New Prince P7000 Stringing Machine

Hi guys! Thought you all might like to see the new Prince stringing machine. One of my friends was stringing for Prince at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany. He was kind enough to share a couple of pics. Check it out!

Saw them in use today at the BB&T Atlanta Open. They look even sleeker in person. The stringers also mentioned they are fairly light and easy to disassemble and transport. As a frame of reference I'd say they are only about 80% of the size of the Wilson Baiardo (I was surprised by that!).

I did not get names as I was speaking with about three of them while they were stringing during the Sunday qualies. The conversation was brief but I came away with the following: 1-super machine; 2-not for retail sale yet; 3-not selling the machines after the tourney; and 4-as such machines go, easy to transport.

Yep. The ghost and the p6000 were made in the same factory in Taiwan. Heck, the clamps are the exact same, as is the supports, and electronic module. I'm guessing this new machine is the same case.

All 3 of them are great guys. I got to string with them at the Eddie Herr last year, when we tested the original prototype.

It is on-sale now for $5k for the four-point mounting, it is definitely from the same oem as ALPHA, I have the tool case sold by alpha, they are the same.

I've strung on a prototype for the 7000 at last year's Eddie Herr tournament. The clamp bases on the Ghost are more like the Prince 5000 and 6000 machines, which have a small "button" to release the clamp base. The new 7000 clamp bases feature a huge "button," which is better IMO.

The clamps are the same design as the ones used when they were the machine of choice at Wimbledon.

Understandable. I just wanted to point out some of the differences in the machines despite the fact that they are produced at the same factory.

The Prince 6000 is my favorite of the Star5, Baiardo and Gamma ELS 8800. If the Ghost clamps are close to the Prince 6000, I will be very happy.

The Prince 7000 sounds superior to the Ghost by all accounts , but it is overkill for what I need. And the Ghost is overkill for what I need. ;)

At $2645 the Ghost just seems like a very good value.

Does anyone know whether the clamps from the 7000 would fit a 6000? It looks like they could. I own a 6000 (which I love, and it is more than I need) and wonder whether adding new clamps down the road would be possible. Thanks

Strung my first frame on the Ghost tonight after setting it up - it took about 30 minutes to put together.

The Ghost and Prince 6000 seem to have the same clamps, which is a nice upgrade to my Apex II. I haven't seen a Prince 7000 in person, but I would have bought a Prince 6000 had the Ghost not been available.

Do you mean that you would have purchased a 6000 over a 7000 for some reason (rather than waiting a few months for the 7000)? I, for one, like the fact that the 6000 can work as a tabletop. I ended up keeping mine on a moveable workbench so that I can keep it in a closet while not in use (and out of my girlfriend's field of vision:) Anyway, the new clamps seem to be one of two significant upgrades on the 7000 -- the other being the new brake. How did you like the Ghost, btw? That was on my radar screen before I finally pulled the trigger on the 600.

I absolutely love the Prince 6000, and just meant I would had to save aniother $1200 to purchase it.

The 7000 is way beyond my needs and had the Ghost not existed, I would have saved up a bit more and bought the 6000.

The auto table lock is pretty sweet. The fact you can toggle it off is even nicer. I'm not sure I need the auto table lock feature, but strung a 99S on the machine last night and it was definably noticeable.

For the money, the Prince 6000 is a very nice machine, but the Ghost saved me some money,, and it is also very nice. The Customer Support fro Alpha can't be beat IMO, and that really is the main reason I choose the Ghost over the 6000.

Thanks for the response, and congrats on your new machine. I consider all of these high-end machines luxury items...even those that cost $1,000 or so less than the most expensive models. I strung on a Babolat Star 3 for years, and I like my 6000 every bit as much as that one...in fact, probably more. Happy stringing

Did you get an answer on this? My friend's 6000 has a clamp that is sticking pretty bump. It looks like you could simply swap out the clamps on a 6000 with the newer clamps of the 7000. I hope that is the case anyway.

I did take a close look at the pictures on page 14.

The mounting arms look very similar to the Ghost. They even have the same embedded logos at 6 o'clock (the "smile") and at 12 o'clock (the three "smiles" that form a "curved" triangle).

Nope. I didn't get an answer on this, but it's encouraging to hear that the 7000 clamps would likely work (in the event that my clamps failed...so far they've been super solid). Thanks a million!
And fwiw, I think that the 6000 had too short of life to get the respect it deserves.

that Prince 7000 machine - so it comes in two flavors? The 6 point mount and 2-point mount (sometimes also known as 4-point mount). Or the 6-point and 2-point are different models?

Same model, just two different mounting systems--either the 7000 with the 6 pt. or the 7000 with the 4 pt. I believe the rest of the machine is the same. You can check either the Prince catalog or the tennis machines dot com website.

What is the advantage of the 6 pt versus the 4 pt? I imagine it is usually less stress on the racquet with the 6 pt. Reason why I ask is that there is a new Prince 7000 for sale at $3499 but it's only a 4 pt mounting system. Is it really that much of a risk stressing the racquet too much on a 4 pt? Also, I'm a bit confused as I've read that a 4 pt is really a 2 pt.......is this an accurate statement? Is the 4 pt mounting system hold the racquet in 4 places, or just 2 places?

I think I've answered my question, or at least part of it:

"A tennis stringing machine will either come in a 2, 4, or 6-point mounting system. This basically refers to the number of points that come into contact with the racquet’s frame to secure it in place. 2 and 4-point machines hold a frame only at the throat and head, which makes it quicker and more convenient. However, the less supports there are, the more a racquet’s frame is distorted. Since the stringing process adds a lot of stress to the racquet frame, this can be a potential problem for oversize racquets. Not that there’s anything wrong with a 2-point system, which is often found on most basic models, but if you’re looking for something more secure with added stability, a 4 or 6-point system will meet your needs. Extra features can include plastic or rubber surfaces to protect the finish and mounts that can be adjusted."

So it appears a 4 pt mount holds the racquet only at the throat and head but I'm thinking the 4 point has two mounts at both the throat and the head of the racquet versus a 2 pt with only 1 at each location. So is the 4 point mounting system still good enough to prevent the racquet from being stressed too much? I believe the Prince 7000 is a sweet deal but is it on sale because it has an inferior mounting system to the 6 pt?

Also, I've notice there is a used Babolat 5 Star for sale in my area for $2,800. Perhaps I should check that out too? Kind of afraid to go with a used machine though.

I bought one of the P7000s with 4 point mounting system about a year ago. The machine is wonderful and the deal is a great one. It's a really solid machine and the mounting system is fast and clean so strings don't get caught up. I wouldn't be concerned about 4 pt vs. 6 pt. My previous machine was 6 pt and I never noticed any difference in racquet head distortion.
