that there was a response to the stringbed. I could control angle and depth on volleys, which made doubles very fun.

Overall, I had a great first experience with this string. If it is reasonably priced, say $50 a reel, then I would add this to my collection. It is something that I will need to try in a thinner gauge.

When will this playtest need to be completed? Rolled my ankle playing volleyball so I'd like to stay off it for a few days if possible. Thanks!

as a hybrid with RPM Blast in the mains.

Regular setup- see sig

Forehand- coming from NXT Tour which IMO a more powerful string the string was underpowered, it if of course what I expected. I gave the other half of the set to my sister and she said it was a great string lol. My forehand had less spin than usual and it was harder to get pace on ball.

Backhand (2HBH)- Pretty much the same as my FH.

Slices- My slices were pretty much the same, except it didnt have the crispness of my usual set up.

Volleys- same, great feel and control though.

Serves- on my spin serve I was lacking some of the extra pace. On my 1st serve it was pretty much the same.

Overall this string is a decent string and what most of us would expect out of a cheap multi.

Tension Strung: 57 lbs
Hours Played: 4-5 hrs
Stringing: Overall, it was pretty easy to string.
Serves: 7/10 - strings were decent on serve, lacked a bit of power than my usual strings
Groundstrokes: 8/10 - I felt the string was a little under powered, but it helped me control the ball more
Spin: 7/10 - spin was ok, nothing really special
Durability: 9/10 - String looks pretty thick, after about 4 hours of play, no real sign of wear
Comfort: 7/10 I felt that after first stringing it, the string felt pretty soft, after hours of play, i feel as if the comfort started to die down as time passed

This is the follow up to the above post. I have now hit with the test strings for three hours. Today I used them for the first sets of both a singles and doubles match.

Serves: Very easy to hit consistent first serves. However, I was not getting the pace or spin that I am used to. Also, I didn't feel like I could confidently go for the lines on serve placement. 7/10

Groundstrokes: The strings seemed to have softened a little since the first day of use and have marginally more power. However, any shot hit from outside the sweetspot often fell short. This was especially true for returning serve. Also, I didn't have enough feel from the stringbed to consistently place balls near the baseline. 6/10

Volleys: Strings were predictable on volleying balls with pace. However, I found the them lacking on touch shots at net. I just couldn't get enough feedback from the stringbed to place drop shots with ease. 6/10

Durability: After three hours of use, the strings were still quite resistent to movement. I did notice the outer coating had started to peal in the sweet spot. No notching was present. These strings in the 16g should be a durable string. 8/10

Overall: In general, these strings perform like the other multis I have tried in my current frames: small sweet spot, low power, muted feel. The Volkl PB 10 Mid is a midsize, flexible frame with relative low power and seems to respond better to crisp strings. Perhaps the test strings are better suited to stiffer more powerful racquets. 7/10

Style: Heavily dependent on serves, baseline top spin player and 2 handed back hand.
Self rating: about a 3.5
Stringing: Very easy to string for me. Stiff enough for me to weave through and not too soft like regular multies. A little easier to push through then soft polys too.



Tension it is strung: Full bed at 58 pounds

Power: (8/10) The strings have a little more power then what I am use to but it has less power then the usually multis I tried. I used power multis like head intellistring, gamma TNT and dunlop explosive. I usually hit a little long with those which was one of the reason I stopped using them, but with test string I was hitting deeper close to the baseline instead of long. Additionally, with the power, I was getting less spin then I usually do. Not sure why. Could be the type of string or gauge but I prefer more. More then most multies though but it wasn't as much as I liked which might be why I got a little more depth then I usually do.

Feel: (7/10) It was ok. It was soft but I thought that it had a lack of pop compared to other types of synthetic gut strings. I like soft but I find pop and feel more important if I'm using anything that isn't poly. Over all it had good feel and the combination of softness and pop was good enough for me.

Tension maintenance: (9/10) I like to let the strings sit int he racquet for a day of two after stringing so the string settle in. The String felt a little different from the 1st to hitting session but not much. After that, the tension has felt about the same. I've only had it in for a couple of days though and I don't really notice a difference in string tension until a month later.

Durability: (8/10) I usually use 17g in synthetic gut and polys. Synthetic gut usually only last me 1-2 weeks and polys last me about 2 months. These seem thicker which might be why they are holding up better but so far so good.

