Federer 2006 vs Djokovic 2016 at RG: 10 Match Series?

Djokovic played a better match in the finals, but it was against an infinitely easier match-up. Will go with Djokovic, slightly, in a vacuum as Federer's backhand was hilariously bad at points in the 2006 F.

10 match catches on

Peak Mike Tyson vs Peak Lennox Lewis in a 10 matches series would resemble peak Federer vs Peak Djokovic, a guy who peaked early vs a guy who gets better with age?

Whats your answer for this ?

If he faced 2016 Murray in that final, he would have a real chance to win with a triple bagel though. Even 2014-2015 Federer was destroying this Murray everywhere.

Nobody except prime Nadal on clay was stopping 2006 Federer. For sure not a version of Djokovic that lost a set to the worst slam finalist of all time.

I reckon the idea of the bad BH performance is a bit overstated too anyway.

If Tyson was naturally taller I may take him but at 5'10 he would find it very difficult getting past Lewis height and reach.

I’ll go with Fred here. Yeah, his BH was bad in the 06 F, but it was made to look a lot worse than it was due to who he was playing.

Tyson has beaten quite a few people in the 6'3 range, so why rule him out just cause LL is 2 inches taller than them? It would be interesting to see what happens, Tyson pre prison and Tyson post prison are different you know.

None of them quite make use of there size or have the combined athleticism like Lewis/Vitali/Wlad etc etc. Lewis has been stopped a couple times too and been hurt multiple other times so it's not impossible that Tyson catches him with something big it's heavyweight.

Yeah...... Tyson was asked by someone if he could beat the top guys today and he said he doesn't know.... he said he wanted to hurt people in the ring in his peak and so he would do just that, but at the same time athletes do get bigger and better with time, have better medicines and juices to help them...... he said this himself.....

I think it is very impressive that being 5'10 Tyson raised so much hell in the heavyweight division.... wish he had not lost to Holyfield and LL.... He would have been like GOAT .... His aura was too good, baddest man on the planet

BH was quite bad in easy situations. There were a quite a few poor BH returns as well. That said, Fedr’s first service game of the 2nd set up 40-0 with two points played that he had a big advantage in positioning after set up killed him. He lost confidence after that game, though likely wouldn’t have mattered.

That said, Federer likely wins RG if his opponent were 2016 Sir Murphy, but overall, Djokovic had the stronger RG campaign.

Fedr 2006: 54.5% of points won, 1.31 DR
Djoko 2016: 56.9% of points won, 1.42 DR

Numbers would be closer if the finals’ opponents were switched but still favor Djoko.

I watched the entire 2006 RG final recently and let's just say, nostalgia has seriously got the best of people over the years.

Federer wins easily in 2016 conditions. 2006 conditions would be closer, but not like Djokovic is a savant in heat and sun, so Fed likely still wins. Obviously I wouldn't favor Djokovic over Federer anywhere besides daytime Miami so it goes without saying.

pre-prison tyson had a chance v anyone. i do think a skilled big man like lennox, or certainly ali, could avoid the early knockout and make it interesting, but at the same time, he had a chance to knock out anyone in history imo in the first 3-4 rounds...wasn't so much his power, but his incredible speed, head movement, and volume of power shots from all angles that made him so dangerous. kind of a coin flip in the early going at least, against even the very best in the sport.
