Djokovic always injured, Fed done, Murray never a threat - Nadal 2012 unstoppable

Will Nadal go on a Djokovic-inspired tear in 2012 or even better, winning all 4 slams + Olympic gold?

Remember, Djokovic looked done a the end of 2010, but was boosted by a Davis cup win. Could we see the very same thing happen to Nadal?

Yes. It is possible. As eveything in life is possible.
He can also win all master series next year.
:D
I wish him the best, honestly, but you should also worry about Federer. He bageled Nadal.

Next season is gonna be awesome.

How does a thread with two response posts get a five-star rating?

Answer: List a lot of nonsense and ignore reality.

Fed "done"? Says who?

Murray not a threat? Remember Tokyo?

Djok may not rebound to '11 level for a 6-0 match count but he is an issue Nadal has no weapons with which to address.

Also, you're ignoring other dangerous players able to upset the Mallorcan applecart...Tsonga, JMDP, Raonic.

Very wishful thinking. The DC parallel...pure coincidence.

Federer is great at indoors, and taking advantage of tired players. That's why he won the last 2 world tour finals and no slams in between....

I agree with your brilliant assessment. Though I might point out that in 2010, he did win a slam although he played Murray in the final, so that really doesn't count. Rafa was injured, so it was a walk in the park.

Yes, Rafa will be highly inspired and motivated by the DC win, and will win 4 slams, Olympics and possibly 5-6 masters at least.

As you say, 2011 is now history. DC is the present. Can't wait till Nadal regains #1 and crosses 16, but that's the future.

Davis Cup is meaningless to Nadal. It was a big deal to Verdasco because Verdasco has never won anything significant in his entire career. So the fact that he could finally do something on a grand scale and bring victory to his country gave him new-found belief AND he did it on HARDCOURTS where most of the season is played.
Nadal winning Davis Cup is FAR below his achievements including having won any of his 10 Slam titles and Olympic Gold. Not to mention Spain has already won Davis Cup before.
And Djokovic is going to be ready for 2012! Especially for the Slams. *******s can keep praying for the best but Nadal is getting older and younger guys are coming up.:)

Spain won Davis Cup on clay. The season is going to hardcourts directly for the next 4 or so months. Again, it all starts from scratch.

Nadal is too old and his game is too ordinary on hardcourts. Even the worst version of Djokovic is going to take him to his very limits. Coupled with the challenge that will come from Murray and Federer. The days of Nadal's domination are over. The competition has stepped up. 2010 was the year of luck as everybody except Nadal was in a slump.

I'd settle for him defending a non clay title for the first time.

OOPS - he has to wait until 2013 at least before that.:)

Because every single year Nadal ends poorly, and always comes back hungry and wins everything. The only spanner in the works was Djokovic.

This year will be no different. I think it will be a literal re-run of last year except for Murray not being in any slam semi's. He will fall permanently out of the top 100.

First of all, Nadal is going to have an extremely hard time winning the HC slams with revivals of JMDP and Tsonga. I think the only way Nadal can win the AO is if he gets a cakewalk draw. Also, do they resurface the courts every year?

They aren't very good at slams. They can beat the players ranked outside of the top 4, and Tsonga can beat Federer. But that's about it (unless you count 2009 when Del Potro beat a damaged Nadal). I'm just not impressed with JMDP/Tsonga's mental toughness. They can't seem to play great tennis for the full fortnight. Even in best of 3 setters, Tsonga really struggles to beat Nadal, he almost lost to Nadal indoors!

Guess Tsonga's destruction of Nadal at the 2008 AO doesn't count because Nadal was either tired/injured or too well rested/rusty.

If Nadal was on form he would have spanked Tsonga that night.

Well Nadal did make Paris finals 2007 and WTF finals 2010. So he's not completely awful indoors. Tsonga and Nadal have normally had competitive hardcourt matches. AO 2008, Indian Wells 2008, Rotterdam 2009, Paris 2009, etc. In a lot of them, Nadal had to save countless break points and Tsonga's BP conversion isn't particularly good. Tsonga isn't an easy match up for anybody on hards.

You've got that the other way around.

I think you meant to say Nadal...done

Fed for an unstoppable 2012.

Nadal won't win more than 1 slam in 2012.

Don't be delusional.

He will be attempting to win a slam for 8 years in a row. Borg, Sampras and Federer only won 1 slam during their 8th consecutive year winning slams. If Borg(1981), Sampras(2000) and Federer(2010) couldn't win more than 1 slam in those years neither will Nadal.

hey clueless, tsonga has beaten djoker multiple times , nadal multiple times and federer mutliple times .....

here's another remainder: tsonga beat nadal twice this year - queens and at the WTF

and yes delpo who wiped the floor with an in-form nadal in USO 2009 .... and beat him at miami and canada masters as well ..... yes, in-form delpo "damaged" nadal

Top 4 guys are very close one to each other. Hard to predict who will be on top. Right now Fed is hot but who knows. Hope Nadal gets ready again and becomes a threat.

A truely challenging year....

2012 will be a truely challenging year for all of the top players with Fed regaining confidence and ability, Djoko looking to prove that 2011 was not a fluke, Murray hungry to get that GS title and Rafa looking to regain what he lost.

Each also have issues as Fed is getting older, Djoko is nursing back and shoulder problems, Murray has still got confidence problems and Rafa working through shoulder, foot and knee issues (more injections). With only 4 weeks rest (2 to be used for training), it doesn't give them much time to recover so good scheduling will become critical.

You also cannot overlook the threats from the other top players when you throw all of these issues in the pot, as they all are good players and very hungry to make their mark. Scheduling and the draw could make or break a GS title.

I think next year will be similar to 2011. However, I could see Fed or DelPo winning a GS this year. Delpo doesnt have all his confidence back yet, but if he stays healthy he will soon.

If Djokovic, Federer, and Murray are all out with injuries most of the year, there is a pretty good chance of it. It's not impossible that they all could have major physical problems.

Thing is though.........

The thing is that none of those players have a history of "injuries most of the year". The only one who does consistently for the last 10 years is Rafa(poor biomechanics/kinetics and muscling play style), and he is already complaining about 2012 asking for a 2 year protected ranking. This does not sound like a confident player or one that has got his calm back, but anything is possible as it could rain cats and dogs. Have to wait and see.
