Nice call on the double tap. I also love the shortcut to slide so the camera comes up.

The headphones sound good. They are extremely comfortable. For cheaper phones they are very good. If you need phones to have in while you run or lift weights, they are perfect. It also sounds great when on the phone. They are not going to be competing with high level headphones, but for free with the phone they are awesome.

I've had my S3 for 2 weeks now. I'm an Apple fanboy as well. Ipodtouch, ipad2 and the newest iPad.

Wife and daughter replaced their iphone4......piece of crap with the new 5. We test against each other all the time opening up different websites. I have no idea what PP is saying about opening up Facebook being slow on a droid. We all 3 hit the FB icon at the same time and it is nearly identical. Sometimes my S3 is a half second faster, sometimes the 5.

I love the quickness of having a back and menue button for convenience. I also love having additional removable sd card. My battery life is extroidinary. I can also remove it! I love the larger screen, the 5 just looks odd to me, like it should be wider. Both are great phones for sure.

I also love the widgets. I am using a 3d ocean theme, yeah...you can't do that....

I had a DroidX which I loved, and used beyond its two-year contract. Still have it as my emergency go-to phone. Unfortunately, the screen had developed some LCD leakage, so I was waiting to see if the iphone 5 wowed me enough to (a) switch to iphone with contract (b) pony up extra $30 every month for Verizon's price-gouging Share Everything plan (c) convert my unlimited data plan to the stupid 2GB/month plan even at the higher price.

Having seen the specs of the iphone 5, I am not wowed enough to agree to pay the extra money every month. I am sure that more than half the fun of the iphone is in its ease of use, and beautiful screen, and have yet to meet anyone who does not like their iphone.

So, I purchased a used Droid Incredible 2 from ebay. That way, I get to continue with my unlimited 3G plan at the old price, and have a world-phone for my travels abroad. Still getting used to HTC Sense. I lean ever-so-slightly towards having a customizable snappy phone rather than a predictable easy-to-use device. The Inc2 is a good phone, but its signal reception and GPS reception is noticeably weaker than the DroidX. No dropped calls, but I can see the signal fluctuate. The biggest change from my DroidX, is that this thing boots up in 5-6 seconds flat on the Fast Boot option, that's completely ridiculous - I had never seen a smartphone boot that quickly and I like it.

Regarding the S3 versus iphone 5, I consider both to be excellent phones, and would love to use either of them were it not for the unjustified expense of having a new phone or a new contract. It is funny to see people arguing with religious fervor about one being better than the other.

well after you actually spend some time with it i'll be waiting for your input.
i generally don't like the Droid software hassle. a big downer.

After about 30 hours give or take I've gone back to my iPhone 5. I just hate the Android system. There is just somethings that I can't stand. iOS is just so smooth & fluid. It runs like a dream and is very consistent. Even a brand new GS3 lags which is absurd to me. Guess I need to face it, I'm and iPhone guy and I'm ok with that. It works for me.

Funny, I find the opposite. No idea on the lag, I find the apple iOS to restrictive.

Polaris...yes...I got zapped with the Verizon all share plan rip off as well. I'm paying extra for 4gb. Now I'm switching to wifi whenever I can to reduce data usage...ugh. I also had the DroidX for 2 and a half years. Great phone as well.

Yes, switching to wifi at home is a good idea. It sucks having to pay more for limited data. I wonder: you are probably not being ripped off too much because I'm guessing that you are sharing the data with your wife and daughter. I calculated that the Share Everything bullshit becomes somewhat reasonable for the customer when you have 3 or more devices. For anything less than that, the customer is being ripped off.

Anyway, between your S3 and your family's iphone 5, you've got both awesome phones covered. Nice situation to be in :).

My wife and I chose unlimited 3G over limited 4G. We have both completed our 2-year contracts, so we are now on month-to-month plans and resolutely refuse Verizon's deceitful "We want to reward you with an upgrade" BS. Unbelievably, she still insists on using her original Droid - that phone is a goddamned survivor! :)

I timed droid s3 and my i5 tonight on facebook. My i5 won by over 4 seconds. If you dont know what i m saying, read any benchmark or i can link you to multiple reviews that back my opinion. My buddy was laughing at how fast it was. Your droid will lag just like every droid does. I am speaking from over 3 years of experience.

