Hey Daniel,

I read on another thread that PHT is made in 15 / 15L gauge. (Cannot remember which) Is there any chance of it making it's way to USA/Canada? I'd love to try my favourite string in a thicker gauge! :)

The 15L is very rare and not carried in the US (and I'm pretty sure not in Canada). there may be some packs floating around from 4-5 years ago. I don't believe we even produce it any more.

Our of curiosity, what advantage do you get when you play thicker strings? I've always played 17 or 18 and even 16 feels too thick for me.

Ahhh I see! That's too bad!

I've been using the Steam 99S lately, and it just eats strings rather quickly. PHT is my favourite string, and I'd like to try it in a open string pattern-friendly option. :)

That being said, I normally use 16g in any stick with 16 mains, and 17g for 18 mains. I don't like 18g string as I find the durability isn't the best, and even for a poly it always feels a little too "poppy."

Hi Babolat Official - I was wondering are Babolat ever likely to re-release the original APD as say a classic version as there is a lot of love for that particular stick?

Thanks,

Max

Lets hope they will, with the original paint job too. A lot of people would buy them as they aren't as stiff as the new ones.

I for one would buy 4 sticks without hesitation.

did you see the "other" project as well?

lucky for you I didnt.

a guy I know who works for the canadian distributor was playing doubles with it and we talked about the storm replacements a bit. also saw it a few weeks ago being carried by a ITF-ranked teaching pro around here. definitely more interesting to look at than the current generation storms (which I find a bit busy-looking). very sharp

Babolat Official, sorry if this has been asked but do any of the pros/college players sponsored by Babolat ask for modifications to make the frames more comfortable? If so, what do you do for them?

We adjust static weight, balance, and swing weight based on their preference and testing.

i'll release all the details when i can

Hoping that the new Storm replacement line will include a lighter, non-Tour 27.5" version, something similar to the old Pure Control Zylon 360 Plus. Extended racquets at > 12.0 oz. are too much for this mere mortal (like that length, but at < 11.5 oz.). Thanks.

Hi, Daniel -

Given the current "sale" price and the player's retirement, is the Pure Drive Roddick being discontinued? Correct to presume the correct retail price is a temporary promotion?

Thanks.

Hi, how are you?

I have 3 "retail" Babolat Pure Drive Roddick+ and 1 prostock Andy Roddick personal frame.

I want to know why Andy dont use cortex system in the frame and if the construction materials are different (feeling playing is ike two completely diferent racquets).

Thanks

Because like Nadal, it's one of the previous versions of the frame under the paint. IIRC, Roddick even used to hit with the Team version with lead in his first slams or so.

I would like to try the Babolat Pro Hurricane Tour & VS Gut Hybrid in my Pure Drive Roddick GT. What is your feedback?
is much different from a full Pro Hurricane Tour & Xcel?
How is the power and spin vs a full poly setup like poly star energy or poly plasma?
How is durability ? . I break the poly on around 20h but around 12h all the polys i try are losing playability

You should string gut mains and poly crosses, or the poly will kill the gut and you'll get less spin out of it.

^Lukhas why most of players string poly in mains? What about the power?

The back widow just broke tonight and when was fresh strung it felt that needed some extra pop. should I go for a lower tension with the hybrid or keep the tension because the VS is giving me extra pop? On TWU when I've search for similar string with black widow one of choices was PHT

I'm not sure at the moment, it is my understanding we will continue to offer this frame. But that could change.

Andy has been playing with the same racquet since he joined Babolat. We did not have cortex technology back then.

The PHT/Gut will hold tension better and provide more power and feel than PHT/Xcel. However, it is more expensive. I haven't played this combo enough to speak to durability, but they should be more or less the same.

A hybrid will have more power and feel than all poly, but less durability and spin.

Most polys lose playability within 10-14 hours. A hybrid is a good way to combat this.

last time i strung the black widow @ 55/53 lbs ( 25/24 kg ) and it felt to 1kg to tight. should i go lower with the PHT/VS or keep the tension for the mains and raise the crosses.? Something like 55/57 ( 25/26 kg )

Most players string poly in the mains in a poly/multi hybrid because the multi has little business in the mains. But in a gut/poly hybrid, most players string gut in the mains. Gut mains and poly cross is a very low friction association, that allows excellent spin potential. While the reverse is very high friction, lower spin potential, and the poly will most likely break the crosses very quickly. Some players like it, but it's kind of a waste to do so IMO. String your gut mains about 3 or 4 pounds higher than your crosses. You can drop tension in comparison to a regular poly/multi hybrid. Especially if you pre-stretch the gut first. Now, I don't play gut because of the price, so I can't help you too much on this.

Which do you think has more power and more spin ?? PHT 18 Gauge ( I buy this from TW Europe) vs RPM blast 18 gauge.

Spin to RPM no problem. More control with PHT and still a good amount of spin IMO. Maybe the reason why Nadal prefers RPM, while Roddick did try the RPM but quickly went back to PHT.

Dear babolat. Why do you not sell that cheaper gut Tonic anymore ??? I can't find it anywhere in the TW site or internet in USA. not everybody is a millionare like Federer. us poor people need to enjoy the fruits of babolat natural gut as well.