Overall comments and feedback: (7.5-8/10) It was a pretty good string but still not what I prefer. I like a little more control and spin from my strings but its very playable and more control then I usually find from a multi. Might be because its a different type then I tried though. Good string. Seemed to give me more feel and power then I am use to but less spin and control. Might be something to look into when it gets cold out or something for multi users to try (which i'm not) but right now, its just not what i am looking for.

I live in Singapore and just received my string today. Will string it up tomorrow and playtest it on wednesday. Should be fun

My Background: 4.5 player, mostly singles, baseline, heavy topspin, 2HBH. I use a Tecnifibre T-Fight 320 VO2 Max, usual string setup is RPM Blast 17g strung at 50 lbs.
I strung this up in the crosses as a hybrid with Blast at 50 lbs and the Wilson string at 57 lbs.

I have tried hybrid setups quite a few times with different strings and have generally found them to add quite a bit of pop to my shots. I was surprised when I hit with this that just the opposite happened. I found it was underpowered and I was catching the tape a lot.
As to be expected with a hybrid setup I did not get the topspin I like out of the string either. When I would go for a big topspin baseline screamer it just would not dip in.
Serves were alright, but again, I did not get the pace I usually do.
Feel, I keep trying hybrid setups because I do like the feel of the softer string bed. I could definitely place my volleys with more precision than with my normal setup. It did soften the string bed but not as much as other multi's like NRG2.

I am not going to rate this string on tension maintenance as we all know that Blast does not hold tension so I don't think it would be fair to knock this string because of what I partnered it with.

Overall, I don't think it is the greatest multi, but I have played with worse. It has good feel, and pretty decent durability for a multi. Probably due to its thickness.

When I played a match with this string I played the first two sets with this setup and lost the first set bad to a guy I always beat. By the second set I figured out the string and took that set in a tiebreak. The unfortunate thing for this strings review is I switched to my other racquet with a full bed of Blast in the third set and ran away with it. All the sudden those big forehands started to drop and I was able to hit some winners. My serve also came back. My opponent did not know I had switched racquets and after the match commented that in the third set I started dropping bombs on the serve and all the sudden he was struggling to keep up on groundstrokes.

I was really hoping I would find a multi I would love but unfortunately this is not it. The search continues.

It seriously reminds me of a firmer version of sensation. At the same time, I never used Sensation in 1.30mm. Only 17g. I'm assuming that's contributing strongly.

I'll do sort of a preliminary review now, might do a more extensive review on Saturday. Last week I actually forgot that I had to do it from a reviewer's point of view. But here goes!

String is installed in a Pro's Pro Art of War, which is basically a midplus Prestige clone (same mold and all, weight and string pattern, maybe a denser string spacing) at 25 kilograms/55 lbs, usual string of choice is Babolat PHT17 at the same tension. A bit about myself, I'm a serve and volleyer with a big serve, decent forehand and a backhand that used to be a weapon, but is now quite crappy. In short, I avoid baseline play as often as I can.

Power-wise, there wasn't really that much to it. I didn't really find that much pop from it, but it could be a combination of a low-powered racquet (with incredible trampoline effect if I may add) and rather low-powered strings. Though there was more power compared to the PHT, and once I swung out, balls did go deep enough to put my practice partners in trouble. I usually have a big serve, but this string tended to take away the usual power of it.

I actually liked this string for spin. There was plenty of bite to land balls deep, and slices were penetrating though they tended to float. Kick serves were great with this string. They had a lot of action and got great bounce.

Feel was VERY good in my opinion. Volleys were crisp and precise, droppers died nicely. There's nothing more to add!

Overall I really liked this string, and if the string isn't that expensive once it comes out, I might buy it. This is actually the first multi I've ever tried (I've tried synthetic, poly and gut and multi/poly in a hybrid, but never full multi). As I said it's a feel string and it looks like it'll last for quite a while (I measure durability not by tension loss, but how long it takes for it to break) so two thumbs up!

Racquet: Boris Becker Melbourne (98" 18x20)

I would not call these durable as I noticed fraying after one match. That's a first with any multi I've used thus far.

Player: 4.5, Semi Western FH, 2HBH, Slice from both wings when needed. All court liking to finish at net. See 'Sphinx780s Multi-Quest' thread for more info on me.

Stringing: No kinking, super smooth stringing.

