PED,

I blame you for the content of this post....

I demoed the IG Rad Pro, yy200, Bio Max 200, and BLX Prostaff 16x18 over the past week. All were great racquets, very different from my Black Drive+. They all had good feel and I played well with each one. I get into these moods where I like to demo and this was one of these occasions. I normally play with the same racquet for a few years and just demo to really fall back in love with the racquet I'm playing with. However, this time was different.

Hit with the Wilson and loved the volleys, but liked my BD+ better on everything else. The Dunlop was nice, but it's no MW200G and the feel was very off (the poly in this racquet was terrible!). The yy200 is a great hit, very plush. But, I've never clicked with yonex frames. It reminded me of the RD7 I hit with 10+ years ago but I again like my BD+ much better.

Then came the IG Rad Pro. This thing is fantastic. Controllable power and feel are the two things that stand out. I felt like I could swing out and have pinpoint accuracy. It is one of the best hits for me in years. Babolat frames are good for my game, but the feel is not always the best. This IG Rad Pro had it all. The amazing thing too was that the serve was huge with this frame. I couldn't pound it as hard as I do with my BD+, but I served bigger then I have with any other standard racquet. I'm resisting the urge to buy this frame as I type this just now.

I'm going to try and talk myself out of switching frames. I've become accustomed to extended sticks and the raw power of the BD+. It serves the best out of any stick I've ever used and my serve is my greatest attribute. However, the IG Rad Pro performed so wonderfully and had such great accuracy. I'll probably end up with one in a few weeks.....

Oh no, I shouldn't have read this, as only yesterday I was wondering about this frame and checking out vids from the likes of TT and other review sites. :)

Given my recent mood and thoughts, given my past love of Head MPs, if it's solid, has good feel, swings sweetly, has good control and accuracy, decent spin and - crucially - a tad more oomph than the YT Pres Pro, I could be very interested to check one out.

This IG Rad Pro had it all.

Payback is hell....lol since you're the reason I went to the Bab apdgt + back in 2010:twisted:

I thought you might really like the IGRP: the perfect marriage of oomph and feel.

I've got 16g Tour bite in one of mine now and it really firms up the whole hoop. Not as much easy pop as with the 16L TB but very nice.

You youngsters ha.....its always been about flex, you're just finding out what us fogies have known for some time.....better for the arm, better feel, infact more dwell, more feel, better control....more dwell, more feel, more controllable power.

You are right man.

And to add for me this formula always seems to work :

stiff racquet - soft string setup

Flexy racquet - crisp string setup

Just put my 89t over an APD Im stringing (ive got it for a week so I'll have a hit), tbh not much in it........

Yes he truly does. And I see why..it plays awesome in flexy sticks. I use cyberflash since I like it better (lasts longer). The spin is honestly pretty vicious. This is most likely a 6 hour stringjob..maybe 8..but if you string up 3 sticks with it you can easily rotate and have this awesome feel and playabilty while only spending $6 a job.

the yy 200 gives me so much spin, that a poly main is a waste and not needed. Gads had the same experience. So I opt for feel and touch, and of course the ultra loud cracking sound that a crisp setup has is a nice bonus.

Im going to rock this setup a little longer and if I still love it, a reel of OGSM is $35. That's ridiculous..$89 sticks and $4 string jobs..that is my idea of doing it right!!!

Indeezy. And yeah, that Rad Pro is the lone stick I still wonder about. As it's about the lone stick I haven't demoed and I like the swingweight and flex potential. Obviously, it seems I've tried absolutely everything else at this point.

And Meaghs, healthy lead along the upper hoop of the 89 - dude you are a beast.

yeah its funny because I have pretty much tried about everything. I am trying to save $$ for once on tennis since I am burning though gut right now in the humid summers. It is a lot easier when you have a setup that plays awesome and is easy on the arm.

The summers are brutal here. Even the stock yy200 can even get kind of heavy after a while due to the intense heat, so I doubt the tour series is going to get a run from me.

