It me against Mikelers pansy *** drop shots and no pace slices.

Curious...ssgator80, are you one of the players mikeler was referring to when he said "some of the guys I play, if I try to smack balls at them, they come back harder. But if I hit them slice, they have no idea what to do with it."?

If so, I feel your pain...

He is absolutely one of those players! Which is why he gets so ****ed with my game even though he beats me most of the time. The comment about not knowing what to do with slice was referring to our discussion of high school girls and how they can't handle it. SSgator80 is about 5 feet tall with shoes on, so he has no problem getting down to the ball. He just gets frustrated that he does not have the angle to blast a knuckle ball line drive forehand over the net. SSgator80 was also the guy I told you about who got the full body cramps. I was thinking about him as you were on your 5th liter of water yesterday!

I played this guy at the Sport and Health in Tyson. deacades ago.

He said he played davis cup *I didn't buy it or he was a [seen] guy". He was of a Latin country of some sort *Shrug*. He had a belly and thick legs. He hit a hard ball, but moving was not his cup of tea (at least not anymore). Didn't help that it was on clay courts.

Anyways, he definetly had a pro drop shot. Thing would land inches from the net and had back spin. I had to start cheating forward after every hit. If my shots were not passing the "sideline" I had to cheat. Started to remember what my childhood coach said about drop shotters -- he was a clay court specialist on the tour during the wood racquet days.

He said you have do a sort of loop/circle with your shot recovery. Hit the ball, move forward.. and if you don't see the drop shot.. then drop back. Small steps with a small a loop, ...enough to get your moment moving forward in a controlled fashion.

Worked, but he did do the "mikeler" drop/lob on me. Thankfully he did it once.. ala johnny dangerously.

Combat a drop shot+ lobber IMO:

- Loop position (above)
- Angle your drop shot return
- Move your opponent more.. most drop shot experts I know can't drop shot well on the run.
- Do not fight fire with fire
-Most drop shotters come in after a drop shot.. if so.. and you can whip that ball over.. aim in their direction. Hard for them to hit a lob IMO.
- Do not play with Tennismonkey or Mikeler ..

I don't know about him, but I'll be back there tomorrow evening. Can't wait for humid air again. These hang nails are annoying in this dry air.

It's been raining steady since Monday night in South Florida - Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Cleared up today.

I'm sure it's nice and hot in Tampa... :)

Your next response might just put me in NOVA.

Take off, aye?

The building I'm in right now is on top of the tennis factory. Walked in - interesting experience.....

Oh yeah? Now we all know exactly where you work!

So, I fell victim to badly managing my time today. Outdoor, singles, two hours. I won first set 6-4. Lost second 6-7. So, I'm up on games right? There were literally only 3 minutes left. I could have taken my set break (is it two minutes or more?) and let it time out.

Instead we go back out and play one point of the tb before time is called. So, instead of winning by a game, I lost by one point.

My game is slowly (slowwwwwly) returning though. Boy, nursing school destroyed my singles game. :(

Are you in China now? Or is the tennis factory an actual shop?

The actual shop. The one woman in the store harangued me about the fit and manufacturing variances of shoes for nearly 30 minutes. I only popped in to take a quick look. Store is a mess, papers and boxes and random clothes everywhere.

The lady was mostly right about the shoes, but man, I thought I'd never get to leave. She walked me all the way to the door. Nice person but a bit off...

I'm very rarely at that office. So you'll never find me..... ;)

You get points in my book for playing it out. It's a tough loss, but who wants to end a match just sitting on the bench?

Hey, JRS, do you live anywhere close to this?

http://www.commercialappeal.com/new...virginia-apartment-building/?CID=happeningnow

Looks kinda scary.

Yup, it's about a mile away. Dulles might as well be in my back yard.

i thought jrs meant tennis factory like the store........

You are correct sir!

Ummm, the key word in your graphic is Prediction. Where's the actual graphic? I bet it's no more than 10% of the predicted...

Enjoy the blizzards, earthquakes, heat waves, traffic (1.5 hour commutes), timed USTA matches and Cicadas (I saw zero during my stay). I will miss the food though...so good here.

What's sad is I wanted to come back with "enjoy your tons of traffic lights, rednecks, gun-toting whack jobs, and living in a state where English truly is a Second Language".

But all of that applies to Virginia as well...

Mclovin,

Leave the north and visit again. We can play a tournament or visit Mikeler in Tampa/Orlando/Dayton ... combat his drop shots.

Btw, .. did Mikeler provide the tennis balls for your match? There is a nasty TT rumor that he rigs the tennis balls to suit his game.

Mc brought the balls but his Gammas seem like the exact same ball as my favorite Pro Penn Marathons.

dang it. had played out during lunch. Didn't know heat had so much impact on strings. I guess the heat loosened up my multi's. It's spraying like crazy. Since Cicada's aren't out yet, that's what I am blaming it on.

Yeah, the ball gets live in this hot weather.

Good idea to go up a few pounds in tension.

Hot weather is soft poly hybrid time. Cooler weather is when I go back to full multis. Cooler back here in Orlando than NOVA.

Haha, yeah... looks like the ultimate camping vehicle.

In related car news, I traded in the A4 for a new Ford Fusion, losing major cool points in the process. But for a car that was 3 years old with only 15k miles on it, I could no longer justify a $500 car payment on a car that sits in a parking spot 90% of the time. Oddly enough, the Fusion is actually bigger inside and I can actually fit the two car seats in it.

I should never have made that joke about it being cooler in Florida. The last 2 days in the afternoon have been quite brutal.
