2007 TW Year End Awards

I think one should at least be a semi-pro before being considered the GOAT.

That's a good point.

Leanne, yes you were a little late, but that was not the only issue. There is actually a discussion about you in post No. 156 above. See if you can find it!

I have a feeling that everyone is done with nominations so we're gonna launch those last boats half-full. I guess I'll nominate Loco4Tennis into something as a last touch, for posting a good link of Safin stroke analysis earlier this evening. Good job everybody!

Hey -- there is someone called Tennis Mastery, is there not. an author and coach, USPTA who gives advice.

IS he nominated in the most helpful cat ?

sobad,
i dont understand why the 2007 award have to be over in the same year !

The entire year should count.

I think for categories that dont have ten nominees, we shoud not rush and put in anybody. Stagger them out. Finaize the list by Dec 31st and do the voting in the first week.

SoBad,

Do we have a 'most entertaining thread of the year' award? I nominate the Leyton Hewitt switching to 95 racquet thread started by OrangeOne. =)

Happy Holidays!

On behalf of the Awards Committee, I wish to thank everyone who attended our holiday party this year. All of us at the committee have enjoyed it a great deal, and we certainly hope that all the attendees had a fantastic time.

Not everyone believes in “sixth sense”. I do. And now I also believe in “fifth slam”. I praise the collective effort of all involved to revitalise this subforum and re-create the unique atmosphere of the “General Pro Discuss” at slam time, at holiday time, however briefly.

We would also like to thank the grounds keepers for doing a superb job of the cleanup after the party. One cannot help but feel that everyone is refreshed and ready for Christmas now. Happy Holidays everyone!:)

P.S. This is sort of a secret, so please don’t talk about it, but if everybody continues to be a good sport, we might look into bonus award by doing a little scientific analysis around the award ceremony, maybe pull everybody into some spreadsheets and do some charts, but let’s not talk about it yet…;)

P.P.S. Also included FAQs into the OP of the polls, because it seems many people have some of the same questions again and again.

Looks like the GOAT thread has got axed :-(

P.S. looks like someone is trying to have this thread axed as well....

Ok.. SOBad, are you so hungry for recognition, that you and your pet cub ananda will go around making threads that put you in the center of attention?. I mean seriously, are you 12 or something?

Ananda.. You need to be your own man/woman and stop being a sheep.. Are you so boring that you need to be the *** hag of some child that is crying out for attention?. Doesn't say alot for you if this is the case!

Chris, if you have a personal problem with anyone on the list, keep it to yourself. No need to drag me into it. You seem to be full of hatred. I am not playing your game. Best wishes and no hard feelings from my side. Hope you have a nice xmas.

p.s. I try to see the good side in people. sobad _is_ quite funny, at least to me, when he tries to position Safin as the Goat and some unheard of russians kids as slam winners in 2008. First, his Fedophobia irritated me, then i got over it. TBH, one or 2 of his posts offended me, but i refuse to paint him black for that.

iirc, you are quite an expert on racquets, and i enjoyed some posts on painting racquets blue (iirc). I would like to continue to respect you, while at the same time respecting other members, too. Peace.

^^^^ I don't look for people to respect me. If you like my knowledge on racquets and paintjobs then that is great. But I worry when someone like yourself hangs on every word someone like sobad says and then follow's him around like a puppy dog..

I am not full of hate, but simply bring to light the sillyness that these boards sometimes bring.. To make 10 threads of different polls and put yourself in everyone of them suggests that you are obviously looking for some recognition and attention?

I am not the first person to have an issue with this member putting himself on some kind of stage for us to admire and wonder in his "socalled sobad" greatness..

Get a life for F***'s sake.....

Ok, Chris. Point taken.

p.s. I will stop following sobad around like his puppy dog, in fact, I shall bite him next time i see him! :)

^^^ Goes without saying that the best single post would be my racquet selection guide. Not even up for debate, so it wasn't made a category.

ananda, don’t bite me please, but if something I had said in the past still bothers you, give a hint, maybe misunderstanding can be easily resolved. Hope it’s not something I said about cricket or Somdev Devvarman, because those are shaky grounds for me indeed.

“chris_in_japan”, we don’t appreciate foul language in this annual awards thread, and I think you’re the first to introduce it, after over a hundred posts. However, since it appears that the question of why SoBad appears in some of the awards polls has been bothering you for some time and you’ve asked it on numerous occasions in various awards threads, I’ll go ahead and help you. Since you seem unwilling to read through this very thread to find your answer, I suggest you read the “Frequently Asked Questions” that you can find in each of the poll threads, as a shortcut.

Is there not a best post award? Or is that too much work?

It's not too much work. Most work is getting the thing launched and organised. If there are people interested in getting more 2007 award polls out, and there aren't too many people objecting it, we could certainly do it. J011yroger's OP on racquet selection is of course naturally accepted as a nomination, anything you had in mind forzainter to compete with that?

I don't know about the "ananda" lover's quarrel, lol...whatever helps you sleep at night I guess...

Chris_in_Japan; I have been following your questioning (and several other's) of the self-important quality of the OP in these polls and I can only say......"you are posting what many are thinking".

That would be a GREAT poll. "A) Are sobad and ananda 12 years old? B) Under the age of 12? C) Over the age of 12?

edit: D) Are they the SAME person???

