Nadal's looking unstoppable

That vicious topspin assault is gonna be hard to unravel on this bouncy court. AO playing like Miami, who's gonna stop Nadal?

SPOILER ALERT (if you haven't seen the Haasdal match yet):

I think Nadal dodged a bit of a bullet today, not as far as winning goes, but as far as dropping a set. Haas was good enough to take a set and is one of the few players who matchup decently with Nadal on a tactical level. Haas still needed some more matchplay though to really get the most out of his game. Very good results for Nadal, 3 sets and a lot quicker than it could have been. And an easy round 3 coming up I think.

Federer certainly is not. But since its playing like Miami, the obvious answer would be Djokovic.

Although Nadal only lost in a 3rd set tie-breaker to Djokovic at Miami. Of course no guarantee either will play at the same level this time anyway.

I have a hunch Federer will. Federer will be well tested by Dolgo and Delpo before he faces up to Nadal. He'll be up for it THIS time.

This is unlikely. Especially if Federer has a tough match against either Dolgo/Tomic or Delpo. He has to be as fresh as a daisy if he's got any chance to beat Rafa.

Dolgo vs Tomic, talk about unorthodox....

If an alien came to earth they'd get the wrong impression of tennis if they watched that match.

Just about anyone can beat Nadal right now. He's not beating Fed even if by some miracle he makes the semi, but I think he will lose well before that. He's in horrible form and playing too defensive/passive.

Nadal looks unstoppable defeating a qualifier and a 33 y/o guy currently ranked 190th in the world who has barely played tennis in the past two years. Fascinating stuff.

Now here's something even more fascinating. Federer looks even more unstoppable because it only took him 3 sets to win TWO matches. Now try to wrap your head around that one!

No he's not. he hit 36 winners to 17 UE's today, against a good player. Hows that horrible form?

Federer was pushed to 7-5 in the first set by a guy who played his FIRST slam match. Try to make more sense next time.

There's no doubt we are witnessing peak Nadal.
Just imagine the scorelines if the Nadal hadn't become the injury of the chair...

Peak nadal is unstoppable.

Nadal doesn't look unbeatable right now, he does however look to be in good form. Nadal is going to run his body into the ground and most likely have to pull out of the ao due to his knee again

Nah, looks like pinched nerve locked his knee randomly. Whether he's playing tennis or not will make no difference. Just a fluke.

I'd rather Nadal play his natural defensive game vs an artificially cooked up aggressive mess I'm seeing so far this year!

There's still time for it to come together, but I'm not confident it will happen this tournament.

Yes of course, this enlightening tidbit of information really does wonders in terms of supporting your argument that "Nadal looks unstoppable".

Sometimes I wonder if this forum is some sort of sanctuary where all the banned members from other tennis forums congregate...

Djokovic is in the best form in tennis so until Nadal comes up with an answer to the Djoker he's just playing for second place

In 2011 Nadal breadsticked Djokovic at Wimbledon and took a set at the US Open. If Nadal takes the first set in an AO final, it won't be a given that Djokovic wins. Nadal has only ever lost one match in slams after winning the 1st set (Ferrer at US Open).

You forget that Nadal is a mental midget when he plays Djokovic.

And Djokovic played the 2010 US Open like a mental midget. Every year is different.

Agassi beat Sampras at the thrilling 2000 Australian Open sf, after looking like a mental midget for so long in their matchup.

I guess that's why you think he won't make the AO semis....

Prove to me that he isn't a mental midget these days since you seem to think he's playing great right now. I have a feeling you will have trouble digging up anything to support your believe,Bullzilla.

Nadal beating Novak on his favourite surface is unlikely to put it lightly.

Could have swore Sampras was in the USO final that year, playing Safin.

Oh I see, I didn't mean to type US Open, meant to type Australian Open.

Sampras dominated Agassi's mind for years, and Agassi overcame the mental block (at least temporarily) by beat Sampras at the 2000 Australian Open semi. Agassi did it in heart-stopping style too, winning a thrilling 4th set tie-breaker to stay in the match before winning the 5th.

It is interesting that Agassi always said "If I can get this to a 5th set, I know I will win it" when he played Sampras. He couldn't get the 1995 US Open final to a 5th set, so he lost. He couldn't get the last US Open they played to a 5th set either, so he lost (and couldn't get the no-break QF at the US either to a 5th set). I wonder if Nadal senses this too vs Djokovic. Get it to a 5th set.

Although let's not take Djokovic too seriously. He only had one great year vs Nadal, and that's why Nadal leads 16-13 and 5-2 in slam h2h.

After Djokovic, Nadal has clearly been the most dominant player in the opening rounds so far, and has a smooth ride to the finals. How he does in the finals would depend to the sort of form Djokovic carries through.

The AO is Djokovic's best surface, but that doesn't mean it favors his matchup with Nadal. The match isn't entirely in Djokovic's hands. Nadal can take the match out of Djokovic's hands if this matchup on this particular hardcourt favors Nadal. They haven't played here before.

Come on Clarky. You can't run the same joke by us over and over. You need variation, and an element of surprise.

Show some creativity, girl, or is Tushy's absence depriving you of your passion and mental strength :D That was a lack-lustre post.

Apparently, Nadal's already ordered trophy polish online, so let's all just move on to Indian Wells already, folks.

Nadal is playing better than ever. Hasn't dropped a set yet. I can't see anyone stopping him getting to the final. Would be embarrassing if it did happen.

I agree, it would feel a bit embarrassing to lose to Federer. It's been a long time since Federer beat Nadal outdoors, and even longer since Federer beat Nadal in a slam (2007!).
