Perhaps....
Arrived at San Pablo today to find Noah hitting the wall, bunch of 3.5's playing doubles.
Noah is USTA 5.0 last year, played one or two for his League 4.5 team.
I shyly as if he wants to hit. He accepts! Cool! He crushed me 3-3 a week before I played Volleynets.
We get into some really solid deep rallies, good for both of us. I remember to breathe, use long flattish strokes, and provide pace, depth and good placement for him to groove his game. He does the same for me.
Then, a hard hitting but super erratic 3.5 friend shows, and begs into the hitting. Kills the rythum totally, 3 ball rallies now.
Worse, a 4.0 league woman shows and wants to hit.
Ended up playing 3 bad sets of doubles, bad for me, bad for Noah, great for the 3.5 guy and the 4.0 woman.
Noah wins 90% of the points he hits to my partner.
I win 90% of the points I hit to the girl.
Noah vs me, pretty close. He can overpower me, but I can out trick him with angles and low slices. All sets went 5's.
Why bother hitting with 3-3.5's when I can find 4.5's to hit with?
As for 65's. One of the better 65's, a perenial finalist last and this year in 65's, is a peer of mine. We're about 50/50 in points won if we hit to each other. He picks on my weak partner, I don't pick on his partner, rather would beat HIM than his weaker partner. He always wants to hit with me when he shows up on court.
