Adidas Ubersonic 4 Thread

If adidas puts an outsole warranty and a reasonable price for the barricade I will definitely buy a pair, what I want to know is if there will be a barricade with boost in the heel like the old ones, or straight foam.

I think full length boost isn’t a good idea cause it would be too mushy, but the foam adidas already has on the Uber 3 is just standard PU so I’m interested in the lightstrike coming to a tennis shoe correct me if I’m wrong.

It won't be too mushy. There is nothing "mushy" in the SCB.

The reason why it will be Lightstrike is that it is lighter, and the Übersonics have always been a speed oriented shoe, so the lighter weight fits the bill. Another potential reason is that Lightstrike is Adidas's own proprietary technology, while they need to pay for the Boost cushioning.

The problem with Lightstrike is: it is some sort of EVA, and all the EVAs that I know of have diminishing properties over time, unlike Boost which truly is a wonder cushioning in the sense that its performance remains pretty much the same throughout the life of the shoes (I have had running shoes with Continental rubber outer sole, which wore out before the Boost cushioning changed its properties, which is mighty impressive, as the Continental rubber is pretty durable). While that is so with any other cushioning from other brands, in the comparison between Lightstrike and Boost I expect Lightstrike to lose. That is not to say that it won't be excellent overall. It remains to be seen if it will hold up for the long haul.

The Ü3s are a fantastic shoe, and I am disappointed to see it go, as it would seem at the moment (no new colour ways as of now and almost exhausted stocks for most sizes). I just hope that whichever model the new Ü4 replaces, we will be left with at least one option for wide feet as Ü3 was.

We can discuss it here when it comes out and people start trying them out

I think I'm going to order these alongside this Hydrogen set and call it my Zebra kit:

Why did TW remove the Instagram post?

I have a feeling that zebra colourway was a prototype thing and won’t ever be on the shelves, which is good because it looked pretty terrible.

Hopefully there will be a black colourway.

Interesting. I wasn't aware of lightstrike. My favorite tennis for comfort were the adidas crazy light boost (lowtop bb shoe). It had full length boost and they never wore out (on clay.) The cushioning always stayed plush and responsive.

I still have two pairs of those: the chalk ones from 2016. Yes, Boost is quite unique in the sense that it keeps cushioning properties with the time, unlike most other cushioning materials. I don't expect that Lightstrike is like that, as it is EVA, and every EVA foam I have used loses its properties with the time, but as long as it remains relatively fresh throughout the life of the shoe, it will be fine.

I’m willing to love the zebra on the condition that the fit is wide in the forefoot like the Ubersonic 3. I’m assuming it’s not wide since the 4 is supposed to replace the 2 and 3, and apparently the market is bigger for narrow shoes.

Was the fit discussed in the video? I didn’t hear anything about it.

Yessssssss, my dreams of being a Zebra are still going ahead.

They said they will release more colorways by australian open time. Anyway,, what's such a huge deal with colors and patterns ?? this isn't my favorite pattern but i am going to get one anyway. it isn't the best but isn't the worst either.

Totally agree. And it might look better in person. Fit is the most important thing to me by far. If the shoe doesn’t fit it’s useless.

Yes i agree for sure. Heel slippage is the worst thing. Ubersonic 2 was great in this regard, your ankle and heel was locked in very secure. Cushioning was subpar awful but other than fit was great. Hopefully they improved the cushioning on the new model

Would you like a polo to go with your shoes?

Hmmm, I'd still rather go with my choice, the neon stripes of the Ubersonic 4 go well with the neon Hydrogen logo.

Also the straight lines of the shoe match the Hydrogen outfit as well, as opposed to the "swirliness" of Lacoste.

Although I'll put that Lacoste shirt on the backup list.

Can you give any info on the fit, specifically room in the forefoot compared with Ubersonic 3?

I am really wondering if this New lightStrike cushioning system will be softer than the Uber2 cushioning. Uber2 cushioning just felt little too hard for me, maybe cause i gotten used to that powercushion system by yonex.

Im very interested in getting these. I loved the Ubersonic 2s and have a pair of the US open colorway (green/black) for safe keeping. Will be interesting to find out what this lightstrike material will feel like. On the adidas website it shows that the plastic heel counter is black. Id rather have the black rather than that ugly poo poo color

be careful though . they said cushioning is more of firm cushion. it's not like pillow cushion like nike air max

new winner for ugliest shoe ever. adidas has 4 experts on that call and obviously none of them have a clue. no wonder they can’t make a decent tennis or basketball shoe.

Michael Jordan was an Adidas fanatic.

Sadly yes. The story of him signing with Nike was so interesting, Adidas had the sports fumble of the century when MJ said to Adidas he would sign for such a low contract over Nike, but they were dumb enough to not sign him. It even went to an Adidas exec who said Michael was too short I believe.

I have never been a big fan of nike's cushioning anyways. It also looks like they maintained the low to the ground feel for the U4 which I prefer as opposed to the Zoom Zeroes or the GP Turbos with their stacked zoom unit
GP turbo cushioning is insane comfortable though. its so good that i don't want to take off that shoes
