I don't think she is hated by her fellow players at all. I see a ton of players congratulating her on her Instagram posts.
Even the one that hated was shut down in a few days after the second beat-down. Now everyone is congratulating.
This happens when you are really good at what you do, they will have to respect you in front of the public.
All said, there is nothing wrong with what Bianca does on the court. This stupid thing started by that fräulein should end here.

Lots of tactical MTO's. Acts like she's down and out and can't move and then suddenly runs around like she never had an injury concern. Did it against Wozniacki in Auckland (went on to win the match) did it against Kerber in the Indian Wells final (went on to win the match), did it again in Miami against Kerber after losing the 2nd set but went on to win the match hence the dramaqueen comments since it happened in back to back matches). Did it again against Pliskova this week (went on to win the match).

She's only 19 but she's already making her mark on the tour with all these BS MTO's. Four this year alone, every time going on to win the match (they're might be more I forgot about?).

By saying they are tactical MTO’s you are essentially indicating she is faking the injury. Yet after IW she couldn’t compete in Miami and had to withdraw and take 3 months off. So clearly there was a legit injury she was managing.
Again looking fatigued on court and playing through it was already mastered by Pete Sampras. No one ever called him a drama queen. It’s just how he portrayed himself on court. Bianca expresses herself similarly. It’s hardly drama.

And really, is winning a match after an MTO a sign of faking or a sign of toughness? This appears to be the issue some of you have. I’ve seen people play on broken legs with enough Adrenalin. Sometimes injury spurs you to higher levels if you can manage it.

Actually she did compete in Miami, made the 4R and then retired.

She had the MTO against Wozniacki in Auckland, won that 2R match, and the QF and SF match.
Had a MTO in the Auckland final against Goerges I just learned. Went on to lose the match, however, was fine when she played Aus Open qualifying 2 days later where she won 3 matches and then her 1R match before losing in the 2R.
Had the MTO against Kerber in Indian Wells final. Went on to win that match and then play Miami and win matches there.
Had the MTO again against Kerber, this time in Miami. Went on to win that match (breadstick in the 3rd set in fact), retired in her next match. (Probably should've retired in that match instead).

Sounds like Nadal's special appearances in his early years and he is within shooting distance of the slam record, so cry me a river.

Bianca is my favorite player to watch. She doesn't do anything illegal, but she definitely bends the rules in her favor.

She uses MTO's like timeouts in Basketball when a team gets hot and the coach is trying to stop the run.

It kills momentum for the other player.

Lots of players do it, Kenin did it right back to Bianca too.

No rules have been broken.

Juniors do it ALL the time.

Bianca IS A DRAMA QUEEN and there is nothing wrong with that in my book. Still love her effort, style and personality!

I love drama thats actually one of the reason why I am following WTA ;)

She is not the only one who does it with MTO's. Yastremska does it too and many others. I think with time she will find out its unnecessary and she can win without it. Nadal did it too in early stages, Djokovic as well.

ITF juniors do it when they go down 0-2 in the first set lol

Still trying to figure out the drama. Do we doubt these injuries are legit? I mean do players withdraw from the FO and Wimbledon to keep up a facade of being injured?

Does looking fatigued in a match qualify as drama? I mean Sampras had the Hang Dog look mastered and no one called him dramatic. Is it sexism that seeing open displays of pain and emotion in women are “drama”.

She’s a 19 year old competitive kid. She’s won two Premiere events this year despite taking 3 months off. She plays a varied all court game that’s far more entertaining than most women to watch. I just don’t know where the hate is coming from.

Relax Dart.

I'm a big fan of hers, but if she backed off from all of her open displays of drama I'd be an even bigger one.

She's 19. When did you want her to start, 14 like CoCo Gauff and probably grow up with a messed up brain like a child actor lol
Graf started at 13 and it didn’t do her any harm.

When you’re ready, you’re ready. Andreescu going 10-0 against top 10 competition indicates she was ready a long time ago.

So you think it’s crying wolf rather than managing an injury that eventually led to a 3 month break to heal the injury? Interesting take.

I get it if she always looked fine and never took time off, you’d get suspicious. But she’s had a significant history of having to deal with injuries and take time off. Pillorying her for trying to tough it out rather than being a baby and retiring seems a touch mad.

I guess I don’t see it because where I play people behave like that on the court all the time. I miss people showing their emotions on the tour. Everyone is a stoic robot.

Again, men behave that way it’s being a colourful character. Women do it and it’s a drama queen.

They sure are, but 5 in 8 months is a lot especially when she won 4 of the matches and in the one she lost she played a match 3 days later. Nothing wrong with a tactical MTO but then people can’t be upset when she’s called a drama Queen.

