Adidas Barricade IV's - Finally Solved the Uncomfortable Left Shoe Toe Box Issue!

A blessing in disguise happened! One of the shoe laces broke. So, I bought standard 54" replacement laces.

OK, here's the trick... don't thread the initial pair of eyelets. They are the two loops made of nylon material and are near the toe box. When I skipped these and started directly with the hard plastic eyelets, it opened up the toe box immensely and alleviated the pain I was experiencing at the base knuckle of my left big toe. I've yet to play in them so I don't know if leaving those eyelets unlaced will make a difference with their stability. My initial impression is that it will not affect the structural integrity of the shoe.

I know many other people have had the same issue with the Barricade IV's. Give it a try and see if it helps.

I can see how that would work. I was very unhappy with Barricade IV's so I sold them for 50.

It makes a HUGE difference. I've been wearing them comfortably around the house all day... something I never would have done, previously. After a match, those things would be off and back in the closet.

For some reason, I continued to wear them during matches because they would looosen up just enough, during the match, to be comfortable. I also like the look and stability of the shoe.

Like you, I immediately saw the issue when I went to re-lace them. It suddenly hit me what the problem was with the tight toe box.

I can't wait to play a match in them now. I'll report back on this thread, when I have a chance.

Interesting, I thought it was only me. The way the shoe flexes it digs into the top of my left big toe also. The right one feels fine. I spent a while the other day trying to "train" the shoe to bend with a smoother arc like the right shoe. Didn't work. I'll have to try the shoelace solution.

Lol! exactly the problem you, I and a heap of others have had with this shoe. What is it with the left shoe toe area?

The shoelace thing definitely helped mine. I can wear them now and they are comfy.

I'll definitely give it a whirl, as that is the only complaint I have about this shoe. On my foot, the toes go numb, as I tie my shoes tightly. To try and alleviate it, I would loosen up all laces until the bottom eyelets had a lot of extra slack, i.e. they would tighten up eventually. That worked, but it's a pain to have to keep doing that. So I will definitely give your suggestion a try. Thanks, bud. :)

After skipping the first laces, most of the pain is gone for walking but serving or dashing still digs into your foot.

I guess the only thing left to do is sand it down a bit. They poorly designed the hard rubber part.

These shoes fit me perfectly so both feet feel the same pain.

At least they could make a second version of these. I've heard the V is somewhat different in size...

Yeah, mine just hurt on the left big toe base when walking... and mostly for the first 10 minutes or so. Skipping the first lace took the pain completely away.

Tried skipping the first lace a couple weeks back and I didn't make it out of the locker room. It hurt my toe worse.

After some more breaking in (I've never had to break in a pair of shoes this long) I tried again just walking around the house. Skipping the lace this time was slightly better than not, but it was a tad looser in the toe box. I switched between my K-Swiss and the IV and I though the K-Swiss were a little more comfortable, the IVs felt more solid for direction changes.

Well, I finally solved the issue for good!

I bought some Adidas A3 Prevails in the dark color. What a difference in comfort! These are as comfortable as the CC Feathers right out of the box. Based on the TW feedback, it seems that the soles last quite a long time, too.

I wear Barricade V's and have no problem with the left shoe toe box at all. I think the V's are more comfortable than the II's. I've never worn the IV's before so I don't know what the problem feels like.

let us know how the durability is on the prevails. a teammate of mine got them for x-mas, and has already worn holes through the soles AND the upper part of the shoes near the top of where the balls of your feet would be. the stitching just totally gave out leaving huge holes there. i have never seen anyone go through shoes like this guy, but 2 months is pretty weak.
