The AG100 is pretty similar to this racquet, no? (16x18)

Actually, in many respects, it's very similar. The sticks are weighted and balanced similarly. And despite the significant difference in head sizes, they both supply ample power and spin.

DAD is correct that the 100 is, and feels, a touch heavier than the 16x18. The most notable difference that I've experience is the 100's control. It's measurably more easier for me to hit my targets with the 100.

But the two frames do have their similarities.

Dang, I've mixed up things. thought the AG100 was at least 15g heavier, but it's just 6g difference.

You'll definetly get more control with the AG100.

Are you leaving the club DC?;)

Oh heck no! I'm not leaving the club. I love my 4D 300s.

I am just testing the Kobra Tour and I'm not sold on it just yet. If I pick one up it may be a racquet I go to if I get tired and need a bit more pop than the 300 offers. The 4D 300 is so solid. I may just get one restrung at a lower tension to see if that helps when I get a bit tired on court and need more power/depth.

We have a few members moving on from the Mfil 300. Check out the Redflea comments listed in the index on the first page for the comparisons between the two. Not hugh radical changes, but just moving on from one version to the next, and now to the 4D. Lots of folks here have tried them all.

Pretty much a 300 love fest going on here! :) And a great place to give and get info. on all of them.

But is your 4D 300 leaded? I find this to be a very forgiving racquet, easy to play with. Maybe lower tensions are the way to go;)

Had a few grams at 10 & 2 but even liked it standard, the balance of it was better for me than the 16x18. I like racquets closer to even balance. I don't feel it was outstanding at anything but a good solid all round package.

Found poly polar about 57lbs the best string set up and I tried a lot of different string.

Hey Racer41c
Thanks for the input, I think i'll give SS a shot.

I have an even better one for you! Black code 17 in the mains and Gosen Proform Tuff 15L. I strung it at 54m/56c. From the 1st hit this setup is crazy good in the 4d 16x19. Compared to the other setups I've tried, my slice backhand is un-believable and control is un-precedented in such a light frame (although I've added about .5 oz at 3/9).

The Black Coders say "you get out of it what you put into it" which I have to agree with. I hope this setup lasts a while because I can't imagine a better setup.

Hi,
Count me in the Club! I'm 48 and hopefully not too late to learn tennis. Using Prince O3 Speedport Black last year, but switching to lighter sticks for tennis elbow problem. 0.5oz lighter and I am much relieved. See my sig for my setup right now. I am still fine tuning them. Don't know which sticks I will be end up using but AG300 rank very high on my list.

OK, go back to lurking. :)

Guys I have 2 of my AG300 16x19 up for sale on the big auction site - see 130312277340. Posting to UK only.

Nothing to be alarmed about, the 2 still in my bag (the ones at 340g 8pts HL) are still my main sticks. But now I have a stringer and my son has gone to the dark side (Wilson) there isn't any need for 4 in my bag which is why I'm having a clearout.

I've been trying different string set-ups but after all this fancy pentagonal and triangular shaped string I'm erring toward a good quality syn gut strung 1-piece nice and tight, around 62 upwards. Anyone else find the same?

Actually everyone in his tennis academy (including the head coach) plays with a Wilson so he got seduced. He tried to love the AG300 bless him, but it just wasn't happening for him. He also tried an AG500 Tour (too stiff), my 200G Muscle Weaves (I took them from him as I felt they were too heavy) and then settled on my nBlade MPs which were just gathering dust. Unfortunately his coach seemed to think they were too heavy for him and although I didn't think I decided not to go to war on this issue.

My son borrowed a K Six-One Lite and wanted that so that's what he got. However, he was horrified at the slightly HH strung balance so I had to put a bit more weight at the bottom with a leather grip and a trick or two which wouldn't alert his coach so it's playing at about 280g and about 2pts HL.

Needless to say I'm a bit pissed off because I felt I was doing a fine job on showing him the wonders of HL balance and getting him to hit with slightly heavier sticks than his peer group!

CJ, your set up sounds pretty arm friendly to me. The only thing better would be gut (my preference), but you may or may not like that, or want to put out the money for it.

Thanks for coming out of lurker status - even if just for a little while :)

I need advise my 300s friends.

I prefer playing my 300 16x18 L4s than my L3. The L3 + overgrip does not feel right and the L4 + overgrip feels a bit too big.

I like playing L4 with ONLY replacement grip and not overgrip on it.

My problem is that the replacement grip, I mean the Dunlop grip which comes with the racket, gets too wet and the grip slips on my hands.

Because I do not want to put an overgrip on it, as it will make it a bit big, which replacement grip would you guys recommend for very sweaty hands?

The solution my friend is: an L4 with 3 overgrips and no replacement grip!

Thanks Eikel.

I tried 2 OG and that totally changed the balance of the racket to make it less head light.

The replacement grip weighs around 20grs.

Could I put 3 OG and then some lead?

It's been a while since I posted here, but I'm still going strong with my 4D300. The only thing I wish for was for it to be extended :[. Btu no biggie.

I tried all sorts of lead customization, but nothing works. IMO this frame feels perfect w/o any lead on the Head. Now, I put like 20g of lead in the handle and a leather grip and 2 Yonex Supergrap OGs and it feels perfect. I must admit it doesn't create the 'heavy' ball I want, but it gets the job done :]. I ordered a reel of Signum Pro Blackline Tornado to put in it and also some Signum Pro Multi. Gonna do Multi mains and Tornado crosses and see how it feels (as I prefer a gut/poly or multi/poly hybrid now).

But overall, I still enjoy the frame. Hope it gets better with the strings coming in.

