quiz - racket drop, why necessary

here is a quiz for the tennis coaches and the coach wannabe's.... why is it necessary to drop the racket head for ground strokes?

1 common answer is that you need to drop it so you can brush up for topspin.

but what if player just wants to hit a flat ball with not much spin.... the racket drop is still necessary.

why?

arche3 - stuff like this you don't learn in lessons..... real men figure stuff out.

Maybe you ain't Dozu...
He had a nice slice backhand, and knows there is no rackethead drop for slices, meaning he knows there's no rackethead drop below the expected level of the ball for flat hits either.

let me rephrase the question -

suppose i need to hit a flatter topspin shot... only need to get say 100 rpm...

why do I need to drop the racket head? or do I?

Are you talking about flat or topspin?
No you don't need to drop it. Why are you saying you 'need' to?
There's many ways to hit any kind of shot. I can hit a flat ball by dropping the racquet and a ts shot with no drop.
And you might as well define drop before everyone jumps on your case.

ok, the drop is your move the high racket head during the backswing down to the dog padding position.

so you saying no need to drop it to hit a topspin ball.... that is wrong.

Depends in the height of the incoming ball and your contact point numskull.

If its a baseline ground stroke and ball coming with a lot of spin and it sits up chest to shoulder high you can drive the ball down and really no need to drop the racket head below ball. You can just drive through it.

All these types of questions really do not need to be asked. If you think your smart your not. If you play enough you will just know how to hit it. I never think about all the lame brain things you type. I just hit the ball.

Also if dozu is being literal if you don't let the racket head drop even a little bit it will be an overhead. But my definition is you don't always have to drop head of racket below the contact point.

Yea i was planning on dragging it out a little longer so that he could have made more weird incorrect statements before I said something like that. You ruined my plan. Oh well, back to the nadal gulbis match.

Maybe you need to ask the proper question then, if the ball is waist high you still need to get the ball over the net so yes you need to drop the racket head. If its chest high I can hit it hard enough to not really drop head much below ball contact as long as I'm a foot into the court.

Your questions show so much ignorance and are the questions of an incomplete tennis player. Its all dependent on incoming ball height. Your position on the court (especially how deep you are) , and the pace of your stroke you intend to hit.

All your showing here is you lack tennis IQ,

Agreed.

According to him it's impossible / wrong to hit topspin without going into ptd. haha. yea.. sure.

Also dozu if you hit with a flat swing but with a slightly closed face you can hit with top spin. Its not a loopy ball but top spin non the less.

I don't recall dozu being as lame as luv40... Could it be that dozu is pretending to be even dumber than he already is to throw us off?

I thought they dubbed it the 'Eagle' fh.
Let's ask Dozu. He'll know.

I think it is the Eagle. Lol.
I'm actually kinda annoyed with dozu as well because he is trolling me with his avatar. He used mine but added a pancake serve. What's funnier is that I started using my avatar to troll Torres. Lmao.

What annoys me is that he came on here as 'luv40' and for 2 weeks was littering on numerous threads about how everyone 'talks too much about forehands' and 'stop talking about forehands' and 'this and that threads are wastes of time because it deals w/ forehands' over and over and over and then he even started his own thread about 'people here talk too much about the forehand'. And now here he is starting a 'forehand quiz' thread that he's clueless about.

He would have gotten more respect just coming back as Dozu instead of attempting to deceive us all w/ his new online personality.

Agree. It will be almost impossible for him to get some respect now., why do the people least knowledgeable about tennis always tries to come off as an ATP coach?
