Cormier vs. Mir should be a good fight. I'd put my money on The Black Fedor.
Heard this is the final Heavyweight fight for StrikeForce. The title will be retired and Cormier will join the UFC.

I wonder how many countries a sport would have to have traction in to even be considered. I doubt there are currently enough. One thing for Dana to take it on the road - another to have fighters in enough countries. Baseball and softball were taken out - not enough interest AND the US medaling too much.
MMA is already a global sport. That's not the issue. The fighters would not be able to compete multiple times in a few weeks' span.
Let the latest Martial Arts medal winners bring interest to MMA when they turn pro. Creates a great story. Think of Rhonda Rousey.
Well it works with boxing aswell, hopefully it can do the same.
I wonder if they would even be allowed? They're under contract, i'm sure various organisations wouldn't be too pleased letting their stars risk injuries at the Olympics, especially with several fights in a short time period.
No comments on the Fox card over the weekend? Bader got impatient and walked into a right. Rua clobbered Vera; Vera must have forgotten his wrestling skills - hard to believe he could get taken down that often. I admire his courage - but this fight IMHO is just another example of his limitations - just can't hang with the top guys.
And while it's easy for Dana White to say Machida was more impressive and gets the title shot, I would have rather seen Machida - Rua III first at the end of Dec. Then the winner could fight Jones in April or May.
No. Viewership doesn't matter. Participation does - and it's not 'global' in that regard. The top fighters are from a handful of countries. Forget the brutality, the IOC isn't going to add any sports that don't have elite fighters from a large number of countries. MMA might get there someday; not there now.MMA is already a global sport. it never will make it. Try asking guys that are fighting now to fight for an entire week. Its to much. Imagine having to come back after a fight like Machida vs Shogun 1. Neither guy had anything left after that.
Or take on Chael Sonnen win and have to come back. Your drained and exhausted so your tourny is over. The sport doesnt lend itself to Olympic style competition. You cant fight again and again.
The Boxing,Judo, TKD are not the same in that they can modify time and rules to make it less brutal you cant do that with MMA and keep it MMA.
This makes Royce Gracie's UFC accomplishments incredible.
UFC 151 is off! Jones wouldn't fight Sonnen (even though he'd been training and Sonnen hadn't). Dana White is p*ssed! Allegedly Jones will fight Machida in Sept in Toronto.
I have a huge case of mixed emotions. Jones should have fought - Sonnen hadn't been training and was moving up a class while Jones was in camp. But Hendo was probably going to fight a different style - so Jones was preparing for a different fight.Dana White did look pretty upset, understandably so.

And if DW had to cancel the whole show, that's an admission he failed at his job - putting a good show together. And by giving Jones the Sept. fight, DW has shown that the top stars really run the show and can call their shots.
All true, on such short notice I don't think Dana White could of won either way. I think Sonnen and Jones would be worthy of a main event, so can understand why he wanted that to take place. Jones obviously was expecting to fight someone else, so last minute changes to a title defence aren't great.
As you say, the top stars probably do call the shots and maybe letting him choose his opponent would be too far, but you can argue giving him the choice of turning it down is pandering to his needs too.
Ultimately it's the fans who lose out anyway, it will be a gap of around 6 weeks since 150 I think? That's pretty big.
UFC will make up for the apparent drought with 4 events in 4 weeks starting with UFC 152 9/22.
Is Jones scared he couldnt beat Sonnen? He should destroy that guy. Take the fight and get paid. I dont understand how he does not take that fight. I dont see how Sonnen gets past the 2nd round. Hes got zero striking and Jones should be able to stuff takedowns against a much smaller guy.
The only neg is that there simply wasnt enough time for Sonnen to go into full trash talk mode.
Maybe Sonnen just rubs Jones the wrong way
So why wouldnt he want to KO his arse and make a million bucks.
To keep Chael from earning a million fafillion gadzillion bucks and yucks.
Anderson Silva offered to fight at Lt Hvy to save the card? Bad news for the Undercard, they gotta eat. Bones taking bread out of their mouths and pockets. Rent due on the 1st.
I agree with everything except the self-abuse in the last para. Dana White needs to put better shows together AND if Jones refuses to fight, suspend (or drop him) - Jones needs UFC as much as it needs him. Jones needs to grow a set. I'll bet if his camp had said "another half mil + make it a non-title fight" White would have agreed.Ya right: http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/8/2...ar-the-record-ive-never-turn-down-a-mma-fight
Also, Machida turns down the fight, Shogun turns down the fight, and Vitor Belfort, another 185'er steps up. I guess since Sonnen lost his last fight and Vitor won his, he's in.

I'm just disgusted with everyone. They make me sick. Dan Henderson training too hard, Jon Jones being a big whiny crybaby goon, Dana White being a hysterical incompetent schmuck; it all makes me want to puke in my cheerios. What a giant cluster**** of incredible proportions! Get it together people! I'm fat, lazy, and way too useless to find something productive to do with myself and I want to be entertained!
I'm so mad I could curl up on the ground right now and hold my breath until I turn blue and pass out and then hopefully go into convulsions to seriously alarm any random people that happen to witness my display of uncontrollable disgustedness.
If Sonnen can't beat washed up Forrest, he should retire. Younger and faster with great wrestling. Unless Forrest got a lucky timed punch or knee in I assume there would be a whole lot of Sonnen on top beating his face in. If A Silva couldn't avoid the takedowns, Forrest certainly couldn't.I guess Sonnen is still going to fight Forrest though. Forrest is huge for 205 so we will see what Sonnen can do. But Sonnen does train with guys who have historically not had a problem going against bigger guys.

But A Silva isnt 235 lbs. Ive never been a fan of Forrest, he probably got the most out of not much talet than anyone I can think of. He has no world class skills unless you call cutting weight a skill. I guess Forest is setting his legacy up to be the guy from TUF and losing to middleweights
But I agree Sonnen should win and I think he will. But the size of forrest is a resonable one. Chale might gas quicker than usual and get subbed liek hes known for from time to time.
+1. He was a Vegas cop before UFC - beating up handcuffed guys, drunks, and the homeless. But channeling his anger in the octagon against guys his own size and getting his share of beatings - and losing his manhood against A Silva, seems to have humanized him....he probably got the most out of not much talet than anyone I can think of...

I guess I'm out of the loop, but is there a possible bout between Forrest and Chael? I really think Chael should focus on beating top guys in his own weight class for a potential long-term rematch against Silva. I'm getting tired of these "freak" matches just to pit 2 "names" against each other. FWIW, I think Forrest can beat Chael easily.
Lastly, you've got some good points WCA. Forrest definitely doesn't seem to be the same fighter he was 5 years ago. I believe Forrest was a police officer in Georgia, though he might have also served in Vegas too. I know he's trained quite a bit there.
