2020 Prostaff update

Just wondering if anybody has any news, info or secrets about updates to the Prostaff line next year. Really intrigued if the “FeelFlex” will get implemented, sounds really good. A 60-62 RA Prostaff would truly be awesome! Anything???

Since the PS is now married to Roger Federer, I’d be surprised if Wilson substantially changed it. Everyone will know that RF doesn’t use the redesign and sales will go the way of the ”tuxedo version.”

I would guess some cosmetic changes and maybe some new versions for lower-level players, but the RF97 will stay about the same. When RF finally retires, they will re-launch the line with a younger pro and substantial tech changes as a ”next generation” design.

I hope so, the clash and V7 blades have been a breath of fresh air, they’re just fun to play with. I think I saw a picture a while back of a black PS97 with the grey freeflex side pj.

I assume they’re going to leave the RF alone while the rest get the freeflex treatment. That way they can move some younger guys like Dimitrov to the PS line and differentiate it from the RF line. At the very least Dimitrov can stop using Fed’s rejected paintjobs.

A lower RA RF autograph would be great, 68 is too stiff and not needed for such a hefty frame.
Maybe a bit of a re release of some of the Laver Cup choices. The current blue one looks great.

I have info:

All black paint, still velvet or matte. No more CV, idk if Feelflex is part of the package though.

RF97 340g
PS97 331g
PS97L 306g
PS97UL 270g

That's all the info I got for now.

EDIT: THIS IS WRONG. WAS GIVEN FALSE INFO DIRECTLY FROM WILSON REPS.

Those must be strung weights? I can't see them making the regular PS97 330+ grams or the "light" version north of 300g.

Well, considering that strings usually add 15g to the racquet, it seems possible that those are strung weights (except for the RF), UL wilson racquets are usually really light. And those weights for the regular PS - 315g, and for the L - 290g, would match the current line.

Need to say that a 320g RF97 would be so nice.

I'm quite sure these are unstrung. I think it's a weird move too, but I cant see them releasing a 320g RF and a 250g PS97UL either

Strings are about 15g, so the RF would move to 325. Roger is getting older ... maybe he asked them to take some weight off his frame. :)

You mean the velvet that sunblock and the simple thing of picking up a ball takes off

yeah, its not working at all since it came out
in our shop, management is discussing sending several rackets back to Wilson for this reason!!
looks like crap after a few weeks of use

I wonder is cost has anything todo with this crap painjob??
does the velvet painjob cost less than the crisp smooth oven baked painjobs of the past??

Velvet PJ, beyond not lasting and peeling easily, also doesn't feel good when you grip the throat. I did notice an improvement comparing the blade v7 with the CV, but is still crap.

The “velvet paint job” is a rubberized coating designed to dampen certain vibrational frequencies. It’s a feature geared mostly toward the feel, not looks. That it peels in places is a bug, but the essential intended property remains.

I have recently switched to a Blade v7 18x20 from a Prostaff 97s 2016(previously used by Dimitrov). Still getting used to the Blade but was thinking of buying a couple of Prostaff 97 rackets just in case I don't get on with the Blade. When I enquired with Stringers' World(UK Reseller) about an L4 Prostaff 97, this was their reply: ' Unfortunately, we are no longer able to order the Pro Staff rackets as there is a new range being released this year.' I'm not overly desperate to get my hands on the Prostaff's as I think there are comparable rackets out there to try.

This right here is why I quit even demoing Wilson raquets
Yeah, getting a racquet that could be a swingweight of 334, 324 or 344 is quite a difference, let alone static weight or balance. Really disappointing, they should change factories.

Have a stack of the 2016/17 RF97 Black frames. No need for more especially if just buying a new paint job. Have had these since 16’. Paint that has been knocked off is minimal. Haven’t even come close to wearing out a bumper guard much less the frame.

I have 2 RF’s and 2 PS all 2015 year (red and black). Had a new matte black one but seemed “different” somehow compared to others so I sold it. I usually weight up the PS’s a little to about 12.1 oz. Maybe RF will endorse and play a new tweener frame and win 5 more majors!

Most likely the one you sold felt different because it was a countervail version?

Stripes on one throat. New font. Top will be braided graphite look. retail will not be glossy

I really dig the PS85 stripe throwback. I wonder if the top will be actual braided graphite with a clear coat or painted braided graphite like at the top of the 2014 PS90?

I had to move on from Wilson since their practice of factory hopping to the cheapest bidder for every production run made QC too much of a gamble. The vintage PS85 vibes are probably gonna get me to snag a few though. Well done to their design team.

Where I come from we call those Prestige MPs.

Yea, I guess if you change out the grips you can get close but not the same. No where close to the feel and connectedness to the ball you get with typical Pro Staff frames.
On a contract with Head and played with Head Edge Graphite, Head TXP, Prestige, Prestige Pro, Prestige MP. Great frames but different feel than the Pro Staff line.
Still have one of the Prestige MP Micro Gel frames. Tempted to string one up. Used to string them at 45 with several poly strings.