One or two or hell maybe three MTO’s in 8 months is maybe believable but 5? Nah, I’m not buying all of them. For a start, two of the 5 were in Auckland which was way before the big injury troubles for her (she played Aus Open qualifying three days after that Auckland final and won 4 matches there, funny that). In fact, she’s won 4 of the 5 matches she’s had a MTO and each time went on to play more matches afterwards. The one in the Indian Wells final against Kerber was interesting since she went on to win the match which is fair but then she went and played Miami the next week. Not only that but she then punished Kerber again in Miami this time by subjecting her to yet another lengthy MTO, this time off court in the 3rd set.

I mean, she’s not doing anything illegal. I’m just saying I can see why she was called a dramaqueen. Kerber had to play her twice in 4 days, both times in the 2nd or 3rd set Bianca pulls the oh I’m injured card and need to go off court and then goes on to win the match or in Indian Wells case, the title. I’m not saying she’s lying about all the injuries, but as I’ve said, if you cry wolf enough times...

So Oz Darcee can tolerate a drama queen just because she won many GS titles but can't tolerate a teenager who has had tough time fighting with injuries and still playing by the rules,

Yet you are so willing to buy her large number of MTOs, but not the injuries of another player. We see where this is coming from.

compared to the mom above who threaten umpire and line judges, interrupt matches and kill all the joy of a sport competition. Bravo.

Not a rare achievement in the sport's history, yet some are going on about this as if its the breakthrough of the ages.

Meanwhile, this is some of the same crowd who routinely attack Osaka--a player who did her job by winning back to back majors.

No surprises why that's happening..

Injuries are a concern with someone so young... and God help her if she wins the U.S. Open, she'll just follow the example of other women who have won recent grand slams and then suddenly become mediocre....Stephens, Osaka, Barty, Ostapenko, Kerber sort of.

Well if you say she's crying wolf, you are saying she's lying about injuries. At least that's what "crying wolf" means in my country. And yet there is the irrefutable fact of a 3 month lay off to heal her shoulder. I think the more likely scenario is she's been struggling with a bum shoulder for a couple years and has to manage it in matches.

I've played with various injuries and there have been matches I'd have wished for a PT to come massage out a tightened arm or leg or back mid match if it was available to me. Instead I played through at a lesser level and even sometimes still won. But if it was available you can bet your lunch money I'd have taken an MTO on those occasions.

Injuries and medical timeouts are part of the game and I don't expect any player to say, "Hey, i need this worked on right now, but I don't want to upset my opponents momentum so I'll try to tough it out as long as I can." That would be pretty ludicrous right?

I just think most of you claiming MTO's as tactics just haven't played enough sports injured before.

The hate only comes from those in this thread buying every MTO from Andreescu, and her drama, yet refer to another player in their typically negative manner. Not to mention trying to trash Kerber. Some have jumped on this bandwagon as if she's a guarantee for majors glory, yet this very board has some of the same members (they know who they are) attacking a bac-to-back majors winner. If you cannot accept the truth of what's going on, so be it.

If Serena was sport enough, she wouldn't ruin two young players' milestone achievements and take over the podium.
I don't doubt she had back spasms that affected her serve but she preferred not to complete a set and retire after that just because she figured she was about to be destroyed. That's OK too as that's within the rules but she is not anywhere in the territory of sportspersonship.

Dunno, I just know the OP is way overhyping her.

Probably overhyped like most next gen players. At various times this board has overhyped Cilic, Shapo, Thiem, Zverev, Tsitsipas, Stephens, Coco, Keys, Ostapenko, etc. Everyone is starved for the next great player.

That being said, she has won two Premier WTA events and gone 7-0 when facing top ten competition. So there's hope she could be the next one. But I suspect she will struggle with the injury bug. Having troubles with your shoulder at 19 is not a good sign.

Crying wolf:
call for help when it is not needed, with the effect that one is not believed when one really does need help.

I don’t believe all 5 of her MTO’s and the issue with that is, by the time it was real, nobody was buying it including Kerber. Pretty simple.

I’ve just found that she in fact took ANOTHER MTO in Auckland, this time against Babos in the 1R. And no it wasn’t for a shoulder injury. So that makes 6 MTO’s in 8 months. 5 times she went on to win the match, the other time playing matches days later and winning 4 of them.

In Auckland it was for a hip injury and then against Woz it was a back injury. She came good to win both matches and make the final and then qualify for the Australian open. Surely even you see how this is getting INCREDIBLY unbelievable? Surely.... 6 MTO’s in 8 months and winning 5 of those matches.

This is just incredible! Serena has two retirements this year, one coming in tears and you criticise her for ruining someone’s moment. Did Darcy say anything about this then?

Caroline Wozniacki:

(3) Indian Wells - 2 - Right Ankle vs Keys &

(5) Miami - 1 - Right Ankle vs Konta
