Alcaraz New Custom Shoes

Kudos to Nike though..eh?
Instead of spending R/D money on making shoes we want, they spend it on making custom player-only shoes look more like the Garbage they're selling.

Bravo, they really do look alot like the Vapor 11. Obviously the outsole and medial side "prongs" are a giveaway but at a quick glance they're spot on.
For a fan who does not really pay attention, they have done a perfect job.

I cant defend nike anymore, this is an utter disgrace

so you let you top pros (CA, rune, fritz, etc) wear the vapor pro 1 in a stock white colorway for an entire year, then you let CA have a player edition for the USO that consumers cant buy, now were making a hybrid vapor pro 1 / vapor 11 so that you can market the v11 as something he uses? LOL to put it bluntly, nike can **** off

I'll have to brace myself for a transition away from Nike shoes (been wearing them my entire tennis career of 20+ years) in the next few years. At least Asics and Adidas pros wear the shoes that consumers can buy................................
I'm with you on this 100%. I have a history with Lotto shoes from having grown up playing soccer, so it was natural to give them (and Diadora) a chance when I started playing tennis. Both are great, and particularly Lotto feel perfect in terms of performance, comfort and durability. Quality is absolute on par with top brands, if not better. That their retail shoes can be seen on so many top players (not TOP, top, like Alcaraz) but highly ranked pros that can play and move way better than I can ever dream of, is just the icing on the cake. I see MY shoes out there doing amazing things, and so at least I know that they aren't the problem. (Yes, I already knew that, but you get the idea).

Joma is another brand that has their pros wearing the retail shoes. I've tried their stuff because the prices tend to be very good, and while the quality is perhaps a half notch below the top brands, it's good enough for some pros and good enough for me.

Getting back to Alcaraz, the guy seems like the perfect marketing machine. He's not my favorite player, but the way he hits and moves is just perfect for selling racquets and shoes. And while even clueless people probably realize that buying his racquet will not buy the shots he can make with it, I do think plenty of people want to wear the actual shoes that allow for such amazing "gets" on a consistent basis. That Nike can't give them to people is really disappointing, and it's downright ridiculous to charge as much as they do for imitations.

Kinda wild man - feels like socks have got worse and worse over the years. My Nike multipliers shrink like crazy and don’t hold up at all. Total shame. Are you using an cotton poly blends or just cotton?
While far from perfect, I find Nike socks to be superior to Adidas is just about every way (and those seem to be the only two brands reliably available in the US). The Adidas stuff starts to wear thing almost immediately, and only really fits well on the very first wearing

Guys honestly maybe this nike thing isnt as bad, Tiafoe wore the gp challenge 1 shoes like a year before release, this is about a year before the vapor pro 3 is due for update. Maybe this is a prototype with the vapor 11 look. or this is possibly a separate new line of shoes being in prototype faze just like gp challenge 1 was a completly new shoe.

This is clearly a pj. The gp challenge was also a predeccesor of the zoom nxt, there are currently no pics of the vp3 and one pic of the vp12

Somehow Nike has made it so none of their pro's wear current versions. Why don't they get their pro's to test shoes instead of giving us untested garbage like the Vapor NXT or Zoom NXT
Zoom NXT was so awful. Actually hurt my feet on the outside toe pad side. Maybe it was just me but it caused actual pain after just 20 minutes on court. Went back to Gel Resolutions and never looked back.

I hope that's a new Vapor Pro but definitely not getting my hopes up. I'm out here still scrambling and trying to scoop up any pair of Vapor Pros I can find.

No shot, it’s upper is retooled to trick consumers into thinking it’s the v11

I know. Just wishful thinking. I haven't actually tried the Vapor 11 outside of just a quick in store tryout but I immediately don't love it like the Vapor Pro. Tennis Warehouse is local to me and I have access to almost everything out there to try on between them or the local tennis chain but nothing at all has felt like a glove for my foot the way the Vapor Pro does. The VP2 sucks in comparison. I actually bought some and tried them out and either break-in period is way too long or it just doesn't work for my foot. I got lucky and the local store took them back and at the time had old stock VP1. I kick myself now because they had a lot of them in my size and I should have stocked up. I didn't and now I'm paying for it searching all over for any I can find.

I have 3 pair of VP1's that I am holding on for dear life. I love that shoe and anytime I can find it at the Nike Outlet or Nordstrom rack I grab them. Given Nike's history on letting their players wear older models and not allowing the rest of us to have them is par for the course for them. They have 2 of the top 3 players in the world wearing shoes we cannot get.

Have you been able to find pairs recently at outlets or warehouse stores? I'd love to get my hands on some pairs for matchdays, honestly feels better than the Nike lineup right now.

Yes my local Nike Store here in Orlando had some in the clearance rack. That was about a month ago. I looked the other day and there were no more left. They were women's size 11 btw but they fit perfectly

Nike is really doing it well, their top pros:
Sinner - can’t buy Zoom Zero
Alcaraz - can’t buy VP1
Nadal - cant buy Cages
Sabalenka - almost can’t buy Zoom Court NXT
Halep/Keys - Vapor 9.5
:D

a case study in not satisfying consumers with & not being able to read your target market

hey, maybe they dgaf and just want to push VP2/V11/GP challenge trash to pickleballers

The unfortunate reality is that 60% of Nike sales are to people who don’t care and see check and buy check

Just looking at the guys I play singles with chatting up and my neighborhood doubles team almost no one is anywhere remotely close to a gear nerd like me. None of them seem overly discerning with equipment. Even when I talk strings, racket differences, etc I might as well be speaking a foreign language. And that's the unfortunate truth I think with the shoes too. There are far more people playing tennis at a low level than high level and they just aren't as likely to be super picky and more likely to be attracted to the latest and greatest. It's those of us in the 10% or less that really do care or notice the subtle differences.

I know it's a useless hope but I'd be ecstatic if whenever the VP3 comes out that it's closer to the 1 than 2. I'm in the same boat of trying to find every and any pair of VP1 shoes I can get my hands on. I've got a half worn out pair now, and one that's basically brand new. I try to save my good ones for match play and use the more worn out for practice or doubles when I won't be moving quite as much. I'd really love to find just one more pair and I think that would get me through the next year and hopefully through until Nike has something new.
