felt my ears burning and lo and behold, here's PP talking about me. ;)

can't say i was a rabid TB guy, but yeah, i liked the crazy spin i was getting from it, altho i was never satisfied w/ the feel of it and touch on volleys, half volleys and drop shots. it's in the area of feel and touch that iontec is just off the hook while still providing very close to TB levels of spin.

interested in reading what you think!

Well, in that case I've just got to check this out then.:) In fact I may well try and get some in the next hour or so. I'm also wondering how it contrasts with the Red Hexonic PED was enthusing about yesterday...

Ross i will be able to give you an idea on the genesis as well. One thing about the hex is that it does not last past 8 hours or so. The iontec is supposed to last longer..we shall see how that goes, but im excited to try it out. Not feeling so hot today but im going to head out there and try to sweat some of this funk out on the courts.

iontec 1.20 provides more spin than 1.25 because the thinner gauge grips the ball better. if you're concerned about 1.20 17L being to thin and not durable enough, don't be. iontec resists notching. i've strung 1.25 for a bunch of guys and the only time it broke was when a guy shanked the ball at the head against a string hole w/ a cracked grommet shearing the string against the frame of the racquet. no one else has broken it under normal hitting or play.

Am I missing something? Why is there not a new 6.1 95 18x20 listed in the new Wilson frames up on TW? Are they doing away with it?

Really enjoyed the iontec. It compares to silverstring but is more plush and less crisp. It is a very comfortable poly that seems to be very kind on the arm as well. I am still battling a cold and was pretty weak out there, but i was good enough to hit big at times and the feel was nice. If you mishit, there is no real punishment with the blx, but this softens the blow even more. My biggest problem was sometimes swinging too hard because the string begs you to hit big.

I went back and forth between silver string and iontec and they both hit very very well in the blx..i would say the iontec is better for comfort, and the ss is a comfortable string as well. I am interested in seeing if the shaped version brings even more spin to the table, but my initial impressions were rather nice. Good string for wilson sticks.

Juice Pro- Racquet was strung up with what looks to be Savage Black and supposedly strung at 55lbs and weighed in at 12.2 ounces with over grip installed.

Now I don't know if it is the Ugly paint scheme (with yellow over grip installed-gross!!!), balance, dead strings or the hollow feel to this racquet in comparison to the Six one but I took an instant disliking to this racquet. I seriously felt like I was swinging a log. I agree with JGads , the Juice felt significantly heavier than the Six-one. I think this adversely affected my forehand (my main weapon) as timing was way off and I just happened to be hitting with an open level player so there is no room for error. Strangely I didn't notice the heavier swing weight on serve. I was able to hit some good heaters down the middle and my kickers had some good action. Backhands Meh?

Nice writeup, I just watched the video review and was interested.......after reading your and Gad's review, I think I'll pass though I do enjoy an xl stick and using a slight choke up on the handle for the FH.

Balanced the blxs.

One that swings a little heavier with iontec is 12.5 inches from handle to balance point.

The 320 ish sw one is 12 inches.

What does this mean? Lol. Bad at figuring balance from there.

Welcome to Wilson Qc, the 12' is 12 pts hl, the 12.5' one is 8 pts hl. What are the static weights of each stick?

The 12 pts hl one must feel super maneuverable and light.

Yes it does.

But oddly i can switch between them and my strokes feel the same. I do it all the time. The 12 pts balanced one comes through nice and fast, but the adjustment between them is rather quick.

They each weigh 11.7 unstrung.

Pp just get a slightly heavier or lighter grip to match. Don't worry about the weight matching but balance is more important and half an inch is a lot..

How is Iontec power-wise PP? What polys does it compare to? Could you contrast it with TB? THX...

String iontec low 50s. The power is very good, but it likes low tension. It compares to silver string.

It is more comfortable than tb, let me spend more time with it and ill try and compare it more.

As for balace..i am sticking the racquet handle on my table and balancing then measureing from handle to end of table. Is this correct?

I ask because when i do a sight test with both sticks hanging from a screwdriver, the balance points only seem a few pts off.

Setting up my BLX 90 today. I'm switching out the leather for a synthetic and then counterbalancing in the handle to get back to the original balance.

It's strung with a wilson syn gut, something ycore. It's fresh and it feels tight, like 60.

Anyway, I'm looking for any stringing recommendations, specifically tensions. I'm going to go with my go to Alu/NXT hybrid but I'm lost as to what tensions to try.

Is the BLX on the soft or the stiff side? Am I looking to tame the power or am I stringing low to get some more juice?