Power: I'd put this one in the mid to lower range for a multi. It's very controllable and there is ample access to power when you need it. For my game, I prefer a little more zip on the ball but if I was using a Wilson or another more powerful players stick, this would add some nice control. 6/10 on my power scale.

Feel: Pretty good for a multi but not a cut above the better multis. Volley's and groundstroke adjustments were great but the dropper left a little to be desired. Still, I thought it gave great feedback to the hand so adjustments could be easily made for the spots where it was lacking 8.5/10

Tension maintenance: As I had hoped, it took about 15 min to settle in and from there it was as steady as can be. I wouldn't expect tension to be an issue over the long haul 9/10

Durability: Bah, I won't be able to give another match to this one before it snaps. That's a first for me since going all-multi. Could have just been the perfect storm but it'd get real expensive if I had to buy new string for every match 3/10....11/30/11 update: 30 min of warming up and they snapped as expected.

Comfort: Overall this was a fairly comfortable string, it's not the stiffest out there which helps quite a bit. It didn't light a fire in my rotator cuff like addiction did which is a very stiff multi. Still, a little more power would increase arm friendliness. 7.5/10

Control: Feel factors aside, control with this string was top notch and where I felt it shined. I could really mix up the pace and spins on a fast indoor court without fear of missing. For a high swing speed you get a near perfect blend imo of control an power. Precise would probably be a better descriptor. I'd rate this a 10/10 here except that I do consider feel to be a part of control so I ratcheted it down one for that. 9/10

Overall comments and feedback: Based off of older reviews, this is how I would have expected multilfeel to play. It seems to be a lower powered, control oriented multi that's not harsh on the arm. All around, it doesn't have a glaring weakness but it also doesn't have one aspect that would make you rush out and pay more than other mid level multi's. I can see some players really loving this string and although I didn't fall head over heels with it, I could see myself revisiting this string when my shoulder is at full strength. The one other thing to note, I felt that this was the single best multi I have come across for slicing the ball. Groundstrokes as a whole is where I felt this showed it's true colors.

Overall, I'd give this an 7/10 for a Multi, 8.5 if you plan on stringing every match. My quibbles with it are really durability and me wanting a little more power from it but those are both attributes that vary from player to player on both preference and game type. It seems others had much better luck with durability than I did. I don't remember the last time I broke a string since moving to an 18x20 pattern.

Power - I feel like I had good power with this string. I purposely strung it a couple lbs higher than I usually do so I can control it though shots were landing deep in the court and dipped but it didn't kick like it usually does with my usual set-up. 8/10

Feel - I liked the feel this string gave me, volleys felt very crisp and I liked it a lot on the forehand volley. Drop shots were great, I loved them but it wasn't incredibly great. 7.5/10

Tension Maintenance - Great tension maintenance but I can't comment too much as I didn't play with it very long. Didn't drop like my polys though (Lux) 9/10

Durability - Again can't comment too much since I didn't play very long and I'm not a string breaker sorryyy

Overall & Misc - Overall I liked the string a lot if it's cheap I might use it instead of the gut in the mains for my current racquet.

Player: 4.0, Semi Western / Extreme Eastern, 2HBH and 1HBH, heavy top from both wings. Do hit a cutting slice on the BH side as well. Mostly kick serves with an occasional hard 'flat' first. An all court grinder now that I am 46. Still have some of my old power and racquet speed but can't wield a heavy stick anymore.

Stringing: I have my racquets strung at my local shop. This string proffered no complaints from them.

Power: With clean flat sweet spot hits this string offered a little more power than my usual set up even though strung at a higher tension. I have never hit with a multi before so don't know how to compare this to other similar strings. The flat power from this string was a problem for me because I couldn't hit my top as consistently as with my normal string set-up. Seems like a nice string for a flat ball. Slice power was fine. Nice power for a flat serve. [this is a good string for me in doubles - return of serve hard and low is consistent and directional control is better than average] 5/10

Feel: The feel of the string is sturdy (these are thick) and the ball seemed to shoot off the strings. Touch was very nice. Easy to modulate and I didn't have to adjust my game for touch shots like I did for all other aspects of my shot making. Drops were fine. Flat open face lobs OK. Couldn't hit my normal topspin lob with this string. [now that i have some time playing with a multi, the kick serve hard and deep and off-speed and short are both available] 8/10 (this string is nice in the touch department)

