This is so much fun! No one in there who could even hurt Rafa, much less beat him. Perfect way to come back. Nirvana for us fans. Only happy things to look forward to, no stress :)

Almagro in a good day could beat a Nadal not fully fit, but dont think is gonna happen, we already know how his mind (doesn't) work

This is played on indoor clay, I can't see Nadal winning this one.

If Nadal meets Almagro in the finals then his chances at winning are minuscule, Almagro is most likely to take the title.

Nadal ain't winning this, either. I think he will lose all 3 of these clay tournies he in scheduled to play. This one especially since it's on fast, indoor clay. He won't win a match there.

Indoor clay is not as big of a disadvantage for Nadal as you are thinking.

This is looking a bit dodgy now. I advise you to modify your confidence/bragging cos humble pie is nasty one to eat. Especially if people are shoving it in your face, which I won't do but it's easy to do and it aint nice lol. Be humble like Nadal ;)

Who cares how he does at these nothing S. American tournaments? It only matters how he does at the clay events just prior to the FO and at the FO.

Well, Zeb took me by surprise, sorry. This post was before the Chile final of course and I must say I couldn't see Zeb winning it. But who could have predicted Zeb would goat all of a sudden?

OK, I should have added: as long as Zeballos is not playing... Come on, he's not gonna lose to Fognini and Almagro is a total head case.

And you also said he wouldn't lose to Mr. Onions, yet he did just that. Aren't you filled up on all that humble pie you've been eating by now?

I do. It's hurts his confidence every time he loses to some low ranked player on his best surface. It also costs him his clay aura as well. I said that his aura on clay is gone on here earlier and was told I was nuts. Funny that. Lol.

Nah, I think you are reading too much into it. If he loses at Monte Carlo or one of those other pre-FO big clay events then that is another story.

Veroniquem wasn't the only one being presumptuous, EVERYONE thought Rafa would mow through the field. Either way, losing 6-4 in the final set in the final of his first tournament in 8 months is bad, but not the end of the world. In 2009 Nadal didn't even win a set at the WTF, and got thrashed by Cilic 3 and 0, among other maulings, yet won 3 majors the year after. I love how people discount the top 4 all the time, as if they can't bounce back from tough losses.

PS, where was your humble pie, after you brashly predicted that Nadal would get stomped by Djokovic in MC, Rome, and RG last year, only to win all 3?

Exactly. Before Chile started, I didn't even expect finals but after the tournament started, I thought Rafa was playing better than I had anticipated. I thought he might pull the feat. But it's way too early for radical gloom and doom predictions. I still feel optimistic for the rest of the season.

Almagro took a healthy and confidant Nadal to a tiebreak in the FO last year, I wouldn't be so confidant about him winning at the moment when he still has so many kinks in his game.

I'm just saying I don't get why people get cocky before events even when it is Nadal on clay. Anything can happen - I didn't think he'd lose either and it was a close one but there's a difference between being like "really he should have this one in the bag" and being like "this is so fun, no one can even test the clay goat, he will wipe everyone off court" or something like that.

not to mention RG 2010 7-6 7-6 6-4. A really close straight sets match.

Yikes I forgot about that one, well in that case Rafa ain't got a chance. Unless he drastically improves during this tournament, which I doubt will happen that quickly.

Nico could be hurting over that AO loss though and he could choke when he realises he has a chnace to win. But Almagro's game is certainly good enough to beat Nadal at the present time. After the AO I said that if that loss didn't kill him, he would be a danger to Nadal in these events.

He he, onions is a mental giant compared to Mugro!

Please, Nico might choke matches but some respect. He's not a mug, he's a very good player. And won't you look silly if he doesn't choke and actually beats Nadal? How long before you act as humble as your hero? I much prefer you when you are lol.

Doesn't Nadal have to actually make it to Nico in order to lose to him? I think this argument is futile since Nadal will lose long before he gets that far.

and what did Zeb do before this? Dude never even won a title. Nadal is still trying to find his game, so all bets are off really.

Well, for one, he didn't build up a reputation of choking away important matches. Overall skill level is one thing, mental weakness another. In the Ferrer match, Almagro had the game, he was playing way better than Ferrer even but he kept folding mentally on important points. Can't see why it would be different against Nadal even if he played well but I guess we'll see sooner than later. I am not saying Rafa will win Brazil (I'm gonna be cautious this time!). Obviously, the indoor part won't help. But if somebody beats him, I just doubt it will be Almagro, that's all. At the last minute, Almagro will remember who is across the net and his arm will shake.

Hmm wasn't there some other Spanish choker who somehow beat a match sharp Nadal on clay last year after losing 12 matches out of 12 vs him? It was something like Fiasco... oh but that was ice right?

Even chokers win sometimes and now that Nadal has lost that could dent the aura. I give Almagro a decent chance, but we'll see.

Nadal has lost to worse people off of clay. It's on clay, he's been a mountain to climb.

But clay is where he has his only chance to win. Nadal losing to some one and done mug who has never won a title on hardcourts is no surprise, but on clay, it's a whole different story.

viña del mar was n really bad conditions too, it's a complaint players have every year, you people only notes this now because Nadal is playing them. The best courts for the southamerican tour are the ones in Bs As, too bad nadal is not playing, lost a lot of respect for him, he is only after the money, he went to play to where he was payed most skipping Bs As, his fan base here diminished for him doing that considerably.

Say hello to the '13RG champion...Paul Capdeville! Conqueror of the conqueror! Is there any doubt after the Chilean veteran pounded the Zeballos into submission today???:)

What? For real? Where did you read this? Was he afraid to lose to Zeballos in singles AND doubles?

The commentator has announced it after Chardy match. Explaining Rafa decided to rest his knee ahead of tomorrow match. Adding it had nothing to do with Nadal's comments on the quality of courts. Worth mentioning a lot of boos from the audience

okay.. this is really lame. His fans wait 7 for months for him to play again, thinking "at least he will finally be injury free now". And the guy comes back with more problems than he had before! I also don't like the fact that he barely beat his opponents and then doesn't play the next round, if he wasn't going to play doubles anyway he shouldn't have played the first round either so that Andujar and Garcia-Lopez could play the second round.