And Meaghs, healthy lead along the upper hoop of the 89 - dude you are a beast.

I am constantly amazed by modification. My initial feeling for the balance and sw was, this thing feels heavy in the head and swings nicely. I modded, 5g of foil tape in hoop 4g of dense lead top of handle, after playing i reduced it to 4g in the hoop, my pick up was a touch laboured. I recieved my second 89 and decided to tweak. I noticed that my modded racket swung easier than stock. I also noticed that whilst adding weight to the hoop i forgot to add to the handle, this had negligible affect on balance but proved to make the lighter stick rather cumbersome. On realising my error i add the weight back to the handle and im amazed at how easily it swings again. My last mod was to see whether the dense lead set up at 10,12&2 similar to my dnx mid set up would improve upon my foil tape. Keeping the same spec i was amazed again to find that i gained more manouverability than the previous foil tape set up.

It just goes to show that tweaking and being aware of its affect can make a huge difference. My set up now with more static and sw actually is an easier stick to use than stock. So as for 'beast' i'll take that ha but the muscle presides mainly in my head and my cognitive approach.

I have to say that I am equally fascinated that the 200 really needs no mods after you get used to it. Gads and I tried different lead tape configs and nothing really did much to improve the stick. I did like lead at 12 the most since it added plow, but even that was not needed. This is truly a "timing" stick. As long as you hit relaxed and with good timing, it does everything you could want at stock weight.

And then other sticks just take so well to lead that its like they were meant for it. The PK7g with that 9 pts balance, just begged for lead at 12 for example.

What makes you want to try new rackets ?

I know for sure I am one, but it's like I need something to get excited about playing or something to get excited about "getting back on the horse"...

I'm playing the best tennis of my life and b/c I'm 0-3 (all very tight matches, could be 3-0), it's like I have to go find "an answer" for why that is...

Meanwhile I made it to the semi's of the second to highest level in the city this past spring (with the Prestiges).

I need to stop changing /buying rackets to overcome losses.

Meanwhile, I love the stiffness of the 90s/6.1s/85, but I need something between the wilsons and the Prestige MP. Any thoughts.?

It's a mix between a genuine love of feeling the differences between different frames and how they can affect your shot and game, along with genuine stupidity.

And by the way, that IG MP, if you're playing well with it and it's feeling good - I know the highs of it and still think it's a stupendous frame. Curious, where are your 10 grams of lead? I got caught in lead hell with the IG MP, never able to match the swing/balance of my demo frame, and gave up. It still haunts me because I know how good that frame can be. Amazing stick when it's just right.

I think that can be some of it.

Also injury for me has been a key factor.

I love having consistency though. I think inconsistency is maddening in tennis.

Have you tried the vcore 95? I love the fed frames but I simply cannot go back...I can strike the ball with the same confidence but more pace...with leather grip and full poly it is a supercharged ps85.

The prestige is too weak for me. Or vice versa....

Thanks fellas. Good stuff.

I feel like I can be consistent and play defense all day with the Prestige, but when I want some power, it's not there - like it is with the Wilsons. Certainly something as simple as a full multi wouldn't help would it ? I seem to get more pop out of a hybrid. But I wouldn't want a multi to make me gun-shy.

BTW, I put the weight in the butt cap. I know have one with weight in the butt and one without. :-|

Two things make me search for new frames.
1st, is the simple "it hurts too much to use" situation which sadly was the case with the Vcore 95d.
2nd and far more common is the weather here, when i'm not playing i am far more likely to be here reading about things thinking, "oh that looks nice"..........