Inquiring minds want to know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, but you are not one to blow your own trumpet and make up polls just to put yourself in them are you Jo11y? ;)

No, not at all. I mean it goes without saying that I am an attention \V/\v/hore but doing stuff like that just makes you appear desperate for attention. I prefer to get mine the old fashioned way, by being awesome, and if some would take that as trumpet blowing, then so be it.

Yes, but I guess if I do bring attention to it, he seems to think that any press is good press.. If we leave him alone, he will seek attention. If we highlight the fact that he is seeking attention, then he gets it..

We are damned if we do, and damned if we dont!..

LOL - I have no idea how I got associated with Sobad. I did _not_ nominate him (that was AM234), nor have i voted for him even once.
Praps, i got confused with Zets or AM, or someone else.

Anyway, I don't mind being misassociated. Just leave me out, henceforth.

Sobad, i have already pointed out whatever i did not agree with in respective posts long ago, I have no outstanding issues with you. And I don't want to carry issues over from one thread to another with anyone.

(Yes, I did join that Office thread for which I apologize to all. I did not intend offending anyone. I am certainly not proud of whatever I posted there. Sorry, CC.)

That's a long post, now.

Enjoy your holidays, forgive and forget.

This is true, and the OP knows it. I don't think that he does it to seek attention per se, but to take as many people as possible for a ride. In fact, that has been his whole game (setting up a stage for posters to argue, and then watching it contentedly from the sidelines) since he came back after being banned a few months ago.

He is among the more sophisticated trolls, and people find that harder to notice. I just put him on the Ignore List but, unfortunately, Tennis Warehouse does not have an option which hides threads started by the ignored person. If they added that option, I wouldn't have to worry if the OP spends all his waking hours on this board.

Gentlemen (the ones with complaints in the last dozen or so posts above), before this lively discussion of what you perceive as my personality flaws gets too strange, let me say a few words to you on a more serious note. I don’t recall ever conversing with any of you previously, which is why I doubt there could possibly be any problems between us of personal nature. Therefore, I would venture to guess that your displeasure is related to the way the awards process was carried out this year, or perhaps the very fact that it was carried out at all.

Believe me, I understand why you may feel irritated – after all, in the midst of the quiet season, the subforum turned into a zoo flooded with polls and all sorts of discussions, you don’t know the facilitator, the facilitator gets nominated for all sorts of categories, while you don’t nominate anyone and don’t get nominated for anything. While I made my best effort to be an impartial facilitator (I did not reject any nominations, and hardly got to make any myself), of course there is all sorts of bias in the awards process. Furthermore, there is no question that some of the bias is related to the person facilitating the process. It is only natural that those posters who had previously interacted with the facilitator on the forum feel comfortable pitching in with nominations, suggestions, etc. However, please recognise that it is hardly something the facilitator himself can control.

The question then emerges in some minds (perhaps the ones that for some reason take these awards more seriously than what the awards probably deserve – note the smiley attached to this thread) – why aren’t we having the well-known and widely respected pre-Feb2004 poster X (who has vast tennis and forum knowledge, and what not) facilitating the awards this year? That is a perfectly valid question, but it is a question for poster X to answer, not for me.

I know that I enjoyed the awards process last year when Breaker facilitated, and I know that many other forum members enjoyed it as well. While most of us had forgotten about it, a couple of months ago a very well-liked and widely respected 2004 member slice bh compliment bumped up the old memories by reminding all of us that it was about time to get the nominations rolling, should we wish to repeat the awards process this year. People then fondly talked about it for a little bit, yet months passed by and no one did anything (including all those knowledgeable pre-Feb2004 posters), until another popular guy Jo11yRoger bumped it up last week reminding us that it’s now or never for the 2007 awards. I happened to be around, and that call was enough for me (an unknown guy whose current popularity on the forum is hovering somewhere just below the level of popularity of a stray dog at a farmers market) to get the ball rolling, with repeated pleas for others to join in facilitating, (i.e., summarising nominations and launching polls). Again, no one came through, and it was up to me to carry the process forward on my own.

At present the nominations are long in the past, the polls are out, some are gone, the humourous “therapy office” is closed, and much of the discussion that had transpired around this year’s awards now only lives in the memories of those who were there to watch the show live. I know that many have enjoyed (I know I did) this little holiday event we had, and for those who still feel unhappy about it, I suggest you discuss amongst yourselves what can be done to make it more enjoyable for you next year, if indeed it is to be done again in the future.

Again, many thanks to all who participated, and happy holidays to everyone! (In other words, c'mon i'ts xmas u guys peace out lololz!@!:))

Ok, I like these categories, we need to get this going for 2015...
If no one organizes the awards process by the time we’re into the second half of December, I might do it. As I recall, I basically used the same categories as Breaker did the year before. Maybe we can improve the list of categories. Will start a thread on that shortly.

So, you are indeed an attention seeker ( I cared to read who and why has upped a thread made and last upped in .... 2007)?

I am awaiting your "Ups, I didn't realize".

Or the usual in such cases mock up of the same.

I see some Federer fanatics are getting salty with the slamless years piling up as their idol ascends into prime. Kind of funny, but also sad in a way.

We’ll need someone to translate this into English to foster dialogue.