Tension maintenance: Not enough time to tell, but I can tell you there wasn't a marked difference in the tension as I usually see after I 'break in' my normal set up. [after about 8 ours of playing time tension maintenance is solid there is no marked tension loss like i experience with poly] 9/10 (so far so good)

Durability: This is a thick string. Did I mention that? No issues with durability for the short amount of time I have hit with them, but these strings did move on me. Probably will be fine to normal as to durability. I am normally a string breaker but just didn't feel like I was hitting in a way that would wear this string out. Time will tell. [while there was some initial fraying that has not accelerated, these strings have been stable and durable for me. Some movement and a little notching occuring but they have held up well so far at about the 8 hour mark] 8/10

Comfort: I have had elbow issues in the past. This year I played a lot of tennis but have switched to a 2HBH and that seems to really have helped. My normal setup can give me twinges when I play tournaments but it has been under control. This string is plenty comfortable. [still comfortable particularly as judged against poly for me. normally poly would start going dead for me starting at about the 8 hour mark causing elbow pain, usually a good indication i need to restring. i very rarely break poly. syn gut mains i can break after a few hours of play with an off center return of serve. these strings are very comfortable still after 8 hours of play time.] 8/10 (comfortable so far compared to my hybrid)

Control: My control comes from topspin. I have to work really hard to hit top with these strings but there didn't seem to be any dwell time even with a good strike. Just didn't feel right to me, particularly anything off center. For someone that plays controlled flat tennis this may be a nice string. This may well be a multi characteristic, but as I mentioned I have never hit with a multi. Kick serves were not kicking much. [probably because i haven't played with a multi (and i use thin strings at low tensions as well), this string in a full bed has taken some getting used to. i am not sure if i am adjusting to the string per se, as i have played with my normal strings as well as these and don't have any issues going back in forth, but control has greatly increased for me with this string. particularly in my doubles game i can hit consistently at 75% to 80% now without fear of the ball flying out. topspin is ok now but not as easy to find as per thin poly's of course. these strings are well controlled now that i have some experience with them.] 7/10

Overall comments and feedback: I'd probably consider it to be more of a comfort/control string. I say "punchy" on center and dead off center are the predominant characteristics. Not really well suited to my game. I will keep hitting with this and report back and update this review. 7/10 (relative to my string of choice as a 10/10)

about 4 hours of hitting and the strings are starting to fray. this is a really nice string for a doubles game. allows me to hit away flat esp. nice for return of serve. a lot of confidence with directional control here. the more i play with this the more i am convinced this is a comfort and control string. it really is very underpowered compared to my regular strings on anything off center, but i can hit away with these as long as it is a flat stoke. topspin continues to require much work. net play is great. volleys offer easy deep punch and touch. much better at the net than my hybrid syn gut and poly. flat serves took some getting used to but while not the same pace as my normal setup directional control is more reliable with pace. the kick serve is actually coming around withe these strings.

Regular String set up: Kirschbaum Pro II 1.20 24kg/23kg

Power: The power of the testing string feels lower than my Kirschbaum polyester(Poly was after 6 hours of play). I had to swing a bit harder to have the same power as my current setup.

Feel: The string feels soft and it feels better than my poly on volleys. I am flying the ball by few centimeter because the test string did not generate enough spin. The spin was definitely lower than poly.

Tension maintenance: I lost some tension after two hours of play but not by much. I would say 3-5 percent of original tension.

Overall comments and feedback: The string did not produce any hotspots in my string bed. The spin generation was good but not great for a multi. I would recommend this string to people who like soft and lower powered string for control. Similar to Mantis Comfort Syn but not use this string as a cross. I believe this string is going to be in 12 dollar range and I would not buy it for that price range. A good comparison to this string would Technifibre Mulit-feel. Both string do not produce extreme power and just a consistent control string.

First, I want to thank TW for sending me the strings. Generally speaking, most would consider me a 5.0 player but I have not been rated in many years and am going off of the ratings of the people I play with.

My regular set-up is VS gut mains at 57 and Signum Pro Plasma in the crosses also at 57 in a Yonex rd ti-80 UL. I strung this at 57 in a full bed. In retrospect, I should have just replaced it for the gut.

This was a very easy string to string. No super-kinks or even marking from the clamps which i have had with some really soft multis in the past.

