Anybody enjoying listening to Agassi?

It is amazing to listen to him commentate. He is highly intelligent, knows when to speak and when to be quiet and just watch the tennis. I would thoroughly enjoy listening to him some more the rest of the tournament.

good call. very much so. So detailed and informative. I wish he would come out and do more. I love the technical analysis. and Jimmy's tie, by the way. A great purple tie is a wonderful thing.

Agreed to both comments. He adds a detailed technical aspect that is super refreshing to hear.

I like how he broke down Roddick's backhand and why it isn't effective. He didn't pull any punches, and that's rare, it seems.

I'd like to hear more from Agassi as well.

Glad to hear you guys are enjoying it as well. It was amazing to listen to him talk about Roddick's backhand. Could you imagine having Agassi as your coach. Your game would be technically sound. :)

yeah agassi is a sharp and articulate guy. did he say that Roddick's biggest fault was playing tennis during the Federer era?

Agassi is awesome. He definitely brings out more relevant and interesting information. Being a champion and also having played Federer and roddick, the perspective he can offer is unseconded.

Good job TV USA.

*** It doesnt really matter what Agassi says. I am his fan and anything he says is super cool with me ****

And you notice what Andre said, in response to the query could Andy improve, "I'd have to see him try to hit the backhand more with his right hand" (paraphrase). That's a truly insightful, non-ego based, correct, and still appropriately reflective comment, especially given the questioning tone he used in the response.

And this is all coming naturally to him. Not forced. Kudos to the US Open for getting Andre up there to just be Andre.

If I catch him come to my town doing some sort of speech tour, like for his school, I'm going and donating money. Mad respect for the dude.

I cant imagine. Agassi would quit Tennis immediately after he sees my double hander backhand.

Oh man. This is what commentary should be like. Agassi knows exactly whats going on on the court. Look how he stated why Andy had to go DTL because he delayed his movement.

Lets have Andy call the match.

do you think you could tell me what things he is saying, somewhat specifically? im not there right now, and if you could tell me, that would be muchas awesome. i really want to hear what advice and tips he is giving, and since he is so mechanically sound, that makes it even better.

If I had Tivo I would definitely do that for you. Andre is saying so much, it's awesome. You could try channelsurfing.net. You can watch this match from there.

How can we let USO know that we want Agassi ?. This is what is missing in the commentary team. There are so many former players. why didnt they tell things like these?. Best of all, even my uncle (who isnt familar with nuances of tennis/sports) says he can understand what Agassi is saying.

Andre's commentary is so spot on and different, I can just feel my game getting better just listening to him. He brings up things no one has ever talked about before. Everyone else in the box, even Mac seem like novices. No wonder he was so good. I always took him for a "feel" player but the way he disects exactly whats going on is simply amazing.

I am so happy right now. Played about 3 hours of tennis, come home, take a shower, and now watching Fed versus Roddick in a night match in high definition with Mac and Agassi commentating. Now if only Jessica Alba was here walking around in running shorts, it'd be heaven.

Yes, Agassi is saying some really insightful stuff. Shows you how truly wack most commentators are. It's almost criminal that we have to listen to him knowing he won't commentate again until who knows.

I'd send her over but she really wants to stay here and watch it with me. I just sent her out to pick up a pizza for me.

I would love it if Andre could do the commentary more often, but I doubt if Stefi would have it.

But I'm loving his commentating.

His insights are super. I learned new things about both Roger's and Andy's games from Andre tonight.

Good stuff!

so nice to hear agassi mention that he watched a lot of his opponents matches to understand their strengths/weaknesses and how their games matched up with his. i'm so sick of all of these women's players (particularly williams sisters, sharapova, henin, etc) use the line "i'm only focused on my game and not really worried about my opponent".

honestly, I had no idea that was the fault with Roddicks backhand. And the analysis of the leading hand is new to me also. Guess I actually learn things when Agassi is commentating.

Yeah, man you guys have all brought up great points. It was truly a pleasure to listen to him. He is very introspective on life and tennis. I would love to listen to him some more. They invited him to come back for the women's semifinal. I hope he takes the offer. :)

With Andre demonstrating so much insight and expert analysis, does it add substance to his opinions about Federer i.e. no where to go? ;-)

That's it. I'm going to have to find this match recorded on DVD somewhere just for Agassi's commentary. I was only able to watch this match on Channelsurfing, and they are all Eurosport feeds in other languages (Spanish, Russian(?), French, German, and Chinese). Damn why don't I have cable!

