Caroline Wozniacki to Retire after AO 2020

She’s only 29 which is still a pretty young age in tennis today. It is worth noting that she “bloomed” VERY early on in her career though

I honestly thought she was around Nadal/Djokovic/Murray’s age given how long she’s been around for. Nonetheless, she had a wonderful career and I wish her all the best moving forward!

Caroline Wozniacki has had, by any measure, an excellent career and deserves her place in the Hall of Fame. Always one of my favorite players growing up, playing a very solid, defensive game and beating greats like Maria Sharapova at their own game. Wish her the best after tennis!

Sad to hear but not too surprising. She had been hinting at wanting to do other things like starting a family for some time now and the recent diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis probably helped her make up her mind.

At 29 she seems too young for retirement but, on the other hand, she's accomplished pretty much everything she set out to do. Finally got that Slam title under her belt at 2018 AO, won the WTA Finals in 2017, spent 71 weeks ranked #1 (putting her in the top 10) including 2 Y/E #1s (2010-11) and won a nice round total of 30 WTA titles to conclude her career with.

She was a big presence on the tour for many years (like her or not) and she will be missed!

Given her diagnosis I'm not surprised. Her last year was a real struggle for her and it was clear her body was not cooperating with what she wanted. I haven't always liked her personality, but I am glad she got her major and had the career she did.

Fedace is more HOF worthy.

Pete Sampras retired like right after he won the ‘02 US open

Incorrect. He only decided to retire the following summer after not having the motivation to play Wimbledon - and officially announced his retirement at the 2003 US Open.

She has a lot to look forward to being in a happy marriage and planning a family. She had a nice career and set herself up for years of happy and comfortable living. I hope she does well in all of her efforts.

True. Wasn’t the finals vs Agassi his last official match though? I honestly don’t remember that was quite a while ago

I don’t know why anyone would be surprised. She got her major and she has a serious ailment. She’s newly married and obviously wants children. It’s an obvious thing. I wish her the very best in her next chapter.

Ah this is sad but not surprising after the unfortunate arthritis diagnosis.

She’s an incredible player who accomplished so much from a young age. World number 1 for 71 weeks including twice being the year end #1. 30 career titles. A slam (first Danish player to ever win one), 2 more runner ups, YEC title

Big congrats to Wozniacki, I wish her all the best.

For those saying she’s young, she’s retiring at the same age as Radwanska and Ivanovic.
Two players I miss seeing on tour a lot.

Even though she’s won a major and been world number one, I always felt Ana had the potential to achieve so much more if only she had a better mental game (her technical game was clearly there). It’s sad Aga never ended up winning a slam, she had a very unique play style and always had a ton of variety to her game, it’s a shame every time she put herself in position to win, she always ran into a hot hitter who could just blast her off the court.

1 of only 10 to have multiple YE #1.

Got a Slam.

Great career honestly.

I won’t lie, I wasn’t too fond of her game at first but I was very happy for her when she won her maiden slam in Melbourne ‘18 as when you look at her other stats and how many other close calls she had over the years, it was very clear that she was wayyyy too good of a player not to win one a major.

it’s funny how she wished her best to Andy Murray this year when he said he was gonna retire and now she’s gonna do it before him.

At least she won a major in convincing fashion, so she moved out of the club occupied by the Safinas and Jonkovics of the sport. She's retiring a bit early as fat as I'm concerned, but her plans are...her plans, At least she's leaving as a good player, and will not be forced out after aging out, or having skills so diminished that ball kids could beat her.
