I've decided to be the first to hop on the Tennys Sandgren bandwagon. Join me! He won his first Challenger in Champaign this weekend (bringing him to his career high of 187), and he really impressed me. I was able to go and watch his singles and doubles semis and finals. He hustles around the court trying to chase down everything, slides, isn't afraid to come to the net, and can pull out some big serves in clutch moments. He's very vocal on the court, yelling at himself when he isn't doing well, pumping himself up, questioning some calls, but he never seemed to push it over the edge into anything unsportsmanlike. He was a very gracious winner and happily signed an autograph for my daughter. Yes, I'm smitten
So, has anyone been following his career? He played a couple of seasons of college in Tennesse...does anyone who follows college tennis have any thoughts? He doesn't have many points to defend going into 2014 so I'm hoping he can keep racking them up and maybe break the top 100 by mid-season.
Jump on the bandwagon with me! Oh and what about that name? There's no way he won't make it to number one with a name like that. Brad Gilbert will go crazy trying to think of a nickname.
