Berdych sucks

A few fluke wins against Fed and some lucks this year and he's top ten. But this is just due to the rest of the field sucking so bad this year, hardly anyone got any points.

Roddick losing points, davydenko, delpotro, tsonga, verdasco, etc, left some holes in the top 10 spots for berdych to fill in; but this doesn't mean he's that good.

What's he won this year after wimby? A few matches?

Reaching a slam final, beating Fed and Djokovic, is not what I call a fluke. The guy is highly talented but is a headcase. He's less of a headcase today but he's still has to work on his status as a good match player.

Not really talent as much as physical ability. The guy is 6-4 220lbs.

Talent is what players like Dimitrov, Gulbis, Dolgopolov, etc. have.

IMO he´s just overrated..
I mean Wimbledon Final 2010 against Nadal.
OK same in-form Berdych at Wimby 2008-2009 I doubt he would reached the SF.
All other Top players except Nadal played like crap at SW19 this year (including Fed).
There are guys way more talented than him.
It´s also just sad that he played the WTF cause he´ll be a toast opponent for every player in his group.

If Gulbis is so talented, Berdych is the most talented player in the world.

The guy got everything down technically: great serve, great strokes, beautiful technique. He only lacks court coverage and mental skills.
I agree about Dolgopolov, because he is so solid, and about Dimitrov a bit, but not about Gulbis. All the guy has is a serve and a forehand which are shotmaking but also error making machines.

Does anyone know what his actual match record is post Wimbledon???? Probably something like 3-7 I think.
7-11 since Wimbo, but even worse is 3-9 since that crazy close loss to Federer in Toronto.

I do think he'll do better after the season break.

He doesn't suck. Just very overrated (although there aren't too many people that would rate him very high anyway).

To be honest I think that he's just a huge ball basher and that is not talent in my book.

To be honest I am sick of hearing people use the term ''ball basher'' constantly and insinuate that it takes barely any skill/talent to crush the ball. I would like to see you go out and rip the ball like Berdych or Gulbis and keep it in. I'm sure you would be hitting into the fence or out into the parking lot.

BTW I'm not even a fan of Berdych.

Yeah mentally, he's in a very bad place right now. Seems like most of the top 10 except Djokovic and Nadal are shaken up mentally right now. Even players with fairly good results this year like Murray and Soderling are still having many strange losses to players they should easily be beating. Hopefully the top guys will pull it together for the WTF and next season.

berdych has been playing awful since that loss to fed.
verdasco has also been terrible since the USO

hope they both get it together

They are all 6'4"+ and they are UE machines too.

I’m a Berdych fan. He’s injured in his foot/ankle. He’s not a ballbasher. At his best, he plays with fluidity, grace, style and power. Against Kamke he came to the net several times, albeit on poor approach shots. I think his injury has affected his psyche. He makes the wrong decisions. His confidence is at a low. His serve is not as big as it was in the first half of the year.

When he gets back into full fitness and starts winning again, he will regain his power and status. I believe he will climb in the ranking before long. He should be able to overtake Soderling, Murray and Djokovic. But probably not the top two.

Berdych is NOT a ball basher. He has very good ground strokes and is proficient from all areas of the court. Unlike his other tall competitors he actually possesses a very good slice backhand and excellent touch at net.

No. He usually just hits the ball hard and stays back, as well as relying on this massive serve.

For what I saw in this year's RG and Wimbledon, he's not too good a volleyer. I'd even say he's average, for today's not-so-high standards.

he made some unreal volleys vs Federer at Wimbledon

Soderling cant really move, slice, or volley well. It was exposed in the RG final that he has no plan B

And missed many more! Maybe it's clearer if I say "easily passable" instead of "bad volleyer". Like Roddick.

I heard once that (beyond his own skill) Soderling's racquet specs are totally unsuited to volleying?

he won only 4 (!) points in the last set against davydenko ?
sounds as a great effort, knowing he was already qualified for the year-end masters...

what exactly happened in that last set? did anyone watch?

I just watched and I just do not have the answer to your question. It was very unusual 3rd set, borderline of weird. I did not see any kind of implosion on TB's side. Davydenko was just in the zone :)

Berdych froze up in the third set after losing the second-set tiebreaker. As the final set progressed it became painfully obvious that he was mentally spent. His serve deserted him. He no longer looked tall and proud. I think he gave up, actually. It was a sorry sight.

He had Davydenko in the bag towards the end of the second set. He was just not able to tie the final knot and the Russian sneaked out.

But I still believe in Berdych. If he can become mental tougher, he will be hard to beat. As it is now, he is his own worst enemy.

Indeed, and the fact that Davydenko suddenly got in the zone didn't help raising his confidence.

I have no hopes for him getting to the last rounds of the WTF. But, if he manages to win matches, I'll be happy.
