Anybody try Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA?

I just picked up a bottle of Stone "Enjoy By" IPA yesterday. I'll try that out tonight. Anybody had it?

Very good. Too expensive to drink regularly, even if you could get it. But I thought it was a really nice beer. Good citrusy flavor, good hop bitterness, too, which I tend not to perceive together in many beers.

Great Divide makes a nice wood aged IIPA. The other one that I remember being really impressed by was Cigar City's cedar aged jai alai. Don't have access to that one living in MN however.

oh yeah cedar aged...how could i forget. going to need more fermenting buckets. :)

Definitely in the upper end of my price range. I'll report back my thoughts. I'll be traveling to Fla on Sunday for a business trip. Definitely will have some Jai Alai while I'm there. I had it a few months ago and enjoyed it.

What part of Florida? There are a few new breweries up in the Jacksonville area that are producing some good IPAs now.

The Jai Alai is definitely a good one to try if you visit or live in Florida.

The funny thing is that I didn't particular care for regular Jai Alai, but I thought the cedar aged one was excellent. I've heard the white oak version is good as well.

Wife and I were just out in San Fran and had a chance to stop by 21st Amendment. Had the MCA Stout as I'm a dark beer guy. Damn fine.

Have been saving this one since the Holidays for good reason:

That's my 14 month old daughter's name, and I defended my dissertation proposal today.

Had a few already at Heartland Brewery (NYC), and even had time to play for a few hours in the evening.

How did the defense go? I had to do the same for my Masters. Luckily it was super early and one of the professors slept the whole time. The one question that killed me was not even about my work, the professor was looking at my log-log plot and asked me "What is a natural logarithm?". Just went completely blank on that one. My first answer was "A button on my calculator". He got me good.

The defense went well- I see it more as a formality. My committee had already seen the final version of my manuscript (and all it's previous iterations), so the questions mainly had to do with methodology and sampling. It's a Social Psych program.

had different brews at pizza place downtown. 1st was DF 61 IPA which had a reddish color and nice dry taste (no more clues here). 2nd was Bruery White Oak IPA which Slapshot might enjoy since it has a slight bourbon boozey taste. lastly was a small sample of SN French Saison which was also nice.

have to visit that pizza place again since they appear to get new interesting and delicious brew styles. :)

No beer since 6/8? :)

Since my local purveyor began selling individual bottles of crafts, I've tried some brands I had previously never heard of: Summit, Sea Dog, 16 Mile, Evil Genius...

Also tried the Troegs and SA variety boxes.

Been recently in love with the Whole Foods by my job which sells growlers. So far, Sixpoint Brownstone (Brooklyn, NY)and Carton Boat (NJ) have been enjoyed. But a pit stop on Monday is in order. Which one would you get:

- DF Festina Peche
or
- Against the Grain Hacksaaz Jim Chuggin ?

Also, not sure if you MN folks caught this (or went), but Brooklyn was at Soap Factory doing some food + beer combinations. It looked good!

Oh the torture. I'm in northern Bavaria, Germany now and don't want to risk drinking beer for fear of a gout attack. There is a major festival going on at the top of a mountain this week, hopefully they have wine up top. :) Record breaking heat in Germany now, feels like spring or fall in Florida BUT...no A/C.

Don't you worry about the Rieslings. They are getting consumed. I just completed Saturday Uno with a nap after 2 wines. Saturday dos begins now, hopefully I can hang with the Germans tonight!

Mik,

Have fun in Germany...business/pleasure or both? I was born at the Army Med Center in Landstuhl and used to visit frequently but haven't been back in 10 years or so.

My 8 month old (and 3 yo and 5 yo) is wearing us out, so haven't posted much. But that doesn't mean I haven't been drinking good beer. :)

The last Stone "Drink By" IPA was probably the best IPA I've tasted in years. I believe the "drink by" date was July 4 and it was a double IPA, very fruit/citrus forward, nice and smooth. Right up there with Pliny (maybe better), IMHO.

Green Flash Barleywine is great these days, though I still prefer SN Bigfoot. My local watering hole has had Ballast Point Sculpin IPA on tap for a few weeks and it's even better than the bottled version.

I also tried the first Dogfish beer ever that I absolutely hated. DFH 61 is made with Syrah grape must...tasted like a watered down 60 minute with a strange sour 'twang' at the end...not good at all.

think it's called "Enjoy By". might give it a try but probably too pricey since it's over loaded with aroma hops.

As promised, here is the picture of the Biergarten on top of the mountain in central Germany last weekend. The wine was good too. ;)

Celebrated IPA day with Live Free or Die- what did you "yutes" do?

In Montreal for the Masters 1000. Visited the Dieu du Ciel brewery- great place. Small plate fare and a dozen taps. Definitely recommend. Brought back 12 bottles for home. :)

Lagunitas Lil Sumpin Sumpin, not sure if it is an IPA.

I just made a swing through Colorado. Visited Breckenridge, Fort Collins Brewery, New Belgium, and Odell.

I really like Breckenridge's Vanilla Porter. I normally don't go for that sort of thing, but it's a great beer.

Some other highlights were New Belgium's Coconut Curry Hefeweizen and Le Terroir. I really like sours, and I really like hops. Le Terroir is both sour and hoppy, which is cool.

I was bummed that Odell St. Lupulin is out of the market. It was a summer seasonal. That might be the best beer I've had this year. But then again, it's hard to be objective when you just hiked 9 miles with your wife in Rocky Mountain National Park. I wish they were in more states.

I love Rocky Mountain National Park. I'm sure it was stunning with the leaves changing.

Just tried Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Scotch Ale. Pretty good, though perhaps a bit heavy on the bourbon component.
