ME: If we want to find out who is the GOAT in tennis, which factors would we examine, and who should be the GOAT based on statistics and data?

CGPT: Determining the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) in tennis involves considering various factors such as Grand Slam titles won, overall tournament victories, head-to-head records against other top players, consistency over time, dominance in their era, and impact on the sport. Based on statistics and data, players like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic are often considered strong contenders for the title of GOAT, each having their own strengths and records in different aspects of the game. Ultimately, the determination of the GOAT is subjective and can vary based on personal opinions and criteria prioritization.

ME: If you had to choose one, which one would it be?

CGPT: Choosing just one player as the GOAT in tennis is a tough call due to the incredible achievements of several players. However, based on statistical analysis and considering various factors, many experts and fans lean towards Novak Djokovic. Djokovic holds numerous records, including the most weeks ranked world No. 1, the most Grand Slam titles in the Open Era, and an impressive head-to-head record against other top players. His consistency, versatility, and dominance across different surfaces make a strong case for his GOAT status.

Even CGPT is coping, just quick and less painful, lol.

The ironic and interesting story here is that CGPT has been trained on much of the same debate discussions from the TW posts

Why are you asking a computer to tell you who is the greatest tennis player? For confirmation of your beliefs and opinions? If Djokovic is the GOAT, you don't need confirmation from a computer, you just need to believe it yourself (a human, i hope).

I agree with the conclusion, but LLMs will lie through the nose. Their main directive is to come up with a plausible sounding next token. Since our language is predictable (since we made it that way), this generally works. But what GPT does in these sorts of cases is it collects sentiment online, predicts likely answers and returns one at random.

It might say Federer 10% of the time, Djokovic 20% of the time, Nadal 15% of the time, and Laver 55%. We don't know based on just this one example.

That settles it then!
Sure. Why are you asking a computer to tell you who is the greatest tennis player? For confirmation of your beliefs and opinions? If Djokovic is the GOAT, you don't need confirmation from a computer, you just need to believe it yourself (a human, i hope).

If the opinions and beliefs of a computer, are how you confirm your beliefs as a human, what does this mean? Can you not see how ridiculous this is? (fantasy land nonsense) Are you a human? Or are you a computer? Do you want to be more like a human or a computer in a subjective discussion? Do you want to have self determined beliefs and opinions like humans so you can understand greatness?

You are asking a computer to think for you. This is something they are incapable of doing: independent subjective interpretation of context. chatGPT will give the same answer to everyone that asks a question lol. Is this really what you want? Don't be so ridiculous lol. Humans created chatGPT. chatGPT did not create us. Humans > chatGPT. Everyone logical knows this! We are the master! Not chatGPT! You do not ask something inferior what to think. Can you not see this? You do not believe humans are superior at independent subjective interpretation of context than you! (reality) You are also a human lol. You can't really believe this nonsense lol.

It is logical to want to think like a human, capable of independant interpretation of context. I don't ask a computer to do it for me! lol. I take pride in being able to think for myself. My beliefs and opinions are shaped by my experiences and values as an individual. I have pride in who I am as a person (not as a computer). You need to challenge your own bias to come back to reality. You need to stop always looking for an easy way out. In reality, we cannot pretend things are always the way we want them to be.

We need to know the context of the numbers to be able to compare them and determine our subjective interpretation of which is greater. For example: 1 major > 1 masters. 1 major > 1 major with a different context.

So chatGPT picked Joker as the GOAT huh? That’s not going to help shed the Bot Brigade label lolz.
Incapable of independent human thought. That implies they believe they are incapable of an individual human interpretation of context to give meaning to statistics. Do they live their daily lives making decisions like a computer? Or is it just nice to pretend they are a computer when it suits them? (fantasy land)

You cannot force other people to value achievements by an objective measure. Everyone can place their own value of greatness on certain achievements. The value of achievements is subjective. Statistics require context to be useful. In your fantasy world: I can just pretend I'm the greatest tennis player of all time, (which would be nice) but not the reality lol.

If they were joking (unsure), they are coming around ;)

I think we all gotta try to laugh at all this.

It’s just a game with a little fuzzy yellow ball.

the more important stuff that the game gives them a platform for - being good examples of loving their familes, being good to people, doing charity work to help the less fortunate…

All that happens off the court.

I had to fix a few errors and add a little bit more to this post. Happy with the result now since it was a draft I rushed out before.

There is a bigger picture here in this debate. I wanted to show what happens when people are totally consumed by bias, by using the meaning of greatness as an example. Important for a lot of discussions about our favourite tennis players.

If Nadal or Federer had the statistically superior numbers then NOBODY here would complain one bit.

Because it's "evil" Djokovic then people deny it.

There is a definitive best male player in the Open Era and it's Djokovic, doesn't mean I like him.

I know exactly what makes you mad here:
It's the fact that ChatGPT is basically a compendium of all subjective opinions on the topic, expressed online.
That's it. That's what hurts you the most.
CGPT looked over all the subjective opinions, subjective analysis and subjective sources, and based on all of them - compiled one single answer: Novak Djokovic is the GOAT.
It confirmed what you don't want to admit, rubbed the truth on your nose, and you really really don't like it.

You don't even know what the greatness is.

I asked Google gemini and it said Arthur Ashe is the GOAT
My brother (software developer) told me he was the GOAT human once. I wasn't fully certain, so I asked my brother's computer (like he suggested) who is the GOAT human? It told me it was my brother! I thought I would try a few more times, in case it changed its mind, but it gave me the same answer, every time!

When I got someone else to ask the computer instead of me, it still gave the same answer: My brother is the GOAT human! This was beyond our wildest fantasies! He was the consensus GOAT human! My sister didn't agree, so we pretended she didn't say anything. Geniuses! Our Mum applauded! (once we applied opposite definitions to words).

My brother decided he was no longer the GOAT human (GOAT entity in the universe was more tempting), but the computer had made its final decision. We just kept getting the same answer: My brother is the GOAT human! Unfortunately, we couldn't debate the computer, so my brother had to change the code to get a different answer (which worked immediately!).

We came back after watching Harry Potter, we changed our plan and decided we wanted to have magical powers instead. My brother changed the code. He told the computer to tell us I have magical powers. Once we finished reading the answer: I had magical powers! But then... I didn't! To our great disappointment, I could not fly on a broomstick... I couldn't turn super saiyan either... Nothing magical would work at all...

We weren't prepared to give up that easily, so we brainstormed together for a while. We decided to test it on my brother instead. We wanted to know if our trick only worked on him... It nearly worked... But... We were just being completely delusional... :( It was just telling us, what we wanted to believe! We couldn't believe it! Luckily we can still change the definition of words when it suits us. True story... Just like itrium84's wisdom in this thread... ;)

Apparently you're a little out of touch with the news and my joke went over your head. Classic Djokovic fan in other words.