Hmmm, nowdays the youth can be seduced easily, given the variety of racquets on the market. Back in my time, there were only PS 6.1, 6.0, 7.5 for girls, RQ-190, RQ-380, Dunlop revelations, and not much else. Sorry for your kid, hope he can be back on track soon;)

4D 300 vs 4D 300T

Hey guys,
In my search for a racquet, the Dunlop AG 300 caught my eye, and after reading the reviews here, I believe the 4D is an improvement. However, one question remains for the experts of the 300 world, which 4D do I get? The tour or the regular? What are the main differences? Are there cons to either?

Thanks!

DaDozen, how did I miss this new promotion?! Congratulations on your new position - make us proud :)

To catch everyone up, and from my several days of flipping through the TW posts:

Rabbit is enjoying his time more and more with the AG 4D 300 Tour, and is considering purchasing a few more. I don't think he has given up on his 100s yet, but we will see.

Damp is too busy winning USTA matches to post much, we will forgive him. After all, we should probably all be playing more and posting less.

PMG has a busy stringing business, and has made his first mistake on a customers racquet. If he doesn't post for a while, we will have to worry that his customer lost a match with the misweaved racquet and has taken revenge. He is also dealing with a wayward son who has moved to Wilson, we should all have patience with the boy and see if he finds his way again.

Staiger has been an international jet setting stud on holiday, but has finally returned to the dreary and mundane life of work and TW posting. Welcome back Staiger - back to reality.

Eikel has flown the coup of the safety and challenges of school and has been thrust out into the cold, hard reality of the job search. He has always been a bit Radical, but we should have patience with him as he makes his transition - we wish you the best of luck Eikel! Who knows, now that he has left the lofty ideology of university, maybe he will settle down with a Dunlop again. Trusty, solid and predictable. We shall see where our Eikel ends up after his temper has calmed (meaning after he demolished two of his Radicals in a fit over missing some random shot - did we ever get the full story?)

Redflea...is just missing. I assume he is busy adjusting to his new found love, the AG 4D 300, and has not had time for those of us who have always been here. New love....ughhhh.

Some have come and some have left us, but the story continues to unfold each and every day. You gotta love TW, Dunlop 300s and life in general.

Now, let's go win some matches and hit the fur off the little yellow ball :) Or in my case, maybe just try to make some solid contact

Optimist, let's go: the main differences between the two racquets are

weight: the tour is heavier, being 320g strung. The regular 300 is 310g strung. More mass results in more stability and solidness, but hey, you can add lead anywhere you want, and one of the things people like the most about the AG 4D 300 16x19 is that it's very customizable.

stirng pattern: 16x19 for the regular 300, 18x20 for the Tour. With the denser string pattern you get more control and string durability, but less spin potential and feel.

balance: the Tour has a more HL balance, translating into more control. But the Tour is known for having a heavier SW, which means more effort when hitting the ball. It's said that the AG 4D 300 16x19 is a very easy racquet, ideal for who plays lots of doubles.

read some of the reviews made here and you can have a very precise idea of how these racquets perform. But, you'll be well served with any of them;)

I've only time to play one day a week these days, which is unfortunate...but I do get in about 3-4 hours of friendly doubles on that day, so at least it's a decent chunk of hitting.

Hoping to play some father-son with my son this summer, so that should be fun...hopefully he'll forgive me my UEs. "Daaaad!!" ;)

As an update, I am pulling the trigger. I've decided to switch from the 100 to the 300T. I've still got some issues with the serve, but I think they will work themselves out. FYI, it is more my perception of my serving than the receiver it would appear.

In any event, I've heard too much from the other guys on court about how much better I hit with the 300T to ignore it. So, I've ordered a couple of more and will begin fooling around with string/tension. Right now, I'm going to start with a hybrid of Pacific Classic 16 and Volkl Powerfibre 17 at 58 to 60 pounds.

I'm here...been quietly reading and not posting much or doing anything but working lately. :( But you guys are keeping me well entertained, which I really appreciate. :D

I also think that this thread is one of the best in TW. Well, I do know I have the reasons to think this way.

My tennis practice is also on only one day of the week, sometimes two. I try to hit the court as many times as I can during this short time, but I always find myself wanting to play more at the end of the day.

Good luck playing the tournament with your son, and I hope you´ve shown him the path of light, differently from PMG:twisted:

Great news Rabbit! It's always nice to know that people play better with our beloved racquet:) I hope you can fix your serve asap, but I'm guessing it's just a matter of getting used to the racquet. As I said sometime before, this is not an effortless racquet, but you're rewarded for all the effort you put into it.

Are you going to sell your AG100s?

Rabbit, it's hard to argue with your opponents. Ironically, that's a big reason why I started favoring the 100 to my beloved 16x18.

If you don't mind my asking, what improvements were most noticeable once you began using the 300T?

Do yourself a favor, though. Keep one of those 100s. Just for old time's sake. And if you happen to be a 1/4 grip, send the rest to me.

Shell, nice summary.

I'd post more often here, but with the arrival of the 4D, I sometimes feel the conversation has passed me by.

Also, with Eikel AWOL, I no longer have a proper target for my blistering, backhanded posts.

Alas, I shall always remember Eikel as my shiny orange cone.

:)

A single thread for all 4D users would be nice rather than only pertaining to a specific model. It's also easier to locate :)

Wait, you're a 3.5, and you use an AG100? Gives me hope!!!!

It'd be nice indeed, but here we can discuss particular aspects of this great racquet:)

Also, we can chat with our non 4D models owners, who also have the 300s and love them so much;)