Honestly it is not even a contest. And i will post my screenshot of my battery life as well tomorrow just to prove how good that is. Im on almost 7 hours of usage and over 1 day with no charge and it is at 31%. I will post that screenshot tomorrow.

I dont care what anyone buys. But if you want the fastest phone possible with the best battery, it is the iphone 5..please prove me wrong because im a tech guy at heart and i have no allegian to one company. There are multiple benchmarks to prove that, but i will post my battery screenshot and end that debate as well. What fascinates me is how someone could think otherwise. I think windows and apple will phase out droid within 4 years.

Exactly. Its just how it is. The droids lag. I watched it happen tonight and we all laughed about it. The s3 is an excellent phone, but it is simply not as fast as the i5. I have never read one review that says otherwise, and my personal experience shows a very big gap as well.

Lets see what the new lumia brings to the table.

most important thing about Lumia is that the OS is new, has many disadvantages of app programing, and will take a about a year to develop apps and proper support.

Windows is not slated to blow up for a few years, but it will happen. Honestly, leaving droid phones is such a dramatic difference for me that i can not imagine that others will not have the same experience.

The only reason i am this adament about the apple is because it really delivers the speed and battery life that most people need for day to day usage. Im not even going to charge mine,.,i will let it sleep again..then take a screen shot and show you all the battery life of this thing tomorrow. Honestly it is hilarious how good it is. I will get 30plus hours out of it before i have to charge.

Amen...

thanks for the honest comparison.

P.P. is obviously a fanboy and can't even see it

Anyone who makes the Iphone 5 their screen pic before even using it  would most likely not dare be objective regarding its shortcomings.

And the 5's screen does look ridiculously odd! Apple legnthened it but kept the same width , makes absolutely no sense. iPhone 5 users cannot watch true HD video!

10 or breakage..

And ill hit 30 plus on my iphone with no charge. Proof to come ;)

The battery life really is great. I'm currently sitting at 8.25 hours of usage and 24 hours standby, and I'm still at 11% battery. Even heavy usage with video, etc. and the phone will last for a long long time.

Very similar. I am at 12%, 38 hours standby and 8.5 hours usage.

I will post a pic when it winds down to 5% or so later on.

This thing is awesome. I welcome any other phone users to post their battery screenshots off of one battery cycle.

The retina screen is so sick on this iphone that when i go back to my ipad2 i get a little bummed..lol. And the ipad 2 is a very good looking tablet.

PP, I'm sure it's a great phone, and I really want your honeymoon phase to last for several years, but let us have some realistic perspective. The only reason you are getting 30 plus hours from it is because
(1) Your usage is quite lightweight. Not a bad thing at all, but it factors into your battery life is all I'm saying.
(2) IOS has a crippled version of multitasking. This matters very little from a usage point-of-view, but technically this aspect of IOS is inferior to android, and provides the illusion of longer battery life.

Iphone 5's battery is 1440 mAH. This is puny by android standards. The Droid Razr Maxx has a 3300 mAH battery. Motorola gets an awful rap for their clunky user interface, but their phones are amazing with respect to call quality, battery life and durability. Heck, even my 1.5 year-old HTC Incredible 2 has a 1450 mAH battery.

I say this as someone who loves Apple devices, uses them heavily (Macbook Pro, Ipad 3) and will continue to do so for a long time to come: Basically, almost none of the iphone 5's technical capabilities can hold a candle to the more powerful androids. That is not Apple's goal at all, and they don't even try to beat the android phones on technical specifications. However, the iphone wins by a long margin on user-friendliness, predictability and the marriage of hardware and software design.

DRII said:

I wouldn't go so far as to say that it is ridiculously odd, but yes, it looks kinda strange from a design point-of-view. Before all the photos of the iphone leaked out, I was fantasizing that Apple may come out with a phone exactly the same size as the iphone 4s, but without a home button, and an intelligently hidden speaker that would give it a larger screen :). Now that would have been quite awesome!

Posting a screen shot of your battery life is useless. Thats not a comparison at all. Perhaps I am streaming videos or music more than you, or on web sites that eat more data. You don't even have flash working. The only way to compare battery life is to turn both phones on...side by side and continually loop movies until the batteries die.