In regards to power, the string definately has more pop than my normal set-up. As i mentioned earlier I should have strung it with the Signum to see if it is more powerful than the gut. My instinct says no but it definately has good power. It was also comfortably soft. I still felt the stringbed was firm but it is very comfortable and should be good for people with arm issues.

In regards to spin access, this was a very good string. I had really good movement on my slice backhand and good spin on the serve. It was a thicker string but i really felt it was good for spin. I also was able to hit some good backhand touch volleys.

In regards to durability and tension maintenance I think the string is average. I have not noticed any fraying of the strings but there was a lot of movement. (This is part of the reason I switched to the use of polys in the cross because I don't get all of the movement.)

Overall this is a good string. As I mentioned earlier, I should have strung it with the Signum to compare it truly bnut I wasn't sure it that was allowed. I would definately use it again especially in the summer when I play on clay a lot. Once again thanks for letting me play-test this string.

Very Easy to string.
My regular set up is a hybrid of Gosen Polyon Ice and Babolat Syn. Gut at 57 pounds. This is the first Multi. I have ever used. I like it alot. I feel like my shots had good spin but alot more power compared to my regular set up. My serves had a little more pop then normal. But this was all in a days worth of hitting as I cant play alot

I wasn't getting as much punch as my typical setup but compared to sensation and nxt I think this string is about the same for groundstrokes. I have had much better success with x1 biphase where I got more pop, power, and control in my ground strokes.

Serves felt nice, I was able to execute some flat bombs and slice a few out wide but it didn't have as much pace in the shots as my normal set up but was a lot more comfortable.

Tension maintenance (how long it holds its tension) 7/10
I have had it for a little while and tension definitely holds well, but I think durability will be what ends this string.

I have had this string for about a week and it is already showing signs of wear. I do not expect it to last no longer than two more weeks.

Seems like a nice string like sensation with admiral qualities. If priced at the right point I think it would be good for intermediate players looking for more than the typical syn guts out there.

My test set broke @ the 4 hour mark on a clean hit. I am not a string breaker.

Mine broke in just over two hours, I hadn't broken a string in over four years, including several full multi beds.

I was shocked that I broke the strings. The string seemed to be a thick 16G and the strings had not notched at all. String movement was min and not much wear or fraying. The other string that broke that way was Head Rip Control 17. I was getting about 4 more hours out of the Rip 17. I installed the remains in a poly hyrid as a cross and have 8 hours on them and have not broken them. Maybe just a defect in the string??? I would not play that string as a main for in a full bed in any event as they do not seem to match my game. I love them as a cross. If they hit the market about same price as Sensation.. I will buy a reel..

I had noticed significant notching...which surprised me because I hadn't seen that over such a short period since I moved to an 18x20. Could just be that certain play styles don't fare well or a bad batch. I liked the playability of it, but that durability was brutal.

Regular string: hybrid of usually a lux poly ( i like trying different set-ups) and prince sythetic gut

Power: It had good contrable power. A few balls landed long due to the fact it was harder to get spin from this string. My first serve felt it had pretty good pace on it, maybe a little more than i usually get.

Feel: My racquet is like a board if i string it too tight and i usually string my hybrid around 48 but with this string i decided to go tighter and it still felt pretty good. It had a nice feel on volleys and it was nice to have that for a change.

Tension: I was only able to play with it for about three hours and it held up good. Wish i could get out more, but its cold in CT.

Overall: The key to this string is that it has to have the right price. There is nothing overly great about the string and there are plenty of resonably priced string that play just as well and if not better than this. As long as it's the right price ill try it in a few hybrids. If your looking for an OK string in all catagories go ahead and give it a shot but dont pay to much. I wish there was more to say about this string but thats about it.

During the first 2 hours it seemed a little stiff and not much power. The second time I played with it it had the perfect amount of power. This was probably because I strung it a little tighter then usual since its not a poly.

Feel:
I strung 5lbs tighter then my normal setup because I didnt use poly and I think because of this the strings felt a little tight for the first 2hours. The second day was much better once the strings had time to loosen up a little. I had great amounts of feel and spin generation also got much better through the later parts of the playtest, during the second half I felt very little difference from my regular setup. This string felt less stiff and more forgiving on mishits.

Tension maintenance (how long it holds its tension):
Racquet felt the same throughout the first 2 hours of play, after which it seemed to drop a bit. Strings did start to move around a little bit. No signs of fraying etc after 4hrs of play. Tension did drop a bit but for the better for me since it was a little too tight to begin with.

