So, now that 2017 is coming to a close, what is the best current tweener in your opinion?

Let's hear it!

Even in tweener you can consider different types
Powerful and easy : PD or warrior
A bit less powerful : Volkl VS8 or extreme xt
Balance of power control but less manoeuvrable : DR 100 or APD

I played with that not too long ago. Most definitely an upgrade on the 2015 and 2012 versions. I feel it has gotten more nuanced in playing characteristics generally associated with a PD. More comfortable too.

If only this new ver. had the 2015 paint job :)

Absolutely! I did not like the '18 PJ much. Very loud and looks like a toy to me. Much prefer the 2015 pj :)

Yeah i've heard a lot of users say the same, although they are enjoying the way the new PD plays, I guess if you aren't too o.c.d like us tt posters then it don't matter ;-) I also think the powerstab is a great tweener!

I really want to try the new Technifibre line myself, have heard great things. Will be a while though unfortunately as I will be traveling a lot in the next few months :(

It's a great frame, just waiting for prices to drop, second hand e.t.c... maybe you will pick one up in your travels

Pure Aero still, can't find any thing to match the power and stability (weighted up). I bought a TF powerstab on impulse but it couldn't match the pure aero.

This week I decided to demo these from TW:

Pure Drive 2018
Pure Aero
Textreme Warrior 100

After one hour of hitting with the Babolats I developed a shoulder discomfort that devolved into some pain the next day. Deal-breaker for me. I loved the free power and they were so much fun to play with. The Pure Aero did look and feel like a Fisher Price plastic toy, but it is an amazing hitting racket.

The Warrior was the unexpected winner for me and I ordered one after demoing it. Everything about it was excellent. Spin just as good as Pure Aero, very powerful but not so stiff— this racket did it all. I am AMAZED the Warrior doesn't get more praise or attention. What an underrated stick!

The Warrior is a hipster favorite here.

Honestly though, I don't understand how you can develop shoulder pain from one hour of hitting with the PD/PA unless you are extremely weak, old, and/or have some terrible technique.

I agree! Very spinny, comfortable and tolerant. I hit wonderful serves with this frame!

I don't think that is why it plays as well as it does, tho. It doesn't have the thicker throat as the others so i don't understand why it plays like the others with thinner beams. But who knows?

I didn't mean that in a bad way though. I just meant that it's very popular here, but I don't think it had great sales.

A lot of people have been injured by very stiff rackets. Google "Pure drive arm/shoulder/wist pain".

In terms of consistency of performance across the usual parameters, coupled with stability: PD18 for me. But does not come without potential issues. Firstly it's very muted, which some will not like. Secondly, it is a stiff babolat and some arms will not like that. But i really can't argue with the response i get from it with RS Lyon 17. Seems to be a perfect combination for consistent and predicatable results.

That said, as ever it is each to their own.

I should add that Dr100 is more predictable than Warrior in groundstrokes, but PD and Warrior are great for serves.

I bought a cheap DR100. I'll see how that goes. I might end up moving to the PD 2017. I could use some more all around power.

Found a really cheap PD on sale too so I scooped it up! I'll resell what I don't end up liking.

Bingo. Stiff rackets will only effect your wrist and elbow. Shoulder pain comes from rackets that are too heavy and/or bad technique

That's a load of BS. Everyone's muscle kinetics and motor patterns are different and it is more than possible to injure a shoulder with a stiff racket. Everyone on this board has bad technique compared to the pros and even they get wrist, elbow and shoulder issues.

While it is generally true that lighter stiffer frames strain the wrist and elbow predominantly and heavier frames strain the shoulder, the uniqueness of every player means there are no absolute rules.

The big thing is, stiffer frames send more of the balls kinetic energy into the arm putting added strain on the joints and ligaments. Where that strain focuses can be highly individual. So if a guy says his shoulder hurt after hitting for an hour with a PD/PA, I don't see why you have to question his credibility.

Generally speaking you are correct. There are a TON of variable to people playing and how they feel. That being said there are janky strokes then there are SUPER janky strokes. Of course we are all far from pros.

But what you have to think about is the point of contact your body has to the racket. Its your hand and the handle. I have played stiff and soft frames and even had tennis elbow. But I have NEVER felt stress from shock/vibration past my elbow. That's A LOT of muscle, bone, and tendon for shock to pass through to hit you shoulder muscles and joints. 99.999999 percent of the time I'd bet cold hard cash that its technique and fitness and general repeated motion WAY BEFORE it is shock from a stiff racket. Sorry

To add to that people *adjust* their strokes when hitting hit elbow and wrist pain and THAT is what could cause shoulder pain... but again that is not the shock itself but a change in action because of the shock and vibration affecting other parts of your body

I have four Textreme Warrior 100 frames and have been using them.for nearly two years. Great frames.

Recently started using my Pure Aeros that bought in March, but couldn't adjust to them before the spring season so put then in the closet. Pulled them out last month.

Power/Stiffnes : PD>PA>Warrior 100
Spin: Warrior 100>PA>PD

The PA sits between the PD and Warrior 100. My serves and ground strokes have more pop with the PA, although I had to leave full poly something I have been using since 2013.

The PA with Isospeed Cream 1.28mm mains and TF HDX Tour 1.30mm crosses is buttery soft slightly less spin but more power than my Warrior with fully poly.
