And where does desire come from?Dislike and hate are poles apart in terms of emotions.
Its not an incremental set of steps to get to the latter from the former.
You have to desire to hate in the fist place.

how is it possible to hate a tiny figure on a tv screen that you barely know anything about?
Some people have an enormous apetite to hate for absolutely no reason.

It is if there are two opponents, with a lot of stress between them, they don't speak, one is sitting and run is running around giving you stares. Heck, even on the coin toss it happens. And I doubt Roger Rasheed likes Nadal. He said Nadal plays with passion, I can say that as well (and its ture). Doesn't make me any less of a Nadal hater. Your arguments are flawed.
Rafa- probably the worlds best athlete for any young sports person to watch go about his craft. Every moment is championship moment. CLASS
Desire to hate is probably a part of being a social animal.
Being hostile to Nadal is almost certainly a part of having a strong preference for Federer or perhaps Djoko.
This is why people with ghastly tennis manners who are lower ranked - Stepanek - never inspire hatred.
I'm not a Federer fan for some time now...the guy is a spineless coward, and I'm not even close to being a Djokovic fan lol, I only cheer for him when he plays Nadal, but that's it.
Religious frames of reference code the world in terms of good versus evil so its not surprising that one player must fulfil the function of 'evil'. Hence, the rhetorical exaggeration of Nadal's faults.
Nadal has said many times (and he's certainly not the only one) that the difference between the players is very small. We all know that, and of course all the players know that. It's not like us, club players, who can sometimes face opponents we have no chance of losing against or the opposite. It's a very different situation amongst the professionals, and that's why anyone can beat anyone on a given day. When he is often playing qualifiers he almost always says it will be very very tough match, no? I will have to play my best. Come on, really? That's really rather disingenuous.
If it was such a grueling point, they should conserve their energy; both players know who won. Take this forward quietly than leak exuberance which is positive energy for later. Why should one in that situation not cease to spectacularize his happiness? By this what does he gain, other than some theater for his opponent and the crowd to think about? He is a drama monger or the greatest showman on earth.
And Nadal has actually toned his celebrations down for the most part. I remember he did a sort of flying scissor kick in the vicinity of the net(they were going to the chairs) after winning a set against Fed in RG SF 2005. No freaking way would he do that today, not just against Fed, but against most guys.
Yeah but Nadal fans occasionally call Federer arrogant, so it's all even.
This is such a stupid comparison. Roddick gets a lot of heat when he acts like an *** on court, particularly in match threads. Not to mention he's been forever discredited as a player on these boards. But much unlike Nadal, Roddick doesn't pretend to be a humble fluffy rabbit. He is who he is and he's never claimed to be anything else.
Roddick has only two fans on this forum, iirc, kishnabe and rock strongo
Right, because that's about as low as Nadal fans went, please.
Let's ignore all those disparaging marks about Fed's family and him as a person over the years, insulting Novak's nationality (calling him a Balkan trash), making fun of his grandfather passing away, wishing him injury etc.
Is Nadal the most hated player on this forum recently? Yes, but that in no way means others players don't get bashed as well or that Nadal fans are innocent flowers.

Nadal doesn't like to brat in public, it's not his style. And he's prudent. If some people really hate that, it tells more about them than about Rafa, I think. Or maybe it's something cultural.
Anyway, Nadal's philosophy has always been "Let's see what happens, I'm ready to fight" (when he's the favourite and when he's not) and certainly not "I'm going to lose". Big difference.

The fact that trolls hate him is not a bad thing.
I know there are some exceptions (like nsk), but generally he's the favourite target of those who enjoy trash talking and posting hateful messages on forums.
It is only natural that people start disliking the young pretender who arrives to dislodge the emperor from the crown. I still remember how I used to hate Steffi when she started beating Martina regularly. Then came Monica who started getting the better of Steffi thereby gathering the adulation of Martina fans. Federer/Nadal story is somewhere along these lines with Sampras fans depending on Nadal to stop Federer from breaking all his records, Federer fans warming up to Djoker who is beating the pretender who bettered the Master etc etc.. The cycle continues...
Roddick do not receive much love for his antics either. And I guess you failed to notice, that he was called many times "spoiled brat".
To say, that his on court habits are way worse than Nadal's is simply laughable. Nadal actually breaks the rulles of the game. You'd better try to understand what that means, because you and the other members of the VB apparently do not know what that means (see my signature for a reference and an example of how confused you and your fellow VB members are).
But, feel free to go to your Lala land, and go on with your victim mentality, in order to be able to feel special.