Fed, you're the resident 90 user no? Should I go mid, low or high?

Thx

if the measurement is from the butt then think the 12 1/4 is 10 pts and then the 12 would be 12 pts. (1/8 = 1 point if not mistaken)

Hey Ross and PP,

What is the problem with Tour Bite. Is it the comfort that it is the problem or are we just having some fun trying different set ups? IMO Tour Bite is still the GOAT. That being said I would love to have something that is as spin friendly, explosive, lasts as long but does not tear up softer strings in a hybrid. Not asking for much huh? I will follow your guys trials and tribulations closely :)

Ross since you started this great thread, you should really start a Diary of a stringaholic thread in the strings section

glad you had a pleasant 1st date w/ iontec yesterday. good enough to warrant a 2nd date.

TB is my go to fave string, however (and this bit is crucial for your everyday confirmed racketaholic  ), I simply like it better in some frames than in others. For example, in the PC+ Swirly, I thought TB was akin to a sacred spiritual experience... stringbed nirvana... in the N95 though, along with a few others 'diarists' I believe, I do find it a but thuddy and lacking feel - and as a BLX 95 is due to appear on my doorstep any day soon, I've been keen to hear ppls thoughts on an alternative for the 6.1.

Haha re stringaholic thread... I did do a full poly users thread, but tbh, with the likes of PED, PP, md, Meags (to name but four) and all the frame/string connoisseurs, I don't think you need go anywhere else for strings info and insightful debate.

Tour Bite plays great, but like PP mentioned, it doesn't last very long-about 10 hours for me. the other problems for me because i have a bad shoulder is stiffness. TB can aggravate my shoulder pain. additionally, TB does not play consistently through out the 10 hr lifespan. it has a 1-2 hr break in period where it feels kind of dead. after the break in period, it comes alive and feels good to right about the 6-8 hr mark. from there, the crazy spin starts to drop off and by the time i reach the 10 hr mark, the spin has gone the way of the ghost. i don't hybrid TB so i don't have problems w/ it chewing through softer strings, but i can see how it can easily do that.

Iontec 1.20 gives me great, consistent playability from the start all the way to 20+ hrs before it goes dead so i'm restringing alot less. it's easy on my shoulder. it has much better feel, gives me power and spin that is comparable to TB. and the best part, it only costs $70 for a 660' reel vs $155 for TB. so it lasts over 2x longer and costs over 50% less while being more comfortable and offering the same spin performance for me. just can't beat that.

Ross K, great post! you've described what i feel about TB perfectly. i find TB seems to work better in soon frames than others whereas Iontec (i've only tried the 1.25 in a variety of frames so far as I just got the 1.20) seems to fare pretty well in all the ones i've tried it in. :)

Makes me want to try Lux M2 Pro again as I cant remember what it was like when it came out, anyone used it?
Im still after a softer poly that is comparable with TB in spin and power to try in the Melly......?

Yeah, watched the semi-finals and finals. Pretty impressive play. Although his serve is by far his biggest weapon, what impressed me the most was his groundies, very solid. Definitely not a one trick pony!

I have the chance to pick some up at a really, really decent price (not a fake string) but have yet to pull the trigger. Is this string about to be discontinued? TW only carries it in packs at the moment-no reels. Seems like most reviews on the TW board are fairly positive. Maybe this will be my next string to try out. I would be interested to hear if anyone had a comment about this as well.

His ground strokes were a little inconsistent today but his fh is explosive, the way it was pushing tipsy back five metres behind the baseline. Wow!

I was trying to remember what my experience was with m2 pro a couple of years ago when it came out. As I recall, like all softer polys it played great initially but very quickly became uncontrollable and elastic. This is my problem with everything I've tried from rpm, pacific poly force xtreme, polystar energy etc etc is how quickly these strings become wayward.

M 2 pro like the pacific string had real nice feel, I may pick up some new packs to see how the softer poly performs in the melbourne. I've also got half a reel of solinco revolution, which is a softer, more powerful tour bite with less grip.

I have heard from another poster that M2 Pro, like a lot of Lux strings plays amazing fresh but goes down hill too quickly to be worth it's price tag. Funny you mention Revolution. I was just doing some research on this string and wondered how it compared to Tour bite as there isn't much feedback on this string. I am interested in the Iontec as well(especially the Hex) Gads and PP have peaked my interest in this string.

I used it a few times and it was ok but not worth the big price IMO. It's $15 a set versus $11 for Tour Bite. I realize you are looking for something softer than TB but I was just using it as a reference as far as quality/price.