I used the RacquetTune Iphone app to measure string tension. Right after stringing it was 55.3lbs, then after 2 hours of play and a couple days of sitting in the bag it was 51lbs, then finally after the 4 hours and a few more days in the bag it was 50.8


Overall comments and feedback:

I am always looking for a good deal on strings. I have never spent more then $5-$6 on a set. This string reminded me a lot of Golden Set Torque, which I used regularly until it was discontinued. If it was in my price range I would consider purchasing it as a replacement (im using Gosen Sheep Micro now). This string was very easy to string.

In hindsight I probably should have stuck with the poly for my main string and used this string as a cross for a better comparison as I could definitely tell that the poly was missing from the setup during the first 2 hours. After that though it seemed to change quite a bit and I hardly noticed the missing poly.

Tension it is strung: 57 full - 2 knots (easy to string)
Regular string setup: Unique Big Hitter Blue 17 @ 57 (last reel and a half)
Racquet: Yonex Rdis 300 (4g of lead @ 3&9)
Power: 9/10 A lot of power. Very powerful string, I hit a lot of long shots that I usually put few feets inside of the court. I had to hit more slices than usual and put more topspin on the regular shots to keep the ball the less long possible.
Feel: 6/10 For me this string doesnt feel like a multi. Its more like PSGD16. Even Gosen Micro feels better than this Wilson, not to mention Alpha gut and Tecnifibre E-matrix that are the cheapest multis but feels more soft and crisp than this one. But to mention the goods: on the net (volleys) feels very good, solid and good control for the type of string. Drops were ok, nothing special.
Tension: 8/10 No tension loss noticed.
Overall: 4/10 A LOT of string movement. Hit first day like 1.5 hours, on the second day after 45min aprox hit a miss-hit on the top of the frame and Boom. So as I have seen that I'm not the only one on the playtest with this situation. I just hit from the baseline and some volleys. I dont know whats wrong with this string because even with Gosen Micro 18 on the mains and Big hitter blue on the cross last me more than this Wilson. I'm not a Multi fan but this is fatal, not even good to use it as a cross with poly on the mains. Sorry Wilson but I'm being honest.

Thanks TW for giving me this opportunity and apologize if I took too long as the weather has been crazy here in Singapore. It's been raining cats and dogs and finally managed to play with it yesterday.

Tension: 58 lbs, constant pull. Full bed.

Your regular string set up: I don't have a regular setup as I have many rackets and string and love to experiment with them. But, if there was a 'go to' racket, it will be my Head MG Prestige Mid, which was used to with mainly with NRG at 58 initially but recently in hybrid form of Timo 110/OGSM 17 at 52/56.

Racquet: Head MicroGel Prestige Mid

Due to the holidays, I was only able to put about 6 hours on these strings, so I didn't get a good estimation of durability...

Player: 5.5, Eastern FH, 1HBH Eastern BH. Love the FH side more but BH is dependable. All court players who will S&V on first serve and sometimes on second. Flat first serve with a heavy kick/twist on second.

Stringing: Really easy to string with and easy to weave as well. Knot is easy too.

Groundstrokes: The strings has decent amount of spin of power. Nothing fantastic but good enough. My shots landed deep consistently and enough spin for me to hit a short-angled crosscourt FH consistently as well. I normally do not need a lot of power for my setup as I generate it mostly. I like the feel of the racket. It's crisp and solid, which suits S&V. Easy on the arm as well.
Overall: 8.5/10

Serves:On the first serve, this is very good as it has lots of control. But on the second serve, it lacks spin compared to my hybrid. Of course, that is an unfair comparison. But, as a multi, it has decent spin, just have to brush up a bit more.
Overall: 8/10

Volleys:I love it on the volleys. Crisp and plenty of control. Touch, half-volley and volley lobs were easy to execute.
Overall: 8.5/10

Durability:I'm a frequent multi string breaker and that's why I hardly use 17G or 18G multi and mostly play with 16G. There's no notching but I do see some fraying. But I do have a feeling, I will break this soon. But then again, compared to other multi, it's probably on par.
Overall:7.5/10

Tension maintenance: I normally couldn't be bothered about this when it comes to multi as I normally break it before it loses its tension. But I will give this an above average rating.

