Ball bounce height 2014

Just wondering if I am correct in thinking the height has been lower through the clay than what I remember. Any knowledge of intent to reduce bounce or is this strictly weather related?

hard to say, we'd need data to say anything for sure… I personally think that it's the weather if at all though.

I feel that way too. then again madrid is always very diffrent from roland garros or rome....

Yes, I was noticing that when Almagro beat Nadal in Barcelona, the ball was only bouncing up to slightly above Almagro's shoulder - around his neck or head height.

On a normal clay surface, those forehands would be leaping 4-5ft above Almagro's head and forcing him to play backhand serves instead of normal backhands. That is what makes Nadal so hard to play on clay.

So yes, I am sure the clay is bouncing 5-6ft lower this year than in previous years. Maybe the tournament organizers had enough of Nadal winning?

So basically the ball would be bouncing the height of a tall grown man higher (than now) in other years?

I wasnt too sure of the Euro Clay weather but remember some having jackets at MC... also noticed the kick serves were only at times above the head/neck area when they would be consistently above by a few inches. Madrid has seemed higher on avg but the altitude has to be a factor.

I'm guessing it is the ball. Could be the surface. Yeah both Monte-Carlo and Barcelona seemed to bounce low. But Madrid seems much different.

Hmm,...., maybe. Nadal won too many times.

But it's always Rome (and Monte Carlo) that has similar surface as Roland Garros.

Yes, but was MC climate very moderate? I remember seeing many with jackets, but at what time of day and your on the coast... Barcelona final, Nadal fh ball seemed to not be as damaging to Almagro concerning height.

He just crushed Monaco 6-1 6-0. You can't ask him to player than that. I'm sick of his fans keep saying that he's injured and is slow as an 80 years old man.

Madrid is at altitude like Hamburg was, so that's why it plays different from RG.

Monte Carlo plays closest to RG, while Rome plays slightly quicker because the clay appears to be more slick.
