Schwartzman outdoes Simon to take SF slot today with even a 2nd serve ace much to Gilles chagrin @The Green Mile .:p Struff Enuf threatening for another slot with 4-6, 7-6, 4-2 15-30 lead with Gasquet serving.

Gasquet now has had 7 MPs. Whoa Struff volley and Reechard from closer to the baseline then service volley it down the middle of the court for another MP. Fault....and big 2nd unreturned and Reechard the lion hearted move onto SF. Struff heroically held back Gasquet, but succumbs on 8th match point. Reechard totally clutch with his MP ace in breaker.

Gasquet, sporting a questionable half-blond haircut, takes the third-set tiebreaker over North Rhine-Westphalia native Jan-Lennard Struff, who suffers a fourth quarter-final defeat at ATP level this season.

All eyes now turn to the match between polyglot Canadian guitarist Vasek Pospisil and Parisian basketball enthusiast Gael Monfils.

Could have tasty SFs if Edmund comes through to face Gasquet and Gurufils comes through to play with Diego.

Gas-K does not take the gas, unlike his Wimby'14 2R gag vs Quick Nick.

Diego happy loser today. Monfils 6-3, 6-4

Interview:
didn't want to let Diego control points and was aggressive going in. Also tired so this lessened time on court. Hoping for big victory tomorrow.

Edmund wins over Gasquet with his trusty serve, 91% first serve points won with 16 aces was the difference. Life in the Strong Era.

One set all in Antwerp, Monfils taking the first 6-3, and Edmund levelling it up in a second-set breaker.

More dancing between sets. I sure hope there wasn't any in Moscow.

Exquisite volley from Edmund to help earn a mini-break in the third set breaker

Cancelled out by an unforced error off the Edmund forehand, 3-3

Sensational forehand down the line from Edmund to take it! The Yorkshireman wins his first ATP title in his second final to lift himself up to 14th in the rankings. Monfils, meanwhile, is up to 33rd in the rankings, and at 28th in the race, he is now likely to be seeded at next year's Australian Open.

Wow, congrats to Kyle on finally crossing that line to join the ATP Winners' Circle and beating a difficult and tricky opponent in the seasoned Monfils ! He becomes the 13th player to win his maiden ATP title this season and the 2nd this week along with Tsitsipas. His victory in the 3rd edition of Antwerp ends the recent run of French dominance at that event.

More importantly for us UK tennis fans, he becomes the only British player to win a tour level title this year and only the 3rd British man this century after Henman and Murray! Finally he begins to justify being ranked British #1. :)

Monfils won Abu Dhabi this year, which will drop off before the Australian Open seeds come out.

Right enough, I'd forgotten about that. Still has a decent chance of making the top 32 if he can defend a portion of his points there and pick up some at Vienna and Paris.

Insane! A few weeks back I was watching Tomic/Fognini in a final This is infinitely better.
LOL. Give both some credit; Tomic for his comeback and guts - Flabio for a great year at his age. I'd also rate Khach v Med Kremlin SF as better match and quality than this one. Greater intensity too even though it didn't have the end of this great match.

Kudos to Edmund's coach Fredrik Rosengren who has taken him from chump to champion in one year. Kyle still developing, but a year ago he always had bad patches, not anymore. You could see how much the focus took out of Edmund as he broke down on the way to the coaches after the win. The whole box was affected. Love the last two points with long intense rallies (remember Monfils wants to play for the final Davis Cup title in November and is in Noah's dog house). Edmund at the end of the one powered a deep backhand to get defending for his life Monfils error just below the net cord. Next rally Edmund had the fortitude to finally pull the trigger on a big forehand winner. Just so clutch under pressure. Great, great match from both players.

If Murray had Edmund's serve, forehand, and aggression would have been goat! Edmund coming along very nicely this year.:p

Maybe but Murray had already won many titles by the time he was Edmund's age. He is much mentally stronger and far more consistent than Kyle has been. Let's just hope getting his maiden title will be the kickstart Kyle needs to move forward with his career and start to build up some Murray-like consistency. That would truly be awesome!