Overall comments and feedback: I enjoyed the playtest and depending on the price, I think this will be a good offering. May not be for someone who has a typical modern game. I'm an old school player eastern FH, no windshield wiper kind of strokes. Plenty of control and if you are an all court or S&V, you will benefit from this.

Your regular string set up: Still figuring it out. I only play Multi’s and SynGut (both 17g) at the moment trying to find the setup I like the most. Two setups I use frequently (Isospeed Energetic 17g @59 and Forten Sweet 17g @59)

Racquet: Head Youtek Speed Pro

Stringing: Stringing was easy and had no issues at all. Usually only string 17g but felt no noticeable difference with this particular string at 16g other than getting through the grommet for tie-offs.

Power: I felt that this string was about average for power (in terms of multi’s). It had decent pop. I felt not crazy about the power but at the same time I was not disappointed either. I would say content would be good word.

Feel: I liked the feel of this string. Again here was nothing amazing but then also nothing bad to say about it. For me it was good and I had no issues with depth and direction on my shots. Slices where good but spin was not the greatest.

I liked slices with this string in terms of placement and depth but spin was below average. I really like the control I had volleying with this string, it was crisp and comfortable definitely like the string at the net.

Overall comments and feedback: Pretty good string. Really nothing stood out negatively but also not much was just amazing about the string. In terms of spin I felt that this string was subpar but not terrible. I did like the response at net from this string and found this to be a good string for volleying. I will try this string in a 17g so I can have a more direct comparison to the other strings I have tested. On serve this string was lacking a bit for me because of both not enough pop of the stringbed and the subpar spin. I think that was the one area where two of the characteristics combined had me rate the string slightly below average. From the baseline I liked the control this string offered me in terms of depth and placement. I usually hit a very heavy ball with decent spin but with this string the top spin on my baseline shots was a bit less than usual. What the string was missing in spin it did make up in control for me. All in all I did enjoy this string and depending on the price this could be a comfortable training set-up. Definitely was surprised by the lack of durability especially for a 16g string. My overall rating would be 8/10

Racquet brand and model -- Borris Becker DC London 16x19 98 si

Power (or lack there of) -- This seemed to be very low powered coming from Live Wire XP. It could have been that the Live Wire XP was getting more powerful as it got closer to breaking. As long as you practiced proper strokes, you could swing away at the ball and it wouldn't fly.

Feel -- felt a bit boardy during the first couple of hours at the base line. At the net it felt much better. As the string bed settled it felt much better both at the net and on ground strokes. I didn't enjoy the feel of this on serves. Good/better/best = serves/baseline/net

Tension maintenance -- on the first hitting session it seemed that the tension stayed the same. After about 2 hours there seemed to be a slight tension drop (feel seemed to improve) and string movement was more apparent. I have probably played about 4-5 hours with this set up (1/3 of it being singles) There are some indentations in the string but have yet to show any notching.

Overall comments and feedback

I feel that this string suited my game if I hit more flat shots. I don't hit with extreme top spin but don't normally hit flat shots often...find me in the middle. This doesn't do any spectacular but does things well.

Stringing - my friend said it was easy to string and felt very soft (he strings stiffer syn guts & kevlar most of the time.

Spin - I wouldn't call this string a spin string. There wasn't much bite. I found myself putting more weight through the contact point to keep the ball down. This seemed to work well on my BH slice. With having to hit through the ball a bit more to keep the ball above the net, the ball seemed to have more weight to it. Seems like a good string to work on fundamentals. It didn't have the extra bite/pocketing that x1/XP had.

Serves - nothing too spectacular. decent direction control and spin but didn't see too much action on the ball.

Ground strokes - Once the string bed seemed to settle in the power went up just a tad. This string wouldn't let me be lazy. Full swing through the ball. I found myself hitting around 2 feet above the net and some shots would kick nicely. I think this was because i had to focus more on putting more weight into the ball.

Volleys - again...felt better as the string bet settled. soft touch volleys had very nice control. with this string being low powered to me i tried punching through the ball a bit more. it paid off with some nice paced volleys.

Durability - seems like it will last a long time for me. However, some of the play testers that have broken it said it didn't notch and then break like many other strings and just snapped.

I think i preferred my Live Wire XP ($13.50) and Dunlop Max Comfort (on sale $8.00, discontinued, must search for) more. Price of this string would make me interested if it was same if not cheaper than Max Comfort. I would probably string a couple pounds lighter and would like to try it in a 17g.

