Bianca Andreescu!

Was Mardy Fish in her box? He was sitting in front of an older man with grey hair who was next to some middle aged woman with long curly red hair. Not orange, but dyed red.

The championship nerve certainly helps though o_O playing this player on this court? About as hard a test as you'll get. To bounce back in those last 2 games after the way things turned was incredible. I'd say the only concern is how healthy she stays. Already had her issues this year.

I honestly thought she was going to choke the big one, lol. Would've been really bad for a player that young to experience that too, but she did win in the end. We'll have to see if she goes the Stephens, Muguruza etc... route or if she can actually be consistent unlike so many.

I think this is the first of many. Players like Osaka and Barty need to match her movement to stay with her. Shes like the first of a womens big 3!
Who are the other two?

WTA is extremely far from a Big 3. About a million light-years away.

But that's not a bad thing.

I only counted one Andreescu drop shot the whole match. She won by matching William's power. That was surprising to me and not the way she usually plays
but it shows how versatile she is. Spike Lee can take his little lavender glasses and outfit and stuff 'em.
That little pompous twerp was there?

I think a lot of players can match and outstrip her movement, but the power from a standstill position is very similar to Serena, and that'll make her very hard to beat.

I think its the combination of both, most people with that power arent as agile. (Theyre normally taller than 5 foot whatsver she is) I think Barty has a fair chance of finding some answers to her game, taking those moonballs out of the air etc.

Serena now 0 for four in the last four finals. When does that alone become an almost insurmountable mental hurdle for someone who just showed up and won
almost every time out? I'm hoping it is.

All the celebs were there for Queen Serena. The crowd was definitely on her side, I thought. I'm sure there is much cheering north of the border.
Whenever those Hollywood knuckleheads root for someone as a large voting block, I love it when they get disappointed.

May Serena lose another 15 slam finales. A lot of fun, witnessing her hopeless pursuit of a ridiculous record.

Threads about Bianca guys, don't hijack it.

You are right....Mississauga is near here where I am typing.
If you live long enough you see many things. I never thought of Canada as a tennis powerhouse but darned if they haven't hit a bumper crop.
This isn't Daniel Nestor and Glenn Michibata's Canadian tennis anymore. (don't want to leave out Hurricane Helen Kelisi)

As a Canadian fan, this was amazing. Biggest tennis match in Canadian history. Watched it from our tennis club in the pub and it was rocking. Local news cameras were there to get the local vibe. My buddy got interviewed. This is a big thing here.

Hopefully she can maintain this level. She's a real smart player. She knew Serena was hugging the baseline so she took the drop shot out of the game and hit the ball deep at her feet and lots of serves into the corners. Take advantage of Serena's big caboose.

Yet another East European triumph, albeit one from an emigrant family this time.

They seem to have a thing for tennis over there.

Myself I started playing tennis after the first modern #1 rose: Ilie Nastase, a true tennis genius!

Mentioning, yes. Denigrating, no.
What is this? I thought the old Soviet Union went out of business. Apparently contrary opinions to yours are not to be allowed.
I said the crowd was on Serena's side (clearly a self evident claim if you watched the match) and after going O for four in her last four finals
getting another slam title now amounts to a growing mental hurdle.
This is not "denigrating" Serena. There are called common sense observations. Sorry your knickers got twisted up. You also could relax and breathe some more.