The 5 is a great phone, but geez...PP you act like its the most amazing thing on the planet. Check withCnet or other websites, they don't agree with you. Also, funny how Apples CEO backtracked, admitted the apple maps suck and told customers their best bet is to GOOGLE..GOOGLE MAPS! Too funny...silly I sheep.

Oh, and my wife and daughters 5's....look like little toys next to my S3. Odd shaped as well...like a little tube.

Well since I had the OneX droid which competes with the S3 I feel I have perspective here. I see the S3 all the time as 2 friends have one, and one is selling his for an iphone.

I dont really care what Cnet says because I owned the best droid phone and it is not even a comparison. Even the droid guys in here admit Cnet is not the best review source.

Here we go again with the sheep comment. It's hilarious.

I'm a sheep because I had the best droid and it is afar laggier and gets a lot worse battery life with the same usage as my I5? ok...lol.

The multitasking comment is HILARIOUS. The HTC I had has the worst multitasking I have ever seen and HTC says they dont see the need to fix it. It is terrible. Go ahead and google that. I love how ios works because - it saves battery life..crazy!!

I am not sure what light usage is, but the whole thing about iphones being puny etc has been my point all along. The iphone5 has benchmarked to be the fastest phone on the market so ask yourself, does it matter what is inside? It is just a testament to iOS being the best mobile OS.

So in terms of holding a candle, look at the benchmarks posted multiple times throughout this thread. It is incredible how beefed up the droids are yet the OS and the stupid interfaces overlayed by other phone companies just ruin it.

I know nobody here truly likes Touchwiz or Sense overlayed over their droid OS..i mean let's be honest here.

Plus I have no carrier logo pasted on my phone..or bloatware in my phone..nothing. That is how it should be.

Ill pull out my trump card - racquet tune app ;)

But in all seriousness, amazing app..get it if you have an iphone.

You are speaking as a user. I am speaking as an engineer. As I said, if you don't care about IOS's "limited" multitasking, then no worries, more power to you. Just wanted you to see why you are seeing the results you are seeing. As I said, I like Apple devices, it's just that I don't have the extreme view of "IOS versus the droids" that you seem to have. In general, there are no free lunches: All else being equal, if your device is doing exceptionally well at something, then it is usually giving up on something else.

BTW, HTC does not do the multitasking. It only "skins" the phone. The multitasking is baked into the android OS.

The iphone5 has benchmarked to be the fastest phone on the market so ask yourself, does it matter what is inside?

To a user? No.
To a nerd? Yes. I am a nerd :) .

I like Sense. Many people do. The point is that you can configure launchers to your heart's content on an android phone. Not so for an IOS device. Again, if you're not the tinkering kind, this won't matter to you. I am the tinkering kind, so it matters to me.

I've decided to get an iPhone 5 when my Samsung Galaxy S2 contract is up for renewal next year.

Not because I think its significantly better - the S3 / iPhone5 are as good as each other in my view - but because having had a lifetime of PC/Microsoft/Android, I actually do miss the 'Apple experience' so fancy a bit of a change.

My only Apple device at the moment is a clickwheel iPod which has just been great in every way and actually prefer it to the touchscreen versions. Think I need some more 'Appleness' in my life.

If the boot was on the other foot and I had owned an iPhone 1-4 previously, I'd probably be choose an S3.

Variety, spice of life, and all that.

Yes and as I have said throughout, the droid appeals to folks like you, and it makes total sense. Nothing wrong with that.

I rooted, Romd..etc and to be honest I hated it. It was always something..update this..download this app to install a new Bootloader..etc..I realized I need a phone that is reliable, super fast and looks great.

You are correct, I am speaking as a user for sure. I will be the first to admit I love simplicity in tech even though I can build a PC on my own and do many nerdy things.

Dont think my views are that extreme in all honesty. I have IOS vs Droid because that is all I have used for the past 3-4 years.

I think other phones will come out to challenge ios, but I dont believe droid is there yet for the user.

Sense is actually pretty good. But there are also many different type of 'launchers' so if you don't like Touchwiz for example you can replace it with something else to your hearts content.

One thing i am noticing is how much better the email is on ios. Sense just sucked with outlook and the gmail app was counterintuitive. The main thing i hated was the look of the emails that had html.

