If I set this up right, you should be able to pick any or all of the above.

What I am suggesting is that you make a selection of the players that you like and provide a brief statement as to why you like them. Lets bare our soles on this one. O.K.? Tells us how you really feel. Here is my list:

Safin: #1 way above anyone else. Why? I like his looks. He struts! You know what I mean? I also like his humor which is revealed in his interviews.

Djokovic: He is young and contraversial. So what? I like his humor. And not just his imitations. He smiles on the court. And I do like the game he playes.

Roddick: I like him as a person. Am not sure which girlfriend said it, but she said that he is competative in everything he does. Cards, table games or whatever. And, what she said was, that he always wins. I don't know, he just sounds like a good guy. Also, he has a booming serve on which he relies a lot. Reminds me of my game. Whenever I served, I never expected them to get it back. So, when they did, I was a little lost for a reply.

Del Potro: I just like the idea of a 19 year old coming out of nowhere and winning 4 tournaments in a row. They may not have been the highest level tournaments, but so what.

I do like Nadal and I don't particularly care for Federer. Just a kind of personal thing. No big deal.

Now could we hear your oppinion. If I did not include a particular player that you like, talk about him. But please tell us why you like the specific players that you do. Three or four would be just fine

Forgot to mention Baghdatis. I met him in Muenchen last year and he was just charming. Very friendly with me and my gf. and other people. Just mingled with the crowd. Very impressed with how confident he was about himself.

Love everyone on the list outside of Del Potro. And, I'm not sure whom this Murrey bloke is but I voted for him regardless.

"Just have more fans?"
That's not the question, the question is why does he have more fans.

O.K. Now I have read some of these posts. Actually, I have read lots and lots of posts on Federer. You were just a little bit short with me in your answer. "I wouldn't understand". I think I would, if you would verbalize a bit more. That is, make it easier for me, a slow fella, to understand the answer.

I guess I am curious why. Right now Del Potro is at the bottom of the list, even below Djokovic. And we know how much venom is used on Djokovic. Whats wrong with Del Potro?

#1 Federer: Why? Well, I think he's amazing to watch (and, yes, I've seen him in person): he floats, he flies, he is elegent and outright deadly. Plus, I think he has a wonderful energy. And he barely expends any energy out there, yet still can play a game no one else has ever seen ... and I do think he's one of the greatest players in tennis's history. Although I do feel that the game has evolved and that he needs to get stronger, more aggressive, and actually muscle the ball a little.

#2 Murray: I think he has a similar floating aspect that Federer has, and similar smarts out there on the court. But he has that muscle aspect that I feel is needed nowadays, and continues to get fitter and fitter. I think all the up-and-comers were effected by what many have been calling the Federer Effect: he was winning everything, so they had to get stronger, fitter, faster, and more powerful ... and it's finally working. I think Nadal was the forerunner of that, but Andy's taking it to a nice new level.

#3 Djokovic: Other than his bouts with injuries and supposed fitness issues, he has a very flexible body and seems quite strong ... and works the court with power and smarts as well, like Murray, mixing it up by having a strong two-handed backhand but can slip in a slice and drop-shot at will ... though Murray seems to be the best at that at the moment.

#4 Tsonga: I like him merely as proof that you can be big and strong and still move fast and light and get anywhere on the court. I'm sick of people saying that tennis players can't be strong and muscular. I understand them not looking like a bodybuilder, but being muscular and strong does help: look at Nadal, Murray, Djokovic and now Tsonga. Plus, I think he has some powerful strokes!

#5 Safin: He's good-looking, big, strong, and has some great power. Even though he's not dominant anymore, he has one of the best two-handed backhands of anyone.

#6 Del Potro: I like his heart, and I like that he plays hard (usually) and doesn't give up (albeit, that last game with Federer was pathetic on his end). Though, you can tell he has a lot to learn.

