Hoping Federer can reach the final, not expecting an easy match...but Cilic is not as great of a mover as Monfils, so some of these impossible shots Monfils was returning Cilic won't be able to. He doesn't have that intimidation factor, but he can hit a ball for sure.

If Federer looks as uninspired as he did in the first two sets today, then I like Cilic to win in 4.
Bummed that these two are playing in the semis though. Two of my favorites out of today's crop of players. I'd be happy to see either of them win, but only one is going to get the chance to make the finals

Man, I feel for bad for Fed. He's had the toughest draw I've ever seen on his way to the Final.

Federer's serve hasn't been that great this entire USO...
If Cilic isn't playing at a high level, a normal ******* should be able to win.
I think both players are worthy of being a finalist. Let's not forget that both Cilic and Federer pushed Djokovic to the limit (5 sets) at Wimbledon.

What does the Cilic of today have that has gotten him this far?
A simple run down will do.
It could get rained out on Saturday. So, Federer, after the fives sets could have more time to recover. Mentally, I don't know if that is good or bad if he is on a high.
I don't know about Cilic given that same scenario with the possible extra time due to my previous note about lack of information.

It is on topic. Cilic is not ranked in the top 10, which means Fed has had one of the easiest draws in history to reach the final.
Yet, no one comments on this? At this time last year there were a load of threads created sooking about Nadal's draw.

Not sure if you're serious about that. I've seen at least 20 posts about the same thing. Why are you guys so upset about something as trivial as the draw? You get some good ones, and you get some bad ones. The best of the tournament stay to play, the rest go home. It's very simple.

I don't think Cilic is athletic enough to defend like Monfils can, and I think his backhand is more of a liability than Gael's. Fed in 3.

I think he would rather lose 10 RG finals than lose to Cilic. It would just be superb.
If Cilic has learnt something from the Nole Wimbledon match then he can win. Great player but has always choked. Would be nice for him to make the final.
The other big factor is the match being at night. Fed has played all his matches at night. In fact most of his summer has been at night. Don't know if that will play a role.

Fun fact, Federer has most top 10 wins this year(12). More than Djokovic(9) and more than Nadal(6). Looking at those stats who got to play more serious opponents?

Do you really need a motivational letter to why Youzhny and Gasquet are not tougher than Monfils and Cilic? These guys are rollin. Youzhny and Gasquet are easy putaways for the big 3 no matter what form they are in. Cilic is gonna be very tough for Federer to handle if he deals with the pressure of being in a Slam SF.

Believe it or not, I would prefer Novak to lose to Cilic than to Federer in the final.
Media, sponsor and fanatics hype machine would be unbelievable if Federer wins. No sane person wants that. Also I don't want favoritism and rigged cakewalk draws to be rewarded.
One fluke slam by Cilic is nothing compared to that. Also Cilic seems to be a nice guy. Always friendly and respectful towards Novak.

Looking how both matches panned out, I'm not sure Murray would've been any tougher for Fed than Monfils. Monfils could give Djokovic a run for the money if he faced him in this kind of form in the QF. Cilic is equally tough in the SF as Nishikori.

This is not soccer.
Also Novak beat Croatian players so many times (I think he is undefeated so far), so one loss would not be the end of the world.
This being said, it would a bit more pressure on both if they meed in the final, which might affect the quality of play.
That is why I would prefer it is someone else Novak plays in the final (but not Fed
- impossible now I know).

Federer in 4 but this is not at all easy to predict. Depends on which Federer turns up.

Monfils played a better match than anyone Rafa faced before the finals in his USO runs. Ranking isn't everything...

No, Federer was that bad especially in the second set, that he allowed Monfils to play that way.
Rafa otoh, was in such strong from that he disposed of top 10 players like they were nothing. Last year Gasquet was playing really well, some of the best tennis of his career beating both Raonic and Ferrer, but still couldn't stand a chance against Rafa in that form.
Federer has been uninspiring to say the least with his form so far this year. There is a legitimate argument that the only reason he is in the semi's is because of how weak his draw is. You tell me who was going to take Nadal down last year before the final? or 2010?

Well he was playing better than Robredo last year that's for sure. Gasquet was playing alright but nothing too special, it was off the back of two 5 setters as well. Monfils was playing better than him as well.
No one would of, because the tournaments were weak...
Federer's draw is at the same level as Nadal's for the most part. All 3 were cake really. Whether Cilic can play lights out or not will determine if Federer had a better draw or not.