M2 is VERY powerful and I had to ended up going up around 5lbs on my tension. I had 3 packs, I used 2 and was unimpressed enough with it to trade away my last one ;)

Ross, I'm using Hexonic at 52/50 and you could easily go lower on it. The temps are dropping here and I've got my other stick with SpinX 16 at 51/49.
I'm not losing any control and picking up some free power in the process with the low tension.

Thanks PED, yeah thats what I remember thats why I always stick to stiffish poly as its more predictable.
I always get interested in these softer, powerful strings but end up back with alu or nowadays TB.

Think i strung the iontec too low. It dropped down to 42#s and was just too tough to control. The ss has also dropped to the same tension and it was a lot easier to control. The ss may be the better string for me in this raquet, but i am going to revisit the iontec again. The ball seems to trampoline a bit off the iontec and i think that can be more controlled if i had strung it at 54#s instead of 49.

Yeah, 49 in a 95 is too low for me. I'm in the low 50's for my BC20 and I take my time stringing allowing the string tension to stabilize so the dynamic tension of my string jobs don't drop much after the expected drop of a few lbs post initial hit. Definitely worth it to experiment with the tension. Good luck.

Got super lucky with my BLX90:

So the specs are in, this is with a synthetic grip instead of leather and just an overgrip. I liked the final specs so much that I didn't bother adding weight in the handle to make up for the lighter replacement grip. However, I like having the option to do so if ever I want a more HL balance.

Weight: 352 grams - 12.4 oz
Balance: 8 pts. head light - 12.5 inches
SW: 325

I opted for a safe 53/55#'s tension of ALU Rough/NXT.

The specs are incredible. It came in lighter and with a lower SW than expected. It feels nicely balanced and swings super fast. Only down side is if I like it I'll probably never find a similar one.

The specs above mimic a BLX 85 quite closely, but with a lower static weight and less HL balance. A 90 si PS 85, bring it on!

Also, it's weird, but the 90 doesn't look that much smaller than my Prestige Pros that are supposedly 94 si. Have a look. I'd say the 90 is closer to an 92-93. Can't wait to hit the courts tomorrow am.

Although I have used Tour Bite a fair bit in softer sticks like the Exo and my Volkl's but I was wondering how it matches up in stiffer sticks? Too harsh? I would imagine it would be amazing match up in my 400 tour.

Going to restring soon and the possible candidates are:
Tour bite 16l
Poly fibre Black Venom Rough
Ruff Code
Black Magic

Really liked TB in the bc20, I strung it at 58lbs and I could really hit out and reign the ball in like it was on a string. It did with the open pattern have a sit up and hit me affect tho. In the Melbourne at first it felt a little harsh but I was tweaking specs and trying to dampen the sound of the stringbed. Ok its dropped tension now, in fact it needs to come out but it feels very comfortable and I expect it will do with a fresh string job now that Ive got the feel just right.

I think stiff string/soft racket etc is a decent parameter to work with but I think it has a lot to do with stability and vibration. For instance before I got my mods right in the Melbourne which included choice of dampener there was a harsh tinny sound coming from my stringbed and although it didnt affect me during matches it didnt feel right. Now that I have tweaked there are no such vibrations and the sound from the stringbed is a solid thud (which is my preference) and the string feels like a much softer poly.

TB 16L is the only string that works well for me in any stick. I loved it in the APDGT, PDRGT as well as my current Tec 320. The Tec stiffness and beam width is significantly lower than the Bab's but TB still works great.

I liked Black Magic alot in my YT Rad Pro as well. Looks like D Young is also using a 400 Tour.

Very brief review of the BLX 6.1 Tour 90:

Forehands: 20/10

Everything else................... meh

Honestly, this is a forehand machine, and I did feel like Federer on some inside in forehands that just leaped off the court.

On everything else though, I found it lacked some plow and the SS is pretty small. I also felt very vulnerable on my onehander.

After about 45 minutes I switched to my chunky N6.1 95 and boom, instant BEEF.

Still, super fun sexi classi stick, but it's a collector for me more than anything else.

I think you need to put the leather back on, 2g at 12 ditch the alu...the alu is overriding the delicate gumminess of the basalt. You will need more mass to compete with the chunkiness of the n95.
Been drilling my ass off, I have the new 90 and 95...the 90 is so much better the 95 will need a full pack of lead tape and frankenmods to succeed, racquet speed is greater with the 90.
Plus I hit the new pres pro, nice try head but still where is the penetration?
