Cheap multis for experimenting?

Never used many multis and would like to see how comfy I could make an APD and still control it. I tend to be pretty picky and tinker so I don't want to keep cutting out $10 strings to find the right tension. Are there some decent soft multis (or very soft synthetics) that are inexpensive that I can experiment with?

I've tried RIP and MCS and didn't care for them. I just tried a full bed of Gosen Micro 17 at 57 (first time trying with no poly) and it was definitely more comfy than the poly hybrids but still felt it in my wrist. I also have some Forten Sweet, is that softer than Gosen?

In my opinion, yes - by quite a bit (forten white compared to gosen clear). Forten Sweet is very soft for a syngut, as far as I'm concerned. I string with both fairly frequently, 17g.

And what about power level compared to Gosen? I find Gosen to be nicely low powered. I'm trying to soften it up without losing control.

Decent multifilament strings can get a little high in price.
Pro Supex Maxim Touch is relatively inexpensive for a multifilament.
If you are a string breaker I would get the 16g. as the biggest complaint I had from customers was the durability of the 17g., otherwise go for the 17g.
Try a set 1st and if you like. The reel price is very inexpensive for a multifilament string.

It seems to become more of a rocket launcher quicker than the Gosen did, and I felt it was higher powered personally.

Take a shot at Wilson Red Alert. It's not super cheap but has good control, comfort and durability.
Not your average syngut!
Tension: mid-hi.

You do love that stuff, don't you? I think I may need to bed that to the list, just for fun.
And no one can accuse me of being paid by Wilson. LOL. 8)
Seriously, it's just good stuff. A syngut that bridges the gap if polys hurt and if multis wear too quickly and if Rip Control is too weird.

OP:
OGSM starts off with a somewhat crisp (for a syn gut) feel then quickly softens up and loses tension, a lot.
Forten Sweet is a softer string but holds its tension and characteristics longer than the OGSM, imo.
For me the OGSM ends up feeling softer, along with the tension loss.

I did not like Alpha 2000 because it felt too mushy but that could have been due to 18g. For 5$ multi price range i liked Technifibre e-Matrix

But if you are a string breaker you will be restringing frequently.

You can also try Pro's Por Gutex Ultra, I just got done testing that string and it was very comfortable. The softest string I have ever strung (so far). also had good feel, for the money it is definitely a great value string durability for me was about 4-6 hrs before it broke. But for people that have arm issues this is a must try IMO.

Good low-cost multi's:

1. TF Multifeel: good string, plays crips but durability not as good as premium multis.
2. Alpha Gut 2000: great inexpensive strings; get 16G as durability is poor on 17G
3. Dunlop Comfort Synthetic: $6 if you buy 12 sets; good soft multi

Dang, already ordered. TF Multi sounds good. I also really like DCS and didn't even realize it's a multi! I just thought, wow it's so much softer than other synthetics. Makes a great cross.
