Amélie Mauresmo has withdrawn from planning to succeed Yannick Noah as French Davis Cup captain next year and will instead coach countryman Lucas Pouille. Pouille will become the second male player to be coached by her after Andy Murray whom she coached for two years from 2014-16.4

:eek::cool:

Been on the cards for the best part of three years I reckon, just needed the right time/circumstances to make it happen.

Having to quit the Pique Cup captaincy is ridiculous though. What a bunch of divas not being able to handle the captain coaching one of their own. I see Tsonga had no such qualms about employing the Spanish captain...

Actually it makes perfect sense.

Momo avoids a conflict of interest that would otherwise exist in her job as DC captain if she'd been French captain AND a coach of one of the players she'd potentially select.

I get that, but Pouille has repeatedly - and categorically - said he won’t play in the new format.

No need to be misogynist and answer such questions, especially when the answer was already given before you've asked.

¿Misogynist? It was an honest question that I just posted without reading the whole thread.Spare my life p.c. activist.

Nice, thanks.As Pouille is one of my favorite players I hope she can help him as much if not more.
It seems it’s over for Lucas at least when it comes to returning to decent level of play I’ve read today he retired in Rennes CH looking truly awful,dismayed .Quite sad,I also liked his game.One of rare players who could play well on all surfaces

I would imagine people choose coaches for a variety of reasons. Sometimes for cultural and geographical reasons they will choose someone from their own country or region so it could logistical or pragmatic decision. Other times it ls an availability issue, cost, personality and coaching style.
I have never seen much of Amelie Mauresmo coach but may do some research to find out a bit more about her approach. She’s obviously right into coaching, not all players go for that post tennis career.

Sad! I loved his game and he seemed like a nice guy too.