I think there's a lot of truth in that, but I find the transference of hatred disturbing.

More like a gladiator taking on the emperor in the arena, and winning.
how could he not be called such a truth? His on court tactics are cringeworthy,.
Nice try! He's constantly mentioned as one people would like to see win Wimbledon or otherwise pad his major's resume.
Of course he's been called a brat, how could he not be called such a truth? His on court tactics are cringeworthy, but he's also given a pass by being called "funny" or "sarcastic" and viewed by some as "honest" and an overall nice guy.
Rule breaking such as a few seconds over time? What a crime, and what else? Oh yeah, toweling off, tending to injuries, and pouring water on his hands? These are the types of "complaints" I often seen the board riddled with, and yes, I think it's ridiculous.
Now, to the LaLa land and victim mentality comments, that only shows me what a follower you are, or you can produce those alleged comments if they in fact stemmed from your own mind rather than following posters that I consider to be very trollish in nature.
first of all, they (hoping i'm in too) are trolls because you consider them trolls, mostly because they dislike your idol. therefore they are trolls only in your perspective, therefore, considering anything related to that personal definition which is not factual, is assuming your opinion is a fact. sad ot say it is not!.
The fact is that, these days, we have a group of players at the top (top 3/4) who very rarely lose a match against average players. There are that good. But, as some strange defeats have shown, none of them is secure. I could give you examples for any player of that group of matches they lost or nearly lost. But we are talking about Nadal. If he says that Florian Mayer is a tough opponent, and that he will have to play really well if he wants to win, you will say it's a joke. Guess what? It's actually true. We had the proof last year. Nadal was also very close to lose ON CLAY last year (in Rome or Madrid) against an opponent whose name I quickly forgot. On a given day, anyone can beat anyone. Just a fact.Disagree. I think the differences between players is small only amongst the very top. And even then saying that is a bit of stretch. Proof? The consistency with which the top players continue to trounce lower ranked players. These days the early rounds in most tourneys are pretty moot.
I have no problem with people disliking "my idol". I don't like David Ferrer.
Do you see me going in every thread and calling him pathetic, faker, disgrace, etc. over and over again? In my opinion that would be trolling and many of those who dislike Nadal do just that, which is why I'm calling them trolls. But you're right. It's just an opinion.