So i basically just use the apple mail app for outlook and gmail and it works flawlessly.

Thought i had an issue with push email, but it is working exactly how i wanted it.

No worries. I understand, of course. Have fun with the device. When all is said and done, it is a beautiful thing to own, so you should derive the most possible enjoyment from it. My issue is just when people (on both sides) go beyond "This is awesome!" to assert "This thing rocks and that thing sucks." :)

Yes I agree. Just coming from Droid I am stunned at how much easier I jive with the iphone as Mikeler said. Also knew I would love the phone, but didnt expect such a fast responding device with such a deep and rich screen. That is the only way I can describe this screen.

And gmail search is a little off on iOS. You have to make sure you select all when you do a search or it just looks at the sender and you never find anything. I agree with that.

It will be great, I'm sure. I'm never seen a crap Apple device. I'll get TomTom to sort out the mapping issue and hope that during the lifetime of my contract, they introduce their interpretation of widgets / live tiles. If they don't, then its S4 come next renewal time! ;-)

PS. Actually, I did have a question - the iPhone 5 does have hotspot tethering doesn't it? ie it can act as a Wifi hotspot?

Yes, it can. Some carriers charge extra for you to use it. Others (AT&T Mobile Share and Verizon Share Everything) offer it at no extra charge. Note that you will drain your monthly data quota when you use the feature.

Been using an andriod for the past three years. Admittedly, my last andriod phone wasn't the "smartest" of smart phones out of the box, which arguably might skew the andriod influence. Regardless, the few other andriod phones I've demo'd in the past year as loaner phones were great, including the Galaxy S II and the HTC incredible S.

But as mentioned by Torres, variety is the spice of life so I've opted to go for the iphone 5 when I renew my contract. Never had an iphone and have heard great things about its intuitive user-friendlyness, why not give it a go?

I'm trying to decide whether I want to go iPhone 5 or go Android. I currently have an iPhone 4, but I'm finding it too slow for my liking. The new hardware on the iPhone 5 is quite appealing as it has a faster processor, better camera, etc. However, I'm also finding that as I do a lot of web browsing and occasionally watch videos on my phone, I could benefit from a larger screen size. So I'm currently scanning the market for new phones. I want to see how big the new Note 2 actually is.

Screen size - s3
web browsing - i5..it is fast. rather instantaneous
speed - i5
movies - s3, but i definitley would like to see what a movie looks like on this i5 screen..youtube looks excellent in the jasmine app.
Thought id add audio - the iphone is very impressive and loud for music. much louder than my droid that had beats in it. One reason I think is because beats boosts low frequencies which are worthless in headphones and suck out all the headroom.

Size is the thing..I like the small iphone..easier to thumb text and fits so much better in the pocket..but if you are thinking about the note, then thats not an issue.

The best thing about Android..........you don't have to sit in Panera all day trying to get people to notice you and your iPad and iPhone.

You also won't have to start every sentence with the word...Like. Example...."like, you know I got my iPhone and it's like, totally awesome. Like, let's go over to GAP and walk around texting with our iPhones....like that will be like totally cool."

Also..NFC sucks right now. I had it, and hated it Google Wallet had a major glitch in which it would lock your phone up that HTC had to fix.

NFC is not ready for primetime yet.

And its funny how people are trying to act like every iphone user fits a stereotype. The S3 ads are exactly the same thing. I mean 2 guys who touch their phones together to share a playlist and then say "see you late in the studio man"..LOLOL, that is the lamest thing of all time.

LOL...

Samsung and other companies have finally picked up on the over idolization of the iPhone, and instead of just taking it are finally using it against Apple in advertising.

Again, I'm glad an American company is dominating, but mass sheeping and fanboyism is getting old and extremely tired!

Exactly. Dude, I'm in Florida right now. Totally pulling your chain. Relax, just having some fun. You've got to admit, Starbucks, Panera.....I cringe when I walk in there. Sometimes I pick up coffee for offices and see all the I sheep sitting there, blogging or some other waste of time crap, acting important, yet most are unemployed. I want to scream....GO FIND A JOB. Panera has now put in a policy, only 30 minutes of free Internet and off you go. The manager of one told me the I sheep were wasting all day there sucking Internet and drinking one coffee. Killing their business.
