We can throw out Rome because Shapo's game in tatters. The Auz Open is probably the best match to use for reference. The score is a bit misleading, but Djokovic basically crushed Shapo. Nole blinked in the 3rd set and gave away a break of serve and Shapo was off to the races which shows he is a threat if given the opportunity.

Shapo was hitting the cover off the ball coming into the match and Djoko amazing neutralized his game shutting down the winners. I was stunned at just how well he handled Shapo.

Coming into this final Shapovalov is playing much, much better and can actually rally quite a bit. Monfils showed that sheer pushery no longer will work against Shapo who now builds points and even finishes them off at net. Melbourne is still fresh in my mind and so hard to see this one slipping through Djoko's hands.

The one hope for Shapo is that Djokovic is still sick for the final. You can still here it in his voice and he definitely was coasting in his match with Dimitrov only bring the energy and his best at key moments. So if Shapo can hang in the rallies and work the ball as he's done with the rest of the field he does have a chance to force Djokovic to play aggressively in order to shorten points. Djokovic has shown fine signs of doing just that game here (see Tsitsipas match), but I'm not so sure this return to Peakovic 2015/2016 levels is sustainable. For that reason I'm throwing a bomb on this one and going Shapo in 3 with Nole fading at the end.

Wimbledon R3 vs Hurkacz 2nd set
Rome SF vs Schwartzman 2nd set
AO 4th vs Medvedev 2nd set
Doha SF vs RBA 2nd set

Against RBA was the only one that he went on to drop the match.

He is 23-6 overall in tiebreakers going back to his revival at Wimbledon 2018. (Other 2 lost TBs were USO 2018 2nd round vs Sandgren 3rd set and Canada 2018 3rd round vs Tsitsipas 2nd set - which he also dropped the match).

Shapos erratic playstyle plays well into Djokovic's hands. Djokovic has handled the matchup pretty easily thus far but the job has to get done. Djokovic should have no business losing another final here.

If we look at stats from Paris and Stockholm that capture Shapo's vein of form....55.5% points won in Paris with 44.4% on return. Stockholm was 57.8% points won with 43.8% return points won, plus a peak Roddick like 74.6% on serve points. I'll be surprised if Canucks don't find his level extremely pleasing, but not sure he matches up well with Djoko. Shapo is definitely in Mad Lad territory entering this match so anything could happen.

This tournament has been about as interesting as watching paint dry. Shapo has been the most exciting thing to watch so far. My hope is that he manages to make a match of it at least. My ultimate hope is that he holds the trophy at the end of it.