I'd have considered your point if the neutrals didn't hate the Nadal..
What has the desire of some people to see him with the Wimbledon trophy has to do with the overall attitude of the people towards his antics and behaviour?
So, you changed your tune and admit, that he has been labelled sufficiently? But how can that be true and at the same time you claim, that he was perceived as an overall nice guy? I see, that he has been called for what he is. He is receiving the right attitude on this boards (and so is Nadal).
Maybe, just maybe, he doesn't receive that much heat, because, other than his awful attitude at some points he comes off as pretty funny guy and, on top of that, he doesn't intentionally abuse the rules to his benefit. Since you compare him to Nadal tell me what has Nadal done, to be considered as funny as Roddick?
Since you are not playing tennis I am not going to argue with you about what the time violations mean. I can certainly guarantee you, that if on the other side of the net there is an opponent, who is used to particular rules and has tuned his game to abide by the rules, there is a change of the dynamic of the game for him, because of the time wasting. I couldn't care less if you don't care, if the rules are respected. That speaks about your mentality.
But, that is the Truth. The members of the VB like to picture themselves as something special, and think, that they are some sort of the keepers of the good image of Nadal, so they "endure" all the unfairness of the board (hence the allegations, that the board is pro-Federer). The fact is, that in your Lala land (NN thread) is allowed some serious BS, and it is received with sugarcoated comments. Not to mention the childish posts of virtually every member of the VB, including you. Lala land it is.
But you can refuse to admit those facts. Be my guest.
The hatred has evolved over the years. In early years of Nadal's career (2005-2007) I noticed some bad habbits but my dilslike for Nadal remained just that. Through the years I've seen him ruin the sport, I see how kids play today (not their play style, but rather how they behave on court) trying to imitate Nadal, I see him talking trash about others, I see him lying on interviews, cheating on court, and I wouldn't mind all of it if he was ranked a lot lower, but he's #1 or #2 at most times and the amount of infulence he has is huge. I can barely watch tennis these days as the sport is ruined, and yes, I hate the guy who ruined the sport I love. I still enjoy playing the game a lot, but as for watching, I don't do that as often and if I do I carefully pick the matches I watch. Nadal has earned the hatred, it wasn't desired by anyone who hates him. There are other players whom I dislike (Stepanek for instance) but none have done as bad as Nadal and none is ranked as high as him.
No need for that now. It has served its purpose, and is more or less useless. Wait until a new up and coming potential clay court specialist from any country comes along. IF Nadal is still able to reach RG semis or finals I fully expect him to use his whole arsenal in order to do the same, that he has done to others. With that said, I do not expect, that from Spain will come any other claycourt specialist in the near future. Not until Nadal has a shot at RG.
haha, 'a humble fluffy rabbit', too good. lol
it's true tho. Roddick is who he is, no BS, like it or not (not my cup of tea but whatever) ... Nadal is always acting, pretending ... saying things he is expected to say ... just a little cheater who is pretending he is humble and sweet ...
My Dear fellow Nadal fans,
As a Nadal fan myself, I think it is abundantly clear the only reason anyone could not like our dear little Rafa is because he has a winning record over The Not so Great Man. I can not think of any other possible reason. I mean have we not all read and heard the hundreds of feel good stories Rafa's management company has released over the years. I once heard a story that the Evil Soderling was clubbing baby *******s outside a tournament venue with his racquet. Nadal and his team swooped in and were able to save three of the baby *******s, before the evil Sod got to them. Rafa took these baby *******s in and took care of them, he named one Bud, one Truth, and the third, the runt of the litter was left nameless. It is an amazing story that shows our beloved Rafa's true character.
Don't worry my fellow Nadal fans, if another fan doesn't like Rafa they are just a troll, not a member of our great ******* nation were everyone is righteous, smart, and brave like Rafa. We need to unite against these evil trolls. I suggest reporting anyone that doesn't like Rafa, and anyone that likes the hideous blue clay. We must rid the forum of these horrible individuals.
God bless Rafa, and free Gj011, we miss you.
Oh, I see, so Nadal has defeated Fed because of fist pumps.
But anyway...it's just an american thing...in Europe, both him and Fed are respected...
News flash. This "nadal hate" is just - almost 99% of it - an american thing. In europe and Asia, this does not happen.
Maybe the downhill of american tennis helps explain that.
But it should really be an eye opener. Peeople in america are not very well informed of what happens in other parts oh the world.
It's understandable. You have a big country. I've just been to the US last week, for the first time (went to an IBM conference in Las Vegas) and really loved it.

I met many people when I was in prison: thieves, murderers, extortionists, pimps, pushers (not the tennis kind), con men, arsonists and jaywalkers.
I can honestly say I'd shake hands with any of them before I would Nadal.

hopefully you will see that by calling others Trolls for disliking your idol or using excessive "adjectives", you are just like them - me included as i will have no problem in using adjectives to define that person who i find to be a disgrace for tennis in many ways, despite the hatred i receive from the Nadal camp for not agreeing with them - and no better than, by your definition "a troll"

He is not well liked in Canada. And we're definitely 'well informed' compared to the states and even europe. It has nothing to do with american influence either, since the media doesn't say anything bad about nadal.