65 is where the prestiges are though. The rads are flexy. They are old school feeling base lining sticks designed for Agassi back in the day. He always used flexy sticks. His donnay felt incredible..it was just rather low powered, but what a cool stick it was. To make the radical stiff would take way the magic. It is a stick for the baseliner with more advanced strokes and who likes to really feel the ball on his stick..a la Agassi.

agree. anyone know just how flexy agassi's frame was?

from hitting with a couple now, and from what I was reading on the boards, seems like one constant in so many of these pro stock layups for the pros is that they're all a bit flexy.

also, it's always crazy to me when they do those super slo-mo shots of players swinging through the zone and to see the total wobble of the frame -- Fed's frame wobbles like crazy on contact. not sure if that's how most of the frames wobble but his always seems a little more pronounced to me during those slo-mo shots.

I was talking to a few pros and they said it just is so much easier on the arm especially if they use full poly. They are hitting and absorbing so many heavy balls, and their technique is so dialed in that the flex is an added advantage for them. Even rafa is more at 65 and so is roddick with their babolats. A lot of the pros Babs are softer than retail.

It makes sense..I played one of our pros in doubles and he was firing some big serves at me. As long as I got a racquet on it, it felt so good to return them and just guide them where I wanted. No jarring or vibrating at all even if I didn't hit clean.

Once again the courier setup delivered for me..I'm total loving it in this racquet. Perfect match.

Jack, JG, PP,

So, just how flexy is that Rad Pro?! Could people please describe it in fuller detail.

Actually, one of the most unique frames for soft flex I ever played was the Rad Tour Twin Tube. Any of you ever hit with that one? A great frame IMO.

All,

With a certain proviso, today should provide a good (and rare) opportunity to see quite where I stand with my silver/red Pro No 1 later... Can I really handle this frame? Does it really suit me, when most similar-ish-type player's frame, though I do love them, are undoubtedly a bit too advanced for me (the PT630, PSC 6.1, and Prestiges immediately springs to mind)?...

Anyhow, versus a good player (and I'm hoping to be able to contrast with my APDO more directly), today should be illuminating... as long as (here's that proviso, folks) - as long as it doesn't do what it has in fact been doing here in London for months, and RAIN  ... even by our standards of grim weather, England this year is on a different, wetter and milder level altogether.

Funny, as I was talking with a friend this morning describing a doubles match my 4.5 team had a few weeks ago. After losing the 1st set and being down 1-0 in the 2nd, one of the opponents proceeded to "pull a Baghdatis" and broke all 5 of his frames, one after another.

They defaulted the match...

Played yesterday at 8 PM with the VCORE 100. I played pretty inconsistent, couldnt dial in my topspin strokes and had trouble with the lightness of the frame in terms of timing my strokes. Today the 100 did not feel that well with Pro Line 2 at 55. The strings have like 5 hours of playing time but the stringbed felt stiff.

At 11 pm, sitting in the family room and somewhat dissapointed (no tears at least, lol), I put the VCORE 100 in the bag and took out the unseparable Aeropro. Put the new, squared, red Bab dampener and a white grip. Will string the APD next week with Polyfibre TCS, one of the softest polys around, will string at 55.

Will play today at 6 with the APD, hope it goes better!

Technically the Rad Pro is 62 flex. For me it just felt too soft..may have been the strings, but I need a little crispness on top of that plush feel to really like a stick. I get that with the yonex, even though it is in the same category.

Have to say this is the best I have volleyed in a long time. the balance definitely helps me there. Also had a nice overhead that went over the fence off the bounce. Forehand winners are seriously automatic now. If the ball sits up in my zone, I put it away. Definitely grooved into this racquet with the string setup and stock weight.

Haha great stuff Rossy......more details are required, you should know by now :)

Well, you know I mysteriously alluded to 'another frame'...

Pro No 1 is amazing - feel, build, all court, bla bla - but for me, sadly, it wasn't as good a fit from the b-line as my APD/O...

APD/O has such easy blasting power that from the backcourt I'm more in my element, but having played around with the stunning quality Pro No 1, it felt... it felt like it bloody rattled and was toy-like and flimsy and bla bla bla...

And so to the mystery frame...

