That would make sense. Because he is not a good player, so he puts himself into this position more often, so he has more experience.

Like Fed having weak mental tougness, cuz he was so great that he rarely needed to fight.

Djokovic has had a few high profile ones so he would get my vote if his oppenent was serving for the match but if it was a MP on a players own serve, i would probably say Isner.

You are seriously thick enough to accuse the World No. 1 of not being a good player? Delusional...

yes djokovic is really bad player,he doesnt even deserve to be on top100,every match that he wins is because he is lucky and his oponent is having a bad day

Thomas Muster probably has the record of saving match points and then winning the match.

Also remember Norman saving a lot of MPs. Didn't he save like 13 MPs or so in the FO final against Kuerten?

This used to case in his prime not these days. Last season he came back saving multiple BPs three times.

A few examples don't make a rule.

In general Federer is losing in big matches vs top guys when the match gets tight.

Because Fed owned everyone easily. That is exactly why you would except him not having much practice in tight matches, because he was rarely in such position.

Wow, that is quite incredible. Also how close a player is between going out in the first round and winning the entire tournament.

That's why tennis is exciting.

Novak wins this hands down as it is one thing to do in R1 and R2 matches but completely different doing it in the final stages.

He has compensated for the 2013 FO choke.

That said his propensity to choke is also very high and he is able to get himself out of those tough situations

Kuerten never lost an FO final.

Djokovic - That is the name that comes to mind when you talk about someone saving Match Points. Some of the match points he has saved are iconic.

Novak went on to win 7 more majors after saving MP against Fed at USO 2010 SF

If he is so great, why can't he win before being match points down?

Why is struggling better than winning without being match points down?

That's a good question. Why don't you ask Djokovic? But to call the World No. 1, who has his point lead by a wide margin, not a good player, is absurd to the degree I would only expect of you. I severely hope you are not an accurate representation of the wider Federer fanbase.

Djokovic has probably saved the most match points in the really big matches ie. 2 each in the semi-finals of 2010 and 2011 USO plus 5 in the final of 2012 Shanghai!

I think an honourable mention must be made for Murray who saved a match point in the final of 2013 Miami and, towards the end of last year, saved a total of 10 match points ie. 5 each in the finals of Shenzhen and Valencia!

Not good compared to some greats who defend less match points, that's why they win faster.

I didn't mean not good in general. I thought you of all people would be smart enough to see my statements in context.

Why would I call 8 GS winner not good? Only a fool would see my words as calling a 8 GS winner not good.

That's what makes him better at match points, since he had more practice. Like other greats aren't that good either if we compare them on match points.

This is what usually happens if best MP saver and poorest MP converter play each other :).

Also, how do we know Djokovic is strong MP saver? What if he is just playing mentally weak players who are terrible at converting MPs?

That's foolish to believe Novak is only a good matchpoint-down player because he is so often matchpoint down. That's called self-justified reasoning.

I didn't say it was a fact, just throwing it out there as a possible explanation.

And please don't use your fancy book learnin' :). I know what it means, I'm a few levels above you, I just enjoy acting stupid to troll newbies like yourself, who think they are geniuses trying to put other people down.

He wasn't playing like his hip was busted...

Well, Federer doesn't have a chance when he's facing a top clay specialist at FO. Had Kuerten met a good clay player that day Kuerten would've been straighsetted.

I find far too often that people who accuse others of stupidity often lack intelligence to make an argument and they have to resort to personal attacks.

All-time record: Allison saved 18 match points

1930 Davis Cup: Allison def. Stefani 4-6 7-9 6-4 8-6 10-8

Allison saved two match points in the 4th (Allison trailed 2:5) and sixteen in the 5th set (was 1:5)

Panatta saved 11 matchpoints in 1976 Rome 1st round. He won against Warwick 3-6 6-4 7-6

Schuettler saved 10 match points (two MP's on return) to defeat Seppi in the 2nd round of 2004 Kitzbühel. Schuettler won 3-6 7-6(15-13) 6-0 withstanding match points at three different games:

4:5 (15/40), 5:6 (15/40) and in the tie-break at: 6:7, 8:9, 9:10*, 10:11, 11:12* and 12:13.

Chesnokov saved 9 match points in the 5th set of the 1995 Davis Cup SF Deciding Rubber against Stich. Chesnokov won 6-4 1-6 1-6 6-3 14-12

2004 Roland Garros 1st Round: Spadea def. Serra 7-5 1-6 4-6 7-6(9-7) 9-7

Spadea saved two match points in the tie-break and seven match points in the 5th trailing.

1960 Australian Open final, Laver trailed Fraser 5-7 3-6 6-3 4-5 and saved a match point, and yet still managed to win the match 5-7 3-6 6-3 8-6 8-6.

There are many more.

One player I saw who saved a heck of alot of matchpoints in matches,in particular in big tournaments was Lendl.

The most famous one IMO was the 1984 semi final against Pat Cash.He was practically one foot out of the door when Cash hit the ball down the line and advanced to the net and Lendl could only have won the point one way.. a well timed lob.He did just that and went on to beat Cash but lose the final to Mcenroe.

He also saved matchpoints in another slam semi final... this time against Edberg at the Australian Open.Once again his opponent had come to the net and Edberg fluffed a volley that would've given him the match.Edberg had multiple matchpoints in that match from memory.

Also against the Italian Paolo Cane at Wimbledon in 87........ and against Woodforde in the 4th Round at Wimbledon again

Once again in a slam this time in the first round against Richard Krajicek.. down 2 sets to love Lendl launches a comeback and saves 2 matchpoints in the 4th set to extend the match into the 5th where he bageled a cramping Krajicek.

In the "Big 4s" Careers so far...

Fed has saved 44 MPs from 15 tournaments
Nadal has saved 26 MPs from 10 tournaments
Djokovic has saved 30 MPs from 10 tournaments
Murray has saved 23 MPs from 8 tournaments

That's not an argument for him not having weak mental toughness, it's just an excuse for it.

Why is struggling better than winning without being match points down?

Federer struggles too. And when he does he's worse at overcoming it.
