By saying they are tactical MTO’s you are essentially indicating she is faking the injury. Yet after IW she couldn’t compete in Miami and had to withdraw and take 3 months off. So clearly there was a legit injury she was managing.
Again looking fatigued on court and playing through it was already mastered by Pete Sampras. No one ever called him a drama queen. It’s just how he portrayed himself on court. Bianca expresses herself similarly. It’s hardly drama.
And really, is winning a match after an MTO a sign of faking or a sign of toughness? This appears to be the issue some of you have. I’ve seen people play on broken legs with enough Adrenalin. Sometimes injury spurs you to higher levels if you can manage it.
Actually she did compete in Miami, made the 4R and then retired.
She had the MTO against Wozniacki in Auckland, won that 2R match, and the QF and SF match.
Had a MTO in the Auckland final against Goerges I just learned. Went on to lose the match, however, was fine when she played Aus Open qualifying 2 days later where she won 3 matches and then her 1R match before losing in the 2R.
Had the MTO against Kerber in Indian Wells final. Went on to win that match and then play Miami and win matches there.
Had the MTO again against Kerber, this time in Miami. Went on to win that match (breadstick in the 3rd set in fact), retired in her next match. (Probably should've retired in that match instead).
Had the MTO against Pliskova this week. Went on to win that match, and the next and the next.
I'm just saying, if you cry wolf enough times, nobody is going to believe you. She's only 19 but as mentioned, she's developing a reputation.