Pulled out my old PC+ Swirly and proceeded to enjoy it more and probably play better arguably than with the previous two... I most of all appreciated the stability, better accuracy and control (than the APD), and general b-line brilliance... but with its substantial heft, I know from past experience that it's probably too much to be a realistic primary frame.

My muddled thoughts right this moment are to actually look again at those Swirly PDs+ I have... I'd drop some weight from the PC+, as well as gain some serve wallop... okay, the build quality and other aspects I so appreciate in the Pro No 1 may be lacking by comparison, but, I've long suspected XL may be the way I should go. And as well as serve prowess, I think there's a bit more 'body' to these plus-size Babs...

I don't know. I need a cup of tea...

To me the Rad Pro just felt weird. FOR ME, it was flexy but not in a comfortable way. It seemed flexy and stiff at the same time (I know that makes no sense). Maybe it's the d30 stuff. I haven't been able to get comforable with any of the youtek versions (though the IGs are a little better). The microgel versions where easier to use and more comfortable imo.

EDIT: It is very possible that my string set-up had a lot to do with my unsuccesful trial of the IG Rad Pro. Plus the fact that I didn't give it much of a chance. Balance and sw were not comfortable for me either.

Power, I don't feel like searching for it... what is your set up again (Courier I believe)? strings and tension? I think a full bed of poly (TB17) in the 95d may be too stiff. Felt some elbow tenderness already.

Ive mentioned it before but a leaded up Pure Storm may do the trick. When I had the PST and PC there was not a lot in it, I though Bab had done a cracking job of the GT's, the original was a bit flexy, although serving was super with them. I think you can make the Storm a proper beast as it comes in at 312 strung, you would have 30 or so grams to play with, creating the PC you want without the unweildy heft......

The 95D may be the culprit on the elbow BC. It sure bugged mine. Its that stiff top area of the hoop.

Anyway, my setup probably won't help much..its more for a flexy stick.

Og Sheep Micro 16 at around 58#s crossed with Topspin Cyberflash at 54#s. Really, really great setup for me.

I don't think the 95D is for you based on your posts. Its more for guys who hit flatter, come from a heritage stick like a Pro staff and grew up playing tennis.

You may be right, but to be honest I was one of those guys who grew up playing with a heavier stick and hitting flat. I've just been toying with all the new modern tweeners since I got back in the game after a 20 year break. I try to convince myself that I got a topspin game, but I don't. That's why I've had a hard time being consistent with the PDs and APDs. Maybe I just needed to go back to my roots.

Anyway, time will tell. Right now I am loving the 95D, played with it again and liked it even more. I am playing better then I have in many months, and I can definitely attribute that to the racquet.

Question, would adding a little lead at 12 in the hoop make it stiffer and harder on the arm, or would it somehow make it easier on the arm by possibly increasing plow through and less bounce back/vibration when hit high in the hoop?

Thanks

My wife and I are expecting another child!!! Hopefully it will be a boy.... I'm gonna keep trying until I have a son. It's not as if the process is displeasing. ;) It's the aftermath that worries a bit.

My cousin had 2 girls. He went for the boy and got twins- GIRLS. Now he has a wife and four daughters. Will he go for the boy? Dont think so.:)

In your case, hope your wish comes true and you get the boy. If not, youll be the king of the house.

^ Oh yeah.

I buy dinosaur toys and Ninja Turtles because I can't stand to see naked barbies and stuffed pink things all over the floor all the time. Leonardo is married to Barbie btw. And tv?!?!.... I have 'dora the explorer', 'sid the science kid' and 'between the lions' theme songs eternally stuck in my head.

It's their house (wife and daughter's), I'm just a guest with privileges.

^ I do.... and true blood. My wife loves them. :( Thinks every vampire guy is hot. She records them on the dvr, then spends 'our' weekday evenings affixed to the tv.

I just sit with the laptop on the couch, next to her with some head-phones on. In my own world.
