What was the last movie you watched?

Oldboy (2013)

Every film student should watch the original and then this travesty to see how small intricate details and character development is integral to creating a great film. The remake is rushed, they have missed some of the best parts of the movie : if you are copying a film, at least copy everything.

How awkward it would have been when the actors in this movie (the two main actors are well known and have been featured in top 250 movies of IMDB: No country for old men and District 9) would have watched this movie and realized it is no where near the original in every aspect: acting, character development, cinematography, script.....

3/10

Blue is the Warmest Color - (La Vie d'Adele).
Touching "coming-of-age" story of a girl discovering her sexual identity, highs and lows in her life.

Very graphic content.

42, I enjoyed it but I wonder how much hollywood changed or added to the characters, such as Harrison Ford's character Branch Rickey really liking Jackie Robinson as much as the movie portrayed him to.

UGH..I knew they'd ruin this. The Korean films are gems and really need to just be left alone. I have this version on my hard drive and cant motivate myself to watch it.

Leon Morin, Priest (1961) - directed by Jean-Pierre Melville, starring Jean-Paul Belmondo and Emmanuelle Riva.
A delectable discussion between a priest and a young atheist woman during the time of Italian/German occupation of France.

La Bete Humaine - 1938, Jean Renoir. Starring Jean Gabin, Simone Simon. aka The Human Beast.

No it's not the story of Rafa. It's based on a story by Emile Zola. Seems this kick-started American film-noir. This was Renoir;s film after Grand Illusion, and before Rules of the Game.

Twelve Years a Slave

Beatings, stabbings, lynchings, whip lashings, kidnappings, sexual assaults....okay, okay, slavery was horrible! Painful to sit through, not entertainment in the usual sense, you won't be able to eat your popcorn.

my father is always trying to get me to watch it.. I was like I get the value, but it's not a friday night flick.

Ended up watching 'The Family' With De Niro and Paltrow.

Pretty mediocre at best. Only redeeming quality is the cast is enjoyable, but the story is so transparent its boring. Watch the first ten minutes and draw some conclusions. That's exactly what will happen in the forth coming 1.5 hours.

Watch Zodiac last night (Gyllenhaal, Downey Jr. & Ruffalo). Though the prime suspect suffered a fatal heart attack in the early 90s after being identified by one of the (supposedly) Zodiac's victim 22 years later. However, DNA test in conducted in 2004 proved inconclusive. Unsolved.

Melville's last film before his death, Un Flic (A cop). Alain Delon and Catherine Deneuve, Richard Crenna. Melville's world of cops and criminals, 2 heists, one in real-time. Although not among his best movies, but still a pleasure to watch.

True Detective - not strictly a movie, but hey its a movie stretched out into several episodes. I've seen three episodes and it seems thin to be stretched out over three hours. Came highly recommended to me, and i expected some neat, clever detection but i am let down at present. Harrelson and McConney (sp) are good in it.

However, why does a detective series have almost an entire episode dedicated to the troubled family life of one cop ? Haven;t i seen that already enough ? The typical wife of cop on the verge of leaving him thing, all the way from Serpico.

Watching tv series House Of Cards, a lot like company politics--very much alike--everyone wants to be in the box seat before pressing the button to unleash the power beneath at the right (best possible) time.:-|

What were you expecting, Transformers? I think they were trying to produce a more meaningful movie than something to chew popcorn to. Which they did. Amazing performances and movie overall.

Europa Report (2013) - how a sci-fi movie should be. No zombies, no fights with aliens, no Bruce Willis or Brad Pitt.

This is not a popcorn flick, btw. It's a pretty serious movie in the "found footage" style.

A privately funded mission to Europa with disastrous results but a very motivated team.

Sentinel, I watch Europa Report a couple months back...most missions doesn't end well and this is one of them. However, I find it to be a bit lacking...maybe it's just me.

I watch Disconnect last night.

Disconnect in this wired world of ours.

What's more, i liked the scientific mindset of the people shown, their overriding thirst for knowledge. No silly politics taking over everything, or egos fighting each other, or the silly Bruce Willis cowboy stuff as in Armageddon or was it Deep impact ? None of the Will Smith heroics.

These were scientists on a mission, just like the first Rendezvous with Rama novel. Not some trigger-happy cowboys put onto a spaceship on some mission with loads of dynamite and machine-guns.

Anyway, to each his own. I really needed this to take my mind away from BB.

I have Wolf of Wall Street but I keep finding other things to do. I'm saving it for when I can really enjoy it, I've heard nothing but great things.

I was set to yesterday but had to watch Dolgo dispatch of Rafa, what a match!
Back to the movies folks. :)

Have you watched Moon?

The Ugly American

Its basically a story of how the US came to be involved in Viet Nam. The names are changed of course. But, its so worth watching to see a young Marlon Brando at work. The way he commands a scene is just amazing. 8/10
