I don't know why people are hallucinating over Ferrer beating Fed. Get real Ferrer has not even got close to beat Federer over the years, Ferrer is Federer's lapdog not Nadal's. And Fed has picked up his level of play in Rome already, even if he is rusty he can still beat Ferrer. IMO against Benny in Wimbly last year Fed sucked completely but still managed to scrape himself out of that.

Speaking of Fed, I think he's playing on Sunday. :)

I'm not so sure that Fed could beat Ferrer in a best of 5 at this point.

ferrrer has a far better chance against Rafa than against Roger... federer is a bad matchup for him as he is a much more aggressive player.

"This is the tournament that is the number one priority this year. This is where I want to win and i'm going to go for it. I think my game is there, and I'm very, very motivated" Djokovic

Sounds like a man on a mission. Looking forward to the 7th June

What makes you think Federer will even qualify for the World Tour Finals?

I've always found it a bit arrogant that he just lists it in his schedule, as if he expects to qualify. Just disgusting.

been going through the draw and did a quick 1-sentence preview for each first-round match

"“In a Sentence” – Roland Garros Men’s Singles Draw Overview (Top Half)
May 24, 2013

SECTION 1

Novak Djokovic (1) vs. David Goffin
- Goffin got to the fourth round last year and made Federer work for his win. Very unfortunate draw this year.

Ivan Dodig vs. Guido Pella
- Pella was one of the youngest players in the top-100 last year, look for the Argentinian left-hander to make some waves.

Alex Kuznetsov vs. Lucas Pouille
- Kuznetsov turned pro in 2004 but has less than $600 000 in career earnings; wildcard Pouille is 19 but already has three pro titles to his name

Alejandro Falla vs. Grigor Dimitrov
- Falla has not won consecutive Tour matches since March, while the surging Dimitrov surprisingly only has 2 match wins in the previous 4 Grand Slam tournaments..."

SECTION 3

Tomas Berdych (5) vs. Gael Monfils
- Berdych gets an absolutely brutal draw against former top-10er and 2008 semifinalist Monfils, who is coming off of a final round appearance in Nice this week.

Ernests Gulbis vs. Rogerio Dutra Silva
- The traditionally inconsistent Gulbis has been sterling on clay this season, going 12-4 and not losing to anyone outside of the top-20.

Igor Sijsling vs. Jurgen Melzer
- Sijsling is having the best 12 months of his pro career, while Melzer is absolutely struggling on clay this season (2-8).

Jurgen Zopp vs. Tommy Robredo
- Zopp has only played one match in 2013 (first-round loss in Nice) and has not won a Tour match since last October; Robredo started the year outside the top 100 and is now at #34..."

Day 1 Schedule: On Chatrier we have Ivanovic-Martic, Serena-Tatishvili, Federer-Carreno Busta, Llodra-Darcis and on Lenglen it's Errani-Rus, Simon-Hewitt, Ferrer-Matosevic and Venus-U.Radwanska. Pretty good stuff, not sure who that leaves for Monday though...

Because he's at #6 in the race ranking and is highly unlikely to drop out of the top 8 again.

Traditionally the first day has never featured any of the big 4.... no idea why they're doing it this year...

Because the French finally realises that the tyrant that is Nadal has to be stopped, so they gave their beloved Federer the best draw possible as well as the best schedule.

so the RG committee have 'organized' a cupcake draw with a cherry on top for federer, and they have given him a sunday 1st rd so he can get some extra rest in ?..hmmmm.

Why not? Did you not see how Nadal got his cakewalk in Madrid with better scheduling. Same in Rome in terms of scheduling.

Rooting for Gulbis and Dimitrov big time to shake up the draw early. I think it is more likely for Gulbis to take out Berdych than it is for Dimitrov to take out Djokovic. Gulbis has more experience in big grand slam matches and beat Berdych in R1 at Wimbeldon last year, so if he maintains recent form and plays within himself he can make a deep run here. Dimitrov on the other hand needs to do whatever he can not to start cramping in the second set and prevent the nerves from creeping in. It's important for him to get up early in the match and not get discouraged. So many times when he plays a top 4 guy he jumps out to an early lead, 5-2 or 5-3, and is unable to close out the set and that affects his play in the following set.

Up a set and a break. Maybe Hewitt can make a deep run here.

Edit: Great play from Hewitt to break Simon again.

Wow. Hewitt does an exquisite dropshot to go up a double break in the 2nd. Looks like Simon has to comeback from 2 sets down if he wants to advance here.
