ATP comeback player farce

Murray's recovery comeback SHOULD be admired, the guy basically had a career ending operation on his hip and came back and nearly knocked Tsitsipas out of the US open this year. So his inclusion is somewhat understandable but the Nadal one is a joke. Overall tho these awards are a joke year in year out so it's not really surprising. I bet they had 15 meetings before someone was like "No guys, Seriously, we actually can't nominate Federer this year"

Wait -- Ruud and Tiafoe? Kokkinakis?

Anyways....Little Mac's performance in Washington was award-winning. Too bad most pros don't seem to actually watch tennis.

What about Sock, Kokkinakis and McDonald?
How did McDonald make a "comeback" this year? He has never been that great to begin with. And barring the final in Washington, what has he done this year?
Sock besides his 1st set against Zverev in USO, he hasn't won anything this year.
And Kokkinakis? I vaguely remember the 5 sets against Tsitsipas in Melbourne but that's about it.

I like Frances Tiafoe a lot but the sportmanship award? That's odd.
And what differentiates Ruud and Auger-Aliassime from the rest of the field, I have no idea either.

He wasn't ready for Cilic' quickest move between points ever... should have raised his racquet! Wait for me, no!?
That only works if your opponent has already struck their serve. Cilic preempted Fed's cheating by complaining to the ump before he himself was even ready to serve. Genius.

Actually, that's one of the strangest warnings I've ever seen. It was super quick, and Federer was just about to get ready at 12-13 seconds :)

Are you kidding? Mackie was ranked #194 at the beginning of the year and dropped as low as #272 in August last year. Even with the COVID rankings, he managed to get back to #55 in the world. And to push a player who is now a resident of the top 10, that's not a bad year at all.

Sock's comeback was also amazing, although I think he deserves it more for 2020 than 2021. I'll be happy if he wins it. (Just for comparison he started 2020 ranked #767 and ended it at #253, while this year he went from #255 to #146).

And I can at least think of a sportsmanship moment for FAA, but honestly Dimitrov should be in that list.

The real farce is Rafa Nadal being nominated for Sportsmanship award despite playing like 5 tournaments and getting time violations in nearly every single one, LOL
Yeah, this is ridiculous. These guys are great sportsmen but the methodology here is "who's the first player that you can think of who doesn't break racquets?"

Murray had surgery in 2019 and still not top 100 but he's nominates for comeback player somehow...

No offence, but did you actually look at the names of the other guys in the category?!

We're talking about a bloke who was practically retired in January 2019, reeling off wins against the likes of Sinner, Tiafoe, Alacaraz, Tsitsipas (morally), and Hurkacz, just over two years later.

It would be helpful if you list every time violation Rafa has had this year in every match otherwise you cannot be taken seriously.

Murray has played 15 tournaments, reached the 3rd Round of a Slam and R16 of a Masters after largely career ending surgery. He had setbacks from 2019.

But pickings are slim, can't give it to Sock.

I am surprised Fed didn't get a nomination considering 3 knee surgeries since 2020 AO & he makes R16 & Quarter of the two Slams he played.

I have the receipts, queen.

I guarantee he got one in the
-Tsitsipas AO match
- Sinner match @ Rome
- Schwartzman match @ Roland Garros (literally before the first point, I'm not even making that up, lol)

and tons of complaints of holding opposing servers up on return - see the quote from Opelka...

It's great you mentioned that Opelka received a time violation warning! :D Besides, Opelka was cheating those who don't know that the tournaments use the shot clock and a player can't take more time between points than the shot clock allows.

If referees warned him every single time he commits a time violation we could have a highlights reel of time violations for every tournament he participates.
What amazes me is that Rafa bashers haven't noticed that tournaments started to use the shot clock already in 2018!

ATP wouldn't even nominate Djokovic because they hate him since he came from nowhere and ruined the Rafa & Roger friendship and happines.

And because they know if they nominate him, players will pick him for Sportsman of the year as he always has nice words for his opponents no matter if he won or lost the match, with even going to their lockers and giving the encouraging words after the match (vs Shapo at Wimbledon SF, or to Matteo Berrettini at the finals of European Championship).

Sportsmanship is not only about breaking the racquets, it's much more.

Djokovic doesn’t deserve it either at all, lol.

but given that the only winners of this farcical award in the last 15 years are Fedal, there is no longer any pretense of objectivity or reason. What does it matter anyways? May as well just call it ‘most profitable tennis spokesperson, sponsored by Nike’, no?

Also Edberg may have been a gentleman but he also literally killed a line judge and made a bunch of extremely sexist comments about WTA players that would not go over well today.

Point is none of our heroes are even close to worth the idolatry :confused::confused:
