Anyone seen Donald Young play?

Fair enough.

Frankly, I don't think Donald Young needs to be dominating juniors - I wouldn't harp too much on a semifinal loss to a kid that is still a bit more than two years older than he is.

I think that the hype means nothing, at the moment - we'll see what Young is made of when he finally grows into an adult body and is able to compete at the ATP level a bit - by the time he's 18 or 19. At the moment, he's a promising junior - but no more than that, yet... junior success does not guarantee pro success.

Donald Young loses in the semis at Wimby. Unseeded, unknown Frenchman Jeremy Chardy upsets the American 6-4, 7-6. From what i hear, Young just needs to bulk up. He has amazing touch and finesse, but can't beat the power game of guys like Chardy. If/When Young gets stronger, watch out.

He is very talented but he is so overhyped, and he overhypes himself I think. He tried to play the pro tour earlier this year, he cant play pro right now, he isnt even close to being able to compete with men. His mother said he had to go pro since there was no competition for him in juniors after he won the AO juniors, it is good to see that it is shown to him that is not the case.

I talked to Donald after his semifinal match and from what he said he played good. He said the guy has been playing alot of pro tournaments and thats why he wasnt seeded because there werent any junior tournaments on his record for seeding. Overall I think Donald is where he needs to be right now. I feel he is getting better every tournament. And the pro tournaments he got were wildcards into tournaments. Wouldnt you take the wildcards if you were invited to play and not have toplay in the qualies???? I sure would. He is only getting better!

Why does it seem like his losing to juniors this year and last year he was ranked #1 and winning all these Grandslam events? Is his game not progressing and people have him figured out?

Sorry, but Chardy is far from unknown. The guy is a threat whenever he plays. Please, don't talk out of your ass...

Thanks for backing me up on saying that Chardy is far from unknown. Sometimes people need to get their info straight before saying what they think

Going pro at 15? I hope he doesn't burn out, that's awful early for someone to be getting into the BIG GAME. For his sake, I hope he is taking good care of his physical conditioning.

Yeah, I've seen him play and I have played with him alot. I am very good friends with him. I worked there at the tennis center that his parents bought in Atlanta as a teaching pro. After lessons and camps I would hit with him, hes a great guy.

FYI, his parents did not buy South Fulton Tennis Center because it is a public facility. When they came here a couple of years ago they tried to change the name of the center to Donald Young, Jr. Tennisplex, which pi$$ed off the Atlanta tennis community because, at the time, most of us taxpayers had no idea who Donald Young was. When we did find out it made his father appear to be aloof and as a result we avoided the center. We're just now coming to our senses and returning.

I was at S. Fulton a few weeks before Wimby playing a match and I got the chance to watch Donald workout. He's a speedy sucker, has excellent hands (unlike the average pro) and seems consistent with his groundstrokes. Nothing about him reminded me of Pistol Pete except his instincts at the net. My personal assessment is that he needs to get bigger and stronger and maybe then he'll live up to the hype.

No problem. The truth is, Chardy is a great player. I believe he beat Marin Cilic in the quarters. I know Marin personally and have practiced with him, and let me tell you, that is no easy feat...