Agassi was superb. His breakdown of Roddick's backhand.

His points about the right time to move and how Andy often moves to early, part of bad decision, but also out of need. If you don't guess on Fed's serve, you end up returning short and being dominated. If you move to early to avoid this, Fed can change the direction of his serve.

Well, well, to much talking during the points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What are you talking about? This was the best commentated match I have ever listened to. Everything Andre said had a point. He wasn't just talking to fill space. Why would you not want to hear what he thought in the first place? How he knew where Boris Becker would serve when he did the tongue thing. I thought that was pretty amazing.

Best commentator I've heard. I've never actually LEARNED things from a commentator. I should have been taking notes. I just took out my racquet and practiced a few backhand swings leading with my right arm, and the motion seems a lot smoother.

Both Andre and Courier are about a hundred times better than Mac or Carillo.

Mac is wrong so often it is funny to think how much money he must make off that event. His voice is terriible and his delivery is choppy. Not announcer material. And if I see that lame Amex commercial one more time, I'll throw up!

Andre's best bit was the part about how he could read Becker's serve by the way Boris stuck his tongue out after his toss.

Fed is an unstoppable monster!!!!!!!!!

Loved his little story about the Becker and how he tipped his away serve by the way his tongue hanged out of his mouth.

It must have been something that only agassi picked on or must have been quickly rectified by Becker. I would imagine something like that if not controlled could have ruined Beckers career.

Agassi said that it was during Oktoberfest in Germany that he told Becker about that. Must have been drunk out of his mind. Great stuff.

Becker mentioned the tongue comment in his book, which is very interesting btw.

AA is terrific in the box and it was nice to see the crowd give him some props during a changeover. Kudos to Roger for pointing him out too at the end of the match.

I thought AA's best bit of insight was how Fed takes control of the rallies (usually) after six shots b/c then he starts to find his range and dictate. Fascinating stuff.

Unfortunately a lot of former pros commentate for the cash. AA doesn't need it so don't know how much we'll see him.:(

Hell no. Andy's spasticity still comes out when he talks. He sounds like he's always in a hurry.

My statement quote from Andre in this match is when he said Roddick doesn't want to wake up the sleeping giant (something to that effect).

I have it on DVD.

Feel free to contact me at asyluke@yahoo.com and make sure you mention the dvd in the subject heading. Or else your email may end up in the spam folder.

Well I think it's clear that Andre has a place in the booth if he ever wants one. Huge kudos to USA for their coverage of this US Open. They have showed a ton of matches even if they didn't feature Americans and they never went over live coverage with tape delays (I hope the ESPN people were watching this coverage). AA made the night that much better. I really hope he can bring his personality and insight into the booth someday.

My thoughts exactly. He's extremely insightful, speaks from experience, and just really knows what he's talking about. And his voice is very mellow, which is also nice.

Wow is all I can say about having Agassi in the booth. Great job by the USA Network and the US Open for making it happen. It's not often we get to hear commentary from someone who actually knows Federer's game based upon on court experience.

As someone stated earlier, I never knew I could learn so much from commentary. I always thought Mac was excellent in his analysis; now I realize I never understood how insightful and detailed commentary could be. Amazing stuff, definitely have to download this one and mine for the nuggets of wisdom. I'll post a torrent link once it's up, if that's allowed here.

Loved the way how he quitely spoke with authority and intelligence. Unlike the rambling commentators, it was a refreshing change. I was at awe thinking how much tennis commentary could be better :(

AA is awesome !!

I liked Agassi's contributions last night. But just remember, it's easy when you're the 3rd person. Before we start anointing him the GOAT of tennis announcers, it would be a lot different if JMac were there and AA had to fill more time.

Forget emailing CBS - or anyone else. AA is busy with his foundation - he's not going to do commentary on a regular basis. At best I could see him agreeing to do a few days per year at the USO.

I couldn't hear Andre because I was watching it on a French channel, but he seems to be enjoying the good life..and looking a bit chubby.