Your regular string set up

I used to play full copolymer, strung 48/46. With the colder weather, I have switched to copolymer mains (52 pounds), synthetic gut or multifilament crosses (50 pounds) depending on what I have. I typically do not play full multifilament strings, as I tend to shred them too fast for their price. Recently, I've been on a kick with Rip Control 17 mains, synthetic crosses.

Power (or lack there of)

This is where this string shines over most multi's I've used. The power response was controllable until the very high end of the string - but unquestionably more powerful than copolymers. This left a lot of power on tap, which ended up being a real positive for me. With the amount of spin I normally hit, having the reserve power made for some excellent serves.

When hitting over about 80-85% of full power swing, maintaining control wasn't easy - but I have to bear in mind that my technique doesn't allow me to hit high ranges consistently.

Feel

Being a copoly user, this string has better feel than my normal setup - this goes without saying. Compared to the multifilaments I have used, this string did seem to be a bit more of a board compared to all but one (RIP Control).

I should note, that this string is by no means stiff overall.

Tension maintenance (how long it holds its tension)

I have only put about four hours onto this string. There has been a small amount of tension drop between the first hour, and the remaining three. That said, the outer coating has basically shredded off, and the center mains have notching present. I don't expect this string to exceed about 6-7 hours before snapping - given I'm not a very powerful hitter, durability can be an issue particularly in very open string patterns.

Playability:

Good spin potential for a multifilament, and plenty of power on tap. I think tension maintenance really isn't too much of an issue for this string, if only for the fact that I don't think it is going to last long enough to drop tension too much further.

Installing these strings was a real snap, nothing difficult to it. My biggest concern is a price vs. playability standpoint - I just don't think this string will be cheap enough for me to continually play with. Wilson strings tend to be a bit expensive for me, and playing full beds of multifilaments makes it harder. That said, if I could justify that price, it would be a tough decision between RIP Control and this - a tradeoff of spin (RIP Control being near copolymers), and the extra power that Wilson puts on tap here, while keeping some nice spin. With my relatively extreme grip and natural inclination towards a spin game, I'd probably want this string to bring a bit more power into the mix.

Power (or lack there of)
A bit more power than my usual co-polys, but I didn't feel I could take advantage of it. This string doesn't have the same bite as Cyber Flash, so I wasn't getting as much topspin as usual, and sailing some shots long when I took a full swing. Consequently, I became a bit tentative and held back a bit on my swing. So, while these strings are more springy and powerful, I really was not hitting as heavy as I do with the co-polys. I'm afraid years of co-poly use have trained me to hit a particular way, which doesn't work as well with these strings. I'm not a good judge of multis, so these might be very good strings for other types of players.

Feel
I definitely felt like I was holding the balls longer on the strings, but you'd expect that, comparing them to co-polys. Not as jarring on the arm, so probably a better choice when my tennis elbow acts up from time to time. I'm not a big net player, so the feel on volleys is not a big deal to me, but the few times I did get to the net, they seemed an improvement over my regular strings, for feel and control. At the baseline, where I spend most of my time, the livelier feel of these strings isn't really an advantage (to me) over poly strings.

Tension maintenance (how long it holds its tension)
Seems fine for the four hours I played them. No major signs of fraying or notching was evident. I'll probably play them a few more times in the next week or so, but this review is already a bit later than everybody else's, so I didn't want to hold things up any longer. I'll update the review if it breaks or goes dead in the coming week.

Multis really are not for me at this point. This string reminded me why I use polys in the first place, and going from poly to multi takes a bit of an adjustment in my swing. I can easily see these strings making a nice cross string in a poly-multi hybrid if the price isn't set too high, though.

Hi TW!!! So, I wanted to test this string, I strung it @ 52, and was ready to go to my local indoor club to hit, and I found out that they are closed for renovations for a couple weeks What should I do??? When do I need a review in by? Thanks guys!

these strings gave me nice controllable power. Early on i was spraying balls long, but i used a shorter more compact swing and was able to produce some blistering winners.

Feel
these strings had a lot of touch on serve and volley, and i played well in doubles with this setup. Drop shots were nice as were backhand slices, as noted by several other playtesters as well

in this section these strigns get a solid rating of 9.0 from me. although i broke them easily, they maintained their freshness throughout the string life from the first stringing to the breaking point
