Yep, Penn Championship. I hate them since I use a lot of spin.

surprised no one has noticed how heavy wilson balls are compared to penn. that makes Wilson balls tough to play with if you have a light racquet. also the Penn fly faster as a result of being lighter.

I prefer the lighter penn balls but admit Wilson seem to last a little longer. I think the extra weight of the Wilson is due to the extra felt.

I been using for the past 3 to 4 years Head/Penn ATP's ,but in the past 2 cases(probably a year now) its being a total disappointment. Balls are coming dead from the get go, they feel hard(not by cold weather) and they dont bounce pass my knees. I think after I few hit they will soften up, but that's not the case lately.
They use to be so good back when they were done in Arizona, but since they move to china QC has being awful. Without finishing my case I bough some Dunlop Grand prix and they are decent, not like ATP use to be, but they are reliable.

Too bad..

Has anyone played with the Dunlop A-Player ball that TW sells? It's their second most expensive ball and they say it's become a TW playtester favorite, but I don't see any reviews of it.

I love the A-Players!

They are extremely lively out of the can, with great diving spin. They have a similiar medium-heavy feel of the grand prixs, but are softer due to a different core. They get balder as they age so they still spin. They hold pressure for a long time compared to us opens. And, they are extremely bright.

Highly recommended.

thanks!

and I demoed your string setup and loved it. Ended up liking MSV-Co-Focus on the crosses just a bit more, but that is one sweet setup.

Great guide, I'm surprised that I didn't find this earlier . I feel that the US Open balls bounce like crazy high. Maybe it's just me. I think that the Slazenger Wimby bounce huge too.

I bought a few cans of the Technifibre X-One at a local womans pro tourney and they are a great ball. The felt is superior to Wilson US Open and the bounce is very consistent and they last a long time. I got them in Thailand where they are made but not sold locally as they are manufactured for export. Price is same as US Open here in Thailand. I use Dunlops,Wilson and by far the TF X-One was my fav

Testing..........

I prefer the Dunlop GP hc, but....^speaking of the PRo Penn USPTA ball, has anyone tried the new ProPenn Marathon?

We have a case in route to us now from Head/Penn to test. We are to compare them against the ProPenn+ and Wilson's USO ball. Will post our results once we complete the test.

Also, we just completed a review of the new Babolat RG ball, which played very well, light fast ball with good feel. The only issue is that the felt does not hold up for very long. We got 2 hrs of play before the labels and felt were gone. The ball still had plenty of bounce for another 4 hrs though.

Cheers, TennezSport

Hi All,

New to the forum. I just started playing tennis again after playing in high school and a little in college.

My problem is with the quality of tennis balls. I have bought several cans over the last couple months. Penn Championship, Penn TI, Wilson Championship, Wilson U.S. Open...

The wierdest thing keeps happening. After a short warm-up (10 min.) and a couple games into the first set, the balls will literally get out of round. They start looking like eggs and bounce side to side not straight up like it should.

While it has not been every single can, I would say it has been 6 out of 10 cans(Both Brands). I live in Southern California and I am certain the cans were pressurized when I opened them and the balls were in original shape before starting play.

Also, I realize these are not the best balls but for recreational use I have never heard or seen this happen.

Just curious if anyone has experienced these problems or has any clue to what me be happening.

Thanks in advance!

-Joe

I've also been using the Babolat RG ball for about four weeks now. I've probably used about 1/2 a case. I definitely do like the balls but I've also blown out every single ball. HOWEVER, unlike with the Dunlop GP balls of recent vintage, I've gotten more than just a couple of hours out of the balls before they pop; enough time in fact that I'm happy buying more. (Dunlop pay attention here)

I'll agree with TennezSport that the felt does seem to puff up and the labels wear off after a few hours of play. I would say they also play most similarly to the US Open balls in that they just feel lively from the get go. I've also found them to hold their bounce well. When they felt wears down and the balls start to die, they do so very quickly ala they stop bouncing well and they pop. I do wish they were numbered though so that it's easier to keep older cans and newer cans separated as the quick wear makes it hard to tell which balls are the freshest. Overall though they are a really nice ball.

Wet Tennis Ball Survey

Hello everyone,

I'm a high school student and tennis player, and for our engineering class we have to design and develop a new product, as well as conduct market research surveys. I've decided to concentrate on tennis balls for my project.

http://goo.gl/forms/OQ25iLbbSc

This is the link to the survey I created for our presentation, it's short and easy to fill out, and you don't need to input any personal information. If you could please complete it I'd very much appreciate it. Thanks for your time, and happy playing!

I've played with the ProPenn Marathon (clay) for some time and usually purchase 15-20 cases every few months for others at my club at discounted rate. I and many of my comrades think this is the best ball around. Lasts forever and ball is brighter to see as well.

any word on Tretorn serie+ control?
Spent a wonderful time yesterday reading this thread, and finally today got my outdoor hard court season opened with buddy and 2 cans to check out: Tretorn Serie (not "+" tho) and Wilson US Open. Both agreed that Wilson are a lot softer, flies and bounces good, spin friendly and to my mind - comfortable. Tretorn bounces higher and flies fasters, in first 20-30 min feels a little "concrety".

Penn ATP (golden box) were nice. Next to try - Slazenger Wimbledon.

You just have to hit it - you don't have to eat it.
