New Tsonga Racquet?

If this racket is so good then why did he lose to Simon ?

Lol. Thought the same thing. Actually even though he won against Roger-Vasselin, if you watch the match, Vasselin was tee'ing off on Tsonga's groundstrokes. I think Tsonga generates a lot more power and spin with the aeropro. It was odd to see someone t-off on tsonga like that. I saw the same with Simon, except that frogger just did it more consistently and didn't make the mistakes that Vasselin did. Jo, if that stick ain't for you, don't force it and use it. Just play with whatever you're comfortable with.

why not just paint the Aero pro like this Aero strike and fool the public ? other pros do all the time like Federer and Murray.

I wonder if you are serious. He is coming back from a knee injury remember? He hasn't played an official match since Wimbledon. Of course he ain't as strong as before. Who did Nadal loose against in his comeback tournament already?

Now I wonder if you read the god damn thread. You cannot because the moulds are too different and it would be a very obvious paintjob.

That's why he got to a slam final, his best result to date, with a similar stick (Wilson HPS6.5). 18/20, really stiff, not a lot of spin.

Hmm, don't remember his was this way though given that it was modified prett extensively. However since I cannot verify it, I'll stand corrected.

16X19 string pattern...so he is not using "tour" version. I do not understand marketing...

LOL, he uses the 16x19 version which will be out somewhere in may 2014 just before the FO.

The mold is completely new and is quite unique, must admit feels good in hand, i love matte paintjobs!

absolutely right, Jo using a 16/19 is perfect for him obviously & I think that his frames will be heavily modified anyway.
He is indirectly marketing all 4 versions of the racket by winning with this paint job.
Maybe Priority 1 will let us know the specs.
Ron may decide to post on here.

I think a lot of players will be switching to whichever form of the Pure Strike they prefer.:)

This is Babolats answer to the popular Wilson Blade.
And didn't Tsonga play with Wilson some years ago? It might even be a Wilson with a Pure Strike PJ. Haha

I saw a little of Tsonga's semi against Djokovic. The ball made a very interesting sound of the racket face - a sort of soft whump. Does anyone know what strings he is using in this new stick?

^VS Mains, RPM Blast crosses. Dunno the tension or gauge. Same setting as the one he used to use in his APD+.

Whatever it is, it's a paint job. I test out racquets when the tennis store in my area gets new demos in, and I saw this racquet and it is a 18x20 string pattern. On these pictures, you can see it is 16x19. Maybe they are coming out with a 16x19 one as well, but the one I saw, and the one the babolat rep claimed Tsonga is using, was a 18x20 pattern.

There will be a 16*19 version in 2014. Check the Official Babolat thread in the Racquet section of TT. And given the looks of the mould and that Babolat hasn't anything in its catalog that looks close to it, that would be one hell of a paintjob. Not saying Tsonga hasn't asked to have a frame tweaked for him and his specs, but it's not just a mere "paintjob". EDIT: When Babolat paintjob frames, they usually paintjob older versions of racquets but that have the same mould as the new ones. Roddick's Pure Drive Team-> Pure Drive Roddick. Nadal's Original APD->APD 2013, ect. Once they paintjob'd Janowicz's Aero Strike into APD (same "Aero" mould), but reverted to the AS paintjob after a while. Now he's testing the Pure Strike.

Sorry, incorrect.

Jo is testing the Pure Strike 100 (16x19). Which is offered to consumers.

Obviously, he customizes for weight (heavier). In the past he has used a custom handle mold and plus length, but I do not have final word on his current set up for this frame.

Spring 2014 will bring the 98 (16x19). Jo is testing the Pure Strike 100 (16x19). Jerzy is also testing the Pure Strike 100.

Jerzy was using a pro stock Aerostorm (not sure where you got "Aerostrike," have not made that model in years). The cosmetics of his AS were updated to the 2013 graphics (it said Aerostorm, not Aeropro Drive) but this model was not for sale to consumers. Same goes for Jack Sock, Steve Johnson, etc. The goal is to transition the AS users into the new Pure Strike frames.

If the stiffness of the 16x19 Pure Strike is accurate from what I've read and is only 66 strung, you don't know how much I would love for an extended version of this thing. I've played an APDC+ at close to Tsonga's specs and it was pretty nice, but too heavy for me. I'd love a more solid feeling and slightly more flexible frame then the APDC+.

How does the Pure Strike 100 16x19 compare with the APD 2013? What is going to be the approx. release date on that?
Thanks

Less power, less spin, less weight (needs tape in my opinion), softer. More control. More feel.

Hits stores Dec 2013 for the world and Jan 2014 for USA.

And which racket is Benoit Paire using now? I could be wrong, but it looks different than the Pure Strike 100.

I think he was using a APD RG (plus?) at Shanghai. I think he will test the Pure Strike but I have not seen confirmation yet. He has been using the 2010 APD (maybe plus?) for most of the year.

A minor thing: TV commentators were also referring it a 98 sq in frame, saying
he adjusted well with slightly smaller head size and so on.

Do they get misinformed too ?

Very much misinformed just the other day they were saying that jerzy switched to smaller head size from his old "Rafa racquet" as they called it... of course jerzy was using aero storm which is same head size as his current test racquet... they often "report" what they see not from their actual experience... of course exception is Robbie c who is extreme close to the players as an ex player himself...

Three of The Strike Models come in 98. The last official word was Jo was testing the Pure Strike 100. I have not spoken to the competition team in the last week.

My point was that they were wrong even more so if you know that he is testing 100 version... they had this whole discussion how he is now using smaller head size (they assumed he switched from 100 aeropro drive to a smaller head racquet and we all know that was not the case...

hey, jersy looked really good today. his serve is just as effective and his groundies seem to have more control than before. Rafa played some insane tennis, even by his standards today so he won but any other day, Jersey would have came back and won this match

Tsonga has told us (as of today) he will be playing with the Pure Strike 100 in 2014.

Jo has a custom handle shape (and maybe a plus, need to confirm) and adds weight to the frames. Other than that, same mold, drill pattern, beam, etc. as the stock Pure Strike 100.

I will work on getting the custom specs and post them if his team approves.

That's really awesome! Thanks for keeping us in the know. I'd love to see if he keeps his spec the same, especially since he had a pretty slick playing set up in the APD+.

I got to hit with the pure strike 100 today. That racquet is pretty sweet. It feels like you can just absolutely carve and manipulate the ball. I think it might be a total monster with some weight added. But even in stock form in felt good.
