18 brilliant shots of Alcaraz

To be honest this guy reminds me young Djokovic. Slides effortlessly on court, takes ball so early on BH wings, can change direction of ball at his will, returns well, slaps forehand winners. A complete package like Djokovic with even more power. To me Sinner and this guy look like next ATGs.

Ouch, hopefully that acne sots itself out because that is not a good thumbnail.

Me think both, Sinner and Alcaraz are unfortunate because of Tsitsi and Rublev. Once Djoker and Rafa depart, the hole'll be quickly filled in with the Greek and Russian firepower. We may be talking about the big three, Tsitsi, Rublev and Thiem/Medvedev from 2022 on for at least 5-8 years. How immature Alcaraz copes with those "Next Generation Big Three/Four" remains the question. The era of Hewitt, Becker and other stunning teens who stormed in and kicked the top players' arses is over. Top pro tennis is more complex today than before and more guarded by the elite too. .

Where did you get that from? I saw him hit 20 FH winners in 2 sets yesterday against Mannarino. The forehand is excellent.

It undoubtedly is elite.

But he has a tendency to cough it short whenever he is attacked on that wing. And in general is not as authoritative on neutral balls as he is with his backhand.

Watch Zverev vs Alcaraz, Acapulco 2021, for what I am saying.

I am not convinced. I like him but I think everyone under 20 who makes it to the top 100 is now called the next ATG. Need to see something more of him.

His forehand looked useless vs. Nadal.
But he hit some very powerful backhand winners going crosscourt.
And his wheels are elite.

It'll probably get better. Acne usually disappears in your early twenties. Wouldn't surprise me if he would grow up to be one of the best looking guys on tour in his late 20s. Succes and money usually help with that, and he's got good bone structure to start out with.

Did he “control the match” on clay against Rafa just like Djokovic did at RG 2006?

Yeah, Thiem's face also didn't look great when he started out, but it healed itself.

From what I've seen Alcaraz looks like young Djokovic added with Nadal' power and explosiveness. Mentally he is very tough already. Next big thing no doubt.
