Remember Ostapenko?

Enceladus

Legend
Not the one that has a 7-14 win-loss balance in the 2019 season.
Let's remember of her famous way to the title at the French Open 2017 :happydevil::

QF: Ostapenko vs. [11.] Wozniacki 4:6, 6:2, 6:2

SF: Ostapenko vs. [30.] Bacsinszky 7:6(4), 3:6, 6:3

F: Ostapenko vs. [3.] Halep 4:6, 6:4, 6:3

Trophy presentation

She's a female tennis player whose FH is stronger than Muzza's FH! o_O:happydevil:

This is a case where a "Remember ______?" thread like this is truly warranted. Slam winner two years ago, and haven't heard a peep from her since.

I remember saying at the time that she was too cocky about her serve which looked like it needed work and one of the two resident SJWs objected to it. But she has fallen off a cliff since then. Just because a player won a slam with a one dimensional style doesn't mean it can be repeated. Ostapenko has to develop a more well rounded game with more high percentage style. Else she's gonna keep losing.

pretty sure I said back then that she's a classical fluke. Plays low-margin tennis, stars aligns for two weeks and plays well above her means, disappears thereafter. The early success run may not have helped instill the attitude needed to build consistency.

who knows, maybe she'll stay ranked 20–30 for some more years and then fluke another slam in 2023.

^ This.

She plays high risk tennis. She might get hot and win another slam or crash out first week for 8 consecutive slams. You never know with that kind of player.

I saw Ostapenko play doubles at the U.S. Open. She had gained some noticeable weight, which isn't going to help her movement. I like her spunky personality, but she's 2-4 at majors this year and ranked #75. Something big will have to change for her if she ever wants to crack the top 10 again.

tbf she followed that up with a QF run at Wimbledon, which she bettered to a SF showing the following season..plus Miami final

but yeah other than those two Wimbledons she is 8-8 at majors since winning the French

Her serve is a big weakness. Tough to stay at the top with such a major flaw in your game.

The Muguruzu-like ball bashers are being countered by players with variety and they haven't got an answer. Cookie cutter power hitters are not going to dominate amongst these players that are developing slice, drop shots and volleys to take away their time and power advantage.

She was quite the hyper aggressive troll and smack talker too IIRC. Has she lost that too yet?

Remember (fill in the blank)? Not just Ostapenko. At least 10 current players qualify.

Also... and coming soon: Remember When Serena Was Mentally Tough and Won Slams?
