It's an expo, nothing more. That's why people like Nalbandian (0 Grand Slams, 2 Masters) and Davydenko (0 Grand Slams, 3 Masters) can win it.

The WTF is a great tournament, although nothing like a slam or Olympic Games. It's better than Masters 1000 tournies.

Not sure why Federer and Nadal fans can't just root for their favorite and respect the other. This constant bashing each other is destroying this tennis forum. They both made each other great and their rivalry will forever be talked about. Nothing wrong with that.

anyhow.

It is only a Nadal fan and the Roger Federer hater to have looked down on WTF.

prejudiced moron as Arrogant.

however Nadal wins the victory in WTF.

The present surface is slow and the play of other players' this year is too poor.

Congratulations.

Isn't this a rather different viewpoint than the one Federer gave a few weeks ago, when the question of him not qualifying arose?

Yeah. Ignore works wonders really.

I know ... But sometimes I like to pop my head into these troll / hate threads and leave a little quip for some of the passerbies who might not be familiar with this forum. TT ranks really well in Google, and probably draws a lot of new users. It's a shame to know they probably run into rubbish like this more often than not .

I promptly unsubscribe thereafter.

When asked about qualifying for the year-end finale Federer said:

"I'm not really thinking about it. I don't think I'll change my schedule accordingly. But what's important for me, first and foremost, is that I move better, that I play better."

By "absolute best tournament out there" I think he meant in terms of showmanship, and the buzz and the way they set up the O2 Arena, and the locker rooms and all the nice ways it's set up. Not that it is the greatest tournament of the sport! Who in their right mind would rate the WTF above the slams??

At best the WTF is between the Slams and the masters but it is an important and significant tournament no doubt.

It is a great tournament. And why Federer>Nadal. You gotta win on fast surfaces as well. The rest of the year is played on slower surfaces.

The surface isn't that fast. Too fast for Nadal, sure, but so are most courts (just none of the ones he has to play on). Watch the 1996 final and then watch the 2012 final and you'll see that the 1996 court was much faster than the 2012 one.

The WTF is actually quite slow (for an indoor court)... Its just that for Fed, conditions are indoor so he can pick his spots perfectly without being bothered by other things and you can't get up high on his backhand there.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Not to knock the WTF but personally other than the Slams and the Olympics I don't think anything is important.

Take a look at the Italian open.....or Monte Carlo .....means nothing to me as well.

I would place WTF over the Olympics because you actually have to qualify for it and have to beat the 8 best players that year. Olympics is more of a nationalism thing and not about the player and not everyone is as patriotic or as interested in that kind of thing. The WTF is all about you!

You would but the world does not.

If you look at how the hall of famers like Agassi , Sampras , Mcenroe , Cash, wilander ....to name a few and sports writers they all talk about Olympics & Davis cup actually in the goat debate.

The olynpics is known as the golden slam or the fifth slam.....the wtf .....not so much .

I have never seen even one quote or discussion about the WTF in the goat debate.

Maybe because it's a round robin ??? I don't know but the fact is it's simply not held in as high regard.

1. Anyone who counts the Davis Cup does, by virtue of doing so, disqualify himself or herself from any claim to speak in the debate with rational authority. It's just not fair to count a team competition when comparing individuals.
2. The Olympics is a different matter and it can be debated. But I've seen plenty of people treat the WTF as a more important event and I agree with the previous poster that it's marginally more important.

Jesus christ people! Doesn't anyone see how futile this entire discussion is? No one is right and no one is wrong. A tournament title is worth as much as the amount of points and prize money that you get from it. Any kind of feeling of honor or pride that comes with it (like in the Olympics) is purely subjective and that can only be judged by each individual for himself.

Djokovic does not agree with you and neither does Federer...I'd much rather listen to them than a internet troll.

Here's what Novak thinks about WTF,

"The best eight players playing here says everything about the quality of the event and I would definitely put it on a level with the Grand Slams."

But think about it...the Sampras didn't win it, neither did Laver! I'm sure its a great sense of national pride but I personally wouldn't rank any player above someone just because of an OG (unless of course that is the only thing they've won)

That's BS. If you told Djokovic that for the remainder of his career he could win one major or 2 WTF, I guarantee he'd take the major. It's nowhere near the same level.

It's a no brainer .

Look just go to any sports magazine where there is a discussion of who is the goat ......

Every single article discusses the Olympics and Davis cup .

Not a single one discusses the WTF.

This is a stupid thread. It's just a bunch of Fed fans trying to make the WTF into something it's not .

It's pretty sad when this is all they have .....it's more than sad. It's pathetic.

^^^ Novak Djokovic disagrees with you.

LOL!

the desperation grows even deeper...

...and it is quite sad. Easy to translate, he's saying, "I cannot win majors, so i'll say this 2nd rate event is the best."

He's too old to believe anyone will not know why he's creating this sad bit of self-deception.

It looks good to say positive things about the Olympics and Davis Cup because it makes one look patriotic, so it artificially inflates their importance.

Regardless of the reason you think....it is in fact discussed in all media while the wtf is not.

It's a fact . You may not like it or agree with it but it's the way it is.

If the article is about Nadal, it is very natural since he has not won it.

I don't know why people mention Davis cup, it's obvious that Roger would have won it at least 1 time if he played with Ferrer/Verdasco/Granollers/Lopez... instead he's playing with Wawrinka and some crap double players who can't hit a single volley