Just as an honorable mention: I don't like Nadal, never have, never will ... but he's amazing. I still think Federer is a better overall player, but Nadal has taken fitness and brute strength to a new level ... and he's mentally in a much better place than Federer and many others. But note: he's only been number one for a short time; that will start poking at him sooner or later and the pressure will balloon.... I also admire that he continues to alter his game ... which I think Fed needs to do. Fed's game is so complete, and so devastating, that I believe he's daunted by the fact that Nadal can beat him most of the time. If Fed can get into better shape (merely to help his confidence and to help him recover; he is getting older, and the lean muscle mass he gains can help him keep his strength longer), and change his game and put Nadal into an uncomfortable position, his mental toughness will grow, and he'll realize that he can beat Nadal just like he can beat almost anyone....

Any which way, they're both great players, and their rival makes the game more exciting. I'm just not sure Nadal's body will hold up...

Federer because his game is exciting and fun to watch with a lot of innovative shots...

Reason I don't like Nadal's GAME is because it is boring! He puts me to sleep by consistently hitting the same topspin shots over and over and over again...

I love Federer and Nadal and Jo W.
I also like Djokovic, Davydenko, Wawrinka, and a bunch of others.

Not fond of Roddick, and seen too little of Delpo.

Safin ? No racquet smashers, please.

Lovely post to read.

I only disagree with Roger's fitness. At the end of his 5 set matches with Nadal he didnt show any signs of slowing down or lack of power to hit harder. When you get 17 break points against anyone then there cant be much wrong with your game, just maybe couple of new ideas, a plan or slight change of strategy to convert more of those points. May be a little less conservative and doubtful and more aggressive at certain points.
At the end of the day though, it doesnt matter if he loses to a robot or not. He is the greatest in my book and is gonna stay as such.

my number one player: nalbandian ( just style of play)
second federer
third ferrer.
ferrer and nalbandian aren't in the poll so i vote federer

Oui c'est moi.

I like all of those except Delpo. Got nothing against him, i think he'll grow (i mean his tennis not height).

Now i don't LOVE all of those.

Hey, Fedster. Thanks for the comments. You know, my gf likes Federer for what she calls his graceful smooth strokes. I tend to agree with that. I am not an avid Federer fan only because I found him to be dull and to me tennis is entertainment. Thats why I watch the pros.

No Gasquet in this poll?

Anyway mine's Federer and Gasquet, both are players I can't get tired of watching. It's a shame beautiful tennis losses these days.

Interesting resuls so far.

Federer, not surprisingly, is leading, with Safin as a strong 2nd, and Nadal and Tsonga are sharing the 3rd place. It's still not the same without Gasquet though.

sure, but my preference is for nadal. I love to see him destroy fed. In fact, i like fed because i like to watch him lose againsts players i prefer like nadal, murray, djoker, simon
You mean you like to see Federer lose. That does not sound like the more normal use of the word like. And if he is your favorite punching bad, so be it. But that seems a bit masochistic

I sure agree with you on Nadal's game. Its a vicious shot which he has perfected and is particularly effective on clay but to see him continually running around his bh just does not impress me.

I am IMPRESSED by nadals game and testicular fortitude but i do not enjoy watching his game. No finesse, no beauty...

I see the similarity between Safin and Baghdatis, both are real charmers, but Tsonga? Don't get that.

Tsonga is absolutely irresistable with his game and cheerful on court persona. He's the only one who pushed his way among my favorites against my will, LOL. I normally pick them at the start of the career, 19-20, and stick with them. Haven't seen much of him before last year's AO so he didn't make that list early enough and it's pretty crowded already, but there's no denying him his rightful place among my very favorite guys.
Safin's been among them since forever, love the game, love the man.
Marcos I like watching play and he's a charismatic guy, but that's not quite the same category as the duo above, or Gasquet, Ancic, Haas, Gulbis, Cilic or Berdych for that matter (told you it is crowded ;)).

Needs Gasquet

basically anyone who has a rocking 1HBH

also, "he" needs to have a mention

Mauresmo is almost a man

and "he" has the sexiest 1hbh around, so "he" should be added

im a huge roddick fan..ppl forget how easy being a fed, nadal fan is.
I really like Roddick. He seems like such a real person; the type of guy you could share a pint with. But I don't particularly care for his game. Reminds me of mine. Big serve; lousy ground strokes. I never expected my opponent to return the serve so was never ready for the return. Oh, well. Not much similarity with Roddick, I know.
